    One warning, the horseshoe that holds the front tire must be nestled in tight to the fork and front tire in order to be fully functional. If you let it sit on top of the tire, with a gap to the fork, it will wiggle backward and be loose very soon after you start driving.
    Have had the original NV for many years. Easily the best on the market. And a great review. Nice to see all the new features of the 2.0.

    Clint,
    I can't thank you enough for your videos.
    61 years old, picked up a used 2001 Stumpjumper FSR XC from friend at San Falasco early this year and started riding at Markham Woods in Sanford.Feel in love with the whole concept of riding in the woods. Wasn't long before night rides were added and many trips to the woods. The 29er's were killing me so after watching many videos and bugging my LBS to death I decided on a 29" Kona Hei Hei. No big jumps for me at 61 and I moved up a speed and technical group in night rides. Since most of my riding will be done in Florida where it is mostly flat....except for the ROOTS, after watching your videos on trail vs XC it was easy for me to make a decision.
    Your no nonsense approach and expert explaining of all aspects of biking has helped me tremendously!!!
    Just wanted to say "Thank You" for all your efforts and time.
    It is greatly appreciated!!
    Ed

      Compare it with the Kuat Transfer model. They come in 1, 2, or three place models. I have the three place model and it is $250 cheaper than the two place one in this video. You can buy a couple bike stands for that price.

    I have had the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 for 3 years now, it is holding up great. No signs of corrosion, the finish looks excellent. I would like to add 2 things. 1. The box it comes in is designed to be used to hold things in place for assembly. 2. The NV 2.0 comes in 2 colors Metallic grey and Black, I have the metallic grey and it matches my Toyota perfectly.

    Great video. I have the NV 2.0 with add on and love it. I had the original also and gave it to my sister as a Christmas gift when I upgraded. I also have the Kuat transfer and the roof cargo rack. All their products are high quality. I also picked up the tripod that holds the bike clamp which turns it into a stand alone work stand.

    Hey Clint, I bought my NV2 over 3 years ago from my LBS. I can't tell you how satisfied I have been with this rack. I believe this rack made its competitors up their game! Like you said, very solid rack. I took 4 of my bicycles from Florida to Colorado & Minnesota last summer. Other than handlebars & seats needing a little rearranging not one problem!

      @@ClintGibbs Thank you for your awesome review! This question is for both of you since you both use the 4-bike setup. When you have four bikes on there and you need to lower the rack to the lowest position in order to access the rear of the vehicle, how difficult/annoying is it to reach the lever to lower the rack? I'm deciding between this rack and the Thule T2 Pro XT, which has the release handle at the very end (on both the 2-bike and 4-bike setup), which seems to clearly be the easiest setup. I can't imagine it's easy to reach under 3 bikes to get to the lever on this Kuat rack... or is it not as difficult as it seems in my head?

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  4 года назад +1

      regalpower To be honest, it’s not something I really do. I know that reaching the lever with no bikes on is easier than I thought it would be but I don’t really do it with bikes on it.

    Great review! The bike stand is cool, but haven’t needed that yet. I’ve seen racks rust and plastic parts become brittle over time. This was the main reason I bought the 1up. All aluminum, super east to load and unload. I can haul my 20” bmx class bike and 24” cruiser easily and my MTBs. Only have to move the adjustment for the 20”. No additional parts needed and no other configure adjustments. The 1up is another great “no touch” option.
    Keep up the great content and I look forward to your videos.

    Clint, another great review of a very good product. I considered the KUAT, however decided after using both (friends racks) on the 1-up for ease of use and just as secure. The 1-up rack I have will accommodate 3.25” tires and self centers tires/wheels 700c to 29er with no adjustment other than to close the wheel traps on both wheels adjusting left to right as needed (takes 5-10 seconds to lift and secure a bike). It will also hold a recumbent bike, articulate to provide access to the rear hatch, and is very light. I set it up for a single bike but can quickly and easily convert it to a 2 bike setup (2 bike with a 2bike add on for 4 is also available). Made in the USA!

    On a side note: for video topics/ideas. How about a “power meter video for dummies “? I have a power meter, but not sure how to get the most out of it. Not too many videos on it.

    Kuat really makes a great looking rack! Thanks for showing all the features. There’s a few deal breakers that keep me from buying one unfortunately. I can’t fit the lock on the locking hitch pin on my vehicle due to the location of the trailer plugin and having the lever to raise and lower the rack in that location just doesn’t work for my wife. Our T2 classic has both of these issues and that’s a big part of why I am looking to upgrade.

    This is one of the many good racks out there. The most sturdy, no BS rack out there though is the Oneup rack. Literally nothing touches your frame, nor rim. Its all tire. No rubber straps even touching the rim. I did all the shopping between Kuat, Thule, then came across Oneup back when I was doing the hardcore research about a year ago. Its all aluminum, very well machined, and it will last forever. Check them out before you decide on Kuat or Thule.

    Yoooo, back again!!! lol this will be a long one lmao
    I know you're not a gravel/road rider, but if you had to choose, what is one bike that can do it all?
    50-70% road & 30-50% gravel and/or mtb paths.
    I used to have a cannondale synapse carbon and it was amazing, just a bit too "springy" for me. Although I do want something that can snap into action, I like stability and not fearing for my life going down a hill 😂
    I'm considering a new purchase, and there are a few I'm looking at and a few feature's I'd like:
    - Aluminum frame (Unless carbon won't crack on me from a spill lol)
    - Thru axles
    - Clearance for 38/40c tires(I think that's plenty, right?) What would even be the 29er equivalent for a gravel bike? like...29ers to c tires...?
    - Complete shimano tiagra/105 groupset preferably
    - I really like the Giant D-fuse seatpost from what I see.
    - Hydraulic disc brakes - unless you'd like to convince me I'd be better with mechanical.
    - More of a relaxed geometry.
    Options:
    ***I think the shops near me try to always put a matching shimano crankset on their bikes, so I tried to look past that in these specs.
    - Giant Contend Ar 1 2020
    - Giant Contend Ar 2 2020
    - Giant Contend SL 2 disc 2020 (if it can fit bigger tires)
    - Giant Toughroad SLR GX 1 2019 model (no thru axles, but how much of a difference does it make? idk)
    - Giant Revolt Advanced 2 2019
    - Giant Revolt Advanced 2 2020 (highest cost I want to pay)
    - Giant Revolt Advanced 3 2020
    - Trek Checkpoint AL4 2019
    - Trek Checkpoint ALR4 2019
    - Trek Checkpoint ALR5 2020
    Thank you in advance!!!

  • @kayakutah
    @kayakutah 4 года назад

    The adjustment knob sits about 18" (I think) back from the center of the hitch pin hole and has no guard. On the Thule XT Pro, it's closer to 12" and has a robust gurad against ground strikes. This affects the car's departure angle which is absolutely an issue in Utah especially on some of the roads in southern Utah like around Moab and St. George. That seems to be the limiting factor on a 2 bike rack, as the rack is higher.

The rear wheel strap can't reach the clip.. if it is just 1in longer it would :(. I went with the three place Kuat Transfer model instead. It is a really nice rack. I like it that the bikes do not sit level. They sit slightly tail low so that with multiple bikes on, the bars clear the seat of the next bike. Compared to the One-Up rack, I like Kuat better. The One-Up design has the bikes sitting level and are more prone to bar to seat interference. I elected not to go with this exact Kuat model in the video because for the price difference, it ended up being a really expensive bike stand option. Totally not needed for the cost compared to the three place Transfer model. The rack lives on the back of my car virtually permanently and it works great. Basically the one in the video is $250 more and it only holds 2 bikes but you get a bike stand. My biggest complaint is the rear wheel straps. They fit up to a MTB wheel. To fit a fat bike you need to buy a $20 strap extender. Come on Kuat, just make the strap a few inches longer and be done with it. It is like $.02 worth of extra plastic to fit all tire sizes without having to use an expensive add-on.

    • @rackattackDOTcom
      @rackattackDOTcom 5 лет назад

      Totally agree with other Kuat alternatives - this one is really their high-end option. And it would indeed be great if they included the strap that fits all sizes - we actually already passed that feedback along to our very good friends at Kuat. PS: Let me know if you still need the strap and I can check if we have any open box lying around.

    • @1975lap
      @1975lap 5 лет назад +1

      @@JulianoGSF from my experience first hand loading friends one up racks there are two level and parallel trays that contribute to seat/bar interference. Maybe it depends on what model you have. I don't like the two bars of the 1up because of rear fender issues. The hold down arm over the rear wheel won't work right with a fender. Also the 1up won't fit fat bikes unless you buy their arm spacer. Kuat needs that strap extender though as I said, but that is really easy. I bet they will just make longer straps in the future as many people complain about this.

    • @kayakutah
      @kayakutah 4 года назад

      Just to add in, since I'm looking at racks for a new Subaru....The limiting factor for ebikes may be maximum "tongue weight". A 100 pound rack + 4 (60 pound ) ebikes is 340 pounds. On my 2018 Outback, the max tongue weight is 270 pounds, so that's a NO. On my new Outback, the max tongue weight is 380 pounds - a YES. So it depends on your vehicle limitation as well as the rack limit.

    1. My ebike is 50lbs, can I safely put it on my 4 cradle rack with three 35lbs bikes? Total weight does’t exceed 160lbs, but not all bikes are 40 lbs.
    2. My ebike has a front fender, do I put the horseshoe support close to the fork (over the fender), or should the horseshoe support grip the tire treads directly at the far end of the fender?
    Thanks everyone!

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  3 года назад

      Yes, you can put the e-bike on first and then three other bikes. You can put up to 60 lb each on the first two trays.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  3 года назад +1

      Also, you really need to have the arm no more than an inch or 2 from the fork. It's in other words it should not extend beyond the top of the tire. If your fender is short, you could put it on the tire. Otherwise you need to put it on the fender itself.

      Kuat provides 2 Allen wrenches (6 and 8mm) to help with the bolts/nuts. After removing the endcap, there are 2 long bolts that run the length of the Center support beam. There's also a spacer collar that helps align the 2 sections. Definitely easier to show than explain.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  3 года назад

      No, you can leave it about half an inch to an inch from the fork if you push down really hard. There's still a chance that it may move but I generally don't have it touch the fork. But keep in mind I'm using a gravel bike or a mountain bike so there are some knobs to hold it in place.

      It can work but it depends on the exact setup and measurement. Measure from the center of the hole in the hitch to the end of the tire. You can hold a stick against the tire so there's a point that lines up horizontally with the pinhole.

    HI, question: Can you use the two-rack and basically leave it on your vehicle, and just add the two-bike attachment on and off from the rack while it's installed on the vehicle? Reason being, sometimes we will go with only 2 bikes, and sometimes with 3 or 4. Would like to not have to put on and take off the entire 4-bike rack, but rather put it on in phases. Does that make sense? Thanks.

    My focus is the weight that my hitch and rack can hold. I have a 2009 Subaru Impreza hatchback, with an aftermarket hitch with the small 1 1/4” receiver. I have a Thule 3 bike rack and I carry three road bikes. I plan to buy an e bike and I’m told I will need a new rack. @ClintGibbs  5 лет назад

      That's a good question and I'm not really sure of the answer. My Honda Accord has a 1.25-in receiver and I don't think I would want to put more than about 60 lb worth of bikes on it. I think one ebike close to the car would be okay. I wouldn't put anything else on it. That's my opinion but I would ask someone who installs hitches.

    • @rackattackDOTcom
      @rackattackDOTcom 5 лет назад

      Hey Mark! The 1.25 inch NV 2.0 can accommodate 2 bikes of up to 60 lbs but that pushes the limit of the trailer hitch. Our in-house recommendation is not to exceed the total weight of 100 lbs on a class 1 hitch assuming the tongue weight is 200 lbs (check with your hitch manufacturer). What is the exact model of the rack you currently have?

      Dr Tray is lighter and therefore easier to manage when off the vehicle. If you have a 1.25 receiver you can also do a third bike add-on for the Dr Tray. Kuat is just going to need more solid. I also like the way the Dr tray allows you to position the bikes with more space between them.

    I bought a Kuat 2-bike rack a few years ago for about $500 at a local bike shop. Although it still works pretty well, after a few years of gentle use, the whole thing rattles, shakes and wobbles to a really unreasonable degree. I really don't trust that it will securely hold bikes for anything other than a very short trip. I have some short videos that demonstrate how "rickety" it is now with gentle shaking by hand:
