@@MaaritHanninen Agreed! The relief inks look awesome. I'm thinking about getting some once I use up my basic print making inks. I love the tone of that gold. I was kind of disappointed when I tried out Blick's gold ink, it's SO dark
@@stopyrak06 I've never tried the Blick's gold ink, but I did use Schmincke gold ink once and wasn't happy with it at all. @@MaaritHanninen thanks! Yeah I checked your resources section a few times! Once I use up most of my blick inks (or get tired of them) I'm ready to graduate to the good stuff! I've seen a lot of people on ig using cranfield and they always make for great prints
I also love printing with gold ink, it always turns out differently on each type of paper I've printed on, with wonderful hues that go from cool to warm! I could watch lino cutting for hours!!
Yeah, the paper plays such a big role! I also find that printing by hand gives me better, less messy results than using a press. If you haven't already, check out my other printmaking videos on RUclips and Instagram!
You are the artist that actually got me interested in this art form so I was pretty stoked to see a new video. Love your work and will def watch again!

Will you ever do a video of the tools you use , I am just a beginner but I would love to get to know more about the tools and materials for printmaking
I'm not planning to make a video about my tools any time soon but thanks for the suggestion. I will think about it. I do have a list about my tools and materials on my website though: maarithanninen.com. Hope this helps!
I have just come across your page. What a wonderful artist you are! Brilliant informative videos, with mesmerising music and incredible artwork when finished. I love them all! Do you mind me asking which app you are using to draw with on your samsung tablet? Thank you xx
Ohhh I love this print technique Maarit! What a gifted 'dessinateur' you are! may I ask you why is the ink so fluid? Very lovely print ! Thank you much for sharing !
I really enjoyed your art creation procedure, it created a serenity inside of me that I always appreciate when I see fantastic artists at work. You are as beautiful as your art, congratulations! 😍✨💓🎨PS Somehow your fantastic gold and black design is so vibrating that I think it would look exceptional on black porcelain, hint, hint just saying! 😉👍🏻
Thanks! Hard to say. I often spend weeks or months sketching. The carving took probably a few days. It's been a while since I made it so I can't remember
Is very beautiful! My english is not good. But i need say i love your work. Positive vibes and energies from Argentina. Keep moving forward, you are amazing.
Love your videos. Beautiful work in both end images and the videos themselves. One question, I have seen it in several of your videos, what are you doing to sharpen or hone your cutting tools?
Your videos are mesmerizing..😌. I tried lino today because of this channel. My first time, and got confused with what areas to cut. How do you know what areas you want to cut?? Do you cut out only the areas you do not want in the piece? Also, your tools look lovely?
Thanks Tammy! The hardest part is definitely knowing what to cut because all the areas that you keep are going to be visible in the print and vice versa. If you have a sketch on your lino, think of cutting out the negative or "white" areas. It might take some time to get used to it, but once you do, it'll get so much easier.
Hi, you are inspiring me to experiment with lino again. I was just wondering, I noticed that in one of your videos you put your paper in a bath of water then blotted it in between newspaper. But in other videos you use dry paper. Why was that? Thanks for uploading I really am enjoying your videos. :)
Hello there Maarit.......... Please tell - did you use a permanent marker pen on the block as you proceeded with the carving? I am thinking that perhaps, that is the case because you seemed to then use 'methylated spirits' (purple coloured liquid) to remove it from the block after finishing the carving. These points particularly interest me as I have a friend who is starting out with lino cutting and I want to be able to help her......the gold ink really does look excellent on the Black Lotko paper.
Thanks Aine! The gold and black are my favorite combo 😊 I used permanent marker, and used rubbing alcohol for cleaning. It actually clear liquid but looks purple when it comes to contact with the ink from the block.
I know this might be a little late but maybe I can still help out your friend as I use a simmilar technique when lino-cutting for the mere purpose of being able to have a way of checking out how the print might look. That way you'd be able to make changes before printing if needed. Sometimes you just need more contrast to work precise. Especially on the grey Plates
Hi, this is a beautiful print :) would you mind telling me how it is you get your design on to the lino? Is this design printed on to some sort of transfer paper and then transferred on to the lino below using a pen...I can't figure it out from your video and I would really like to try- as I find pencil impossible to see on lino. thank you!
@@MaaritHanninen Thank you. I was not sure because the color of the linoleum become bluish after a while. Mine is more like grey. Or is just some display settings. Anyway, I really love your channel.
This is the motivation i needed to pick up my lino tools again
