Back in the 70’s when I was a kid Jerry Reed was everywhere and we loved him! Smokey and the Bandit was an awesome movie. We all had CB’s in the 70’s and 80’s with our own handles, those were so much fun back then, talking to each other and truckers on our CB’s. They were great fun and good for accident information or to call for help if you needed it. Gosh I wish we could go back to those times. Satellites and government control all our communication anymore, they could shut down our communication anytime they want to now a days but back then they couldn’t shut down CB’s, Ham Radio Operators or even telephone lines. There was freedom back then that we’ve slowly had taken away. Every one today sees something new come out and they gotta have it, not thinking of what the consequences are of having that item and how much more you’re letting the government listen in or control you or see where you’re at all the time. You can track phones nowadays, there’s chips in your cars so they can see where you are and they can even shut your car off if they want too. We are just getting used to less and less freedoms and most of the population doesn’t even see it’s happening. Those of us who are 50 and older we had freedom, we know what freedom felt like. It was the good life, not like what we have now. These type of songs take me back to the good life for a little while. Thanks for taking me for a stroll down memory lane. ❤
Sales of Trans Ams went through the roof after the movie came out. Jerry Reed started as a singer, song writer, guitar slinger. Became an actor after a successful music career
Most people know Jerry Reed from his music and film appearances, but most don't realize that Jerry was an amazing guitarist. People inside the industry knew, though. He came up with playing styles that were new and inspired a lot of aspiring pickers. He was great. Thanks for doing this one for us. :)
Jerry Reed is a great guitar picker. She Got the Goldmine, I Got the Shaft is one of my favorite songs by him. And, of course, his music from the Smokey and the Bandit films is part of the soundtrack of my life. If you enjoyed him with Burt Reynolds in that film, you'd probably like the movie Gator, as well.
Yep. That’s the song. Jerry Reed not only sang the theme song, but he played the part of Cledus, the truck driver. It’s one of my favorite movies and he was hilarious. He definitely was multitalented. He was a very talented guitarist.
Actually Jerry wrote multiple songs for Smokey and The Bandit The Legend which played during the intro Eastbound and Down Westbound and Down The Bandit
If you do any other Jerry you gotta do Amos Moses studio version. The funkiest country record ever made (in 1970 at that). Top level guitarist and song writer, worked with Elvis among others.
Hal Needham (director of Smokey and the Bandit) told Jerry he needed a theme song for the movie. The next morning Jerry played this song for him. Hal said don't change a note!! The theme song for the movie was written in one night by Jerry Reed and a classic film & sound track were forever linked. Every time I hear this song I think about Jerry driving the semi over the motorcycles after losing the fight in the the diner. A classic karma event!! Thanks for the reaction!!
Jerry was awesome, doing the Smokie and Bandit, and a few others, hes so funny, loved him and Fred the dog in the movie, great country music, great story teller...Thanks, Peace
He was a singer, master guitar player(Nashville session player), prolific song writer(100’s of songs for himself and people like Elvis and Tom Jones to name a couple), multi Grammy winner, was in many movies and tv shows. Wrote the theme song, sang it and played guitar for the Smokey and the Bandit movie and of course starred in it! He did it all!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone liked Burt Reynolds in Smokey and the Bandit; I always had the hots for Jerry Reed 😊 This is one of those songs that you can't help but sing it when you hear it!!!
@@abracadabra3033 True Story; in the 80's my Uncle (the fun one, you know, every family has one) was arrested....again....he was involved with Burt Reynold's dinner theater in Florida, and Burt Reynolds showed up in court as a character witness for my Uncle. My Uncle was guilty as hell though HAHAHA!! He was also in the Burt Reynolds movie "STICK". 😊
This was great to see! As a semi driver, this track is fun to play when you need a bit of a pick me up lol. It was equally fun getting to enjoy this classic with everyone on here!
Guitar player, songwriter, singer, Jerry Reed was great. After he passed away, a few years later was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Check out his song Amos Moses
Smokey and the Bandit. That's some OG s..t! We gotta do be same age. 50. If I recall, Jerry had a large acting role in that flick. I do remember Jerry suffered from stuttering except when he sang.
My auntie from my dads side knee Burnt Reynolds and Jerry Reed. During the film Smokey and the Bandit 1-3 was made in GA Clayton and Henry County. In Smokey and the Bandit 2 was partly made in Maimi of course. My auntie actually had family in Henry County so she had a house in Eagles Landing. She was rich too she had her own insurance company I think that’s what it was. Anyway Jerry and Burnt Reynold would spend the night at my aunties when filming. My grandparents actually have a picture of Burnt Reynold and Jerry Reed drinking tea I think on the back porch. That was like 30 years ago … before the filming Burnt met my aunties husband and needed a flight to NY. My aunties husband flew him there and back. The cool thing about Jerry Reed is that I was a fan of him before I ever knew my grandparents and auntie knew him. It’s amazing! My favorite song from Jerry Reed is Georgia Sunshine. I wish I could have met Burnt before he died, same for Jerry. They did around 10 years and 3 days apart I think.
1 of a kind, movie, song and artist. I watched a video where he promised to write the theme song for the movie and then realized on the last night that he didn’t do it. He stayed up all night writhing “Eastbound and Down.” When he let the director hear it, he never really made any reactions. When Jerry Reed told him he’d change it if he didn’t like it, the director told him he better not change a thing about it.
Smokey and the bandit got me into trucks when I was little, now I'm a heavy truck technician, love old school rigs. That 73 W900A is as much a star as Jerry
1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The one Burt Reynolds ( rip) owned sold for around $250.000 My favorite scene in the movie was Sallie Fields flipping off the cops.
