I live in Mobile Alabama...I remember the club Jerry's singing about..."Big Jack's"...it was on the causeway going across Mobile Bay back in the late 60s & early 70s. Elvis & Jerry Reed loved coming to Mobile for concerts...Elvis loved staying on Mobile Bay when he came here on tour. Much love from Mobile Alabama.
Hello Mark. I'm glad I found your reaction page and being reintroduced to Jerry Reed. I grew up in an era when country music bgan to merge often wit pop mainstream. Guitars are and were a valuable part of many genres. My mother played guitar and she and my grandmother intrroduced me to old style classic country music in the 50's. I learn a lot from your expetise ans dedication. Thank you! Mark, would Duane Eddy be a musician you would be willing to react to?

You seem like you want to learn...Jerry Reed learn his style of picking from Mountain people. Folk,Blues,Rag,country,Funk . He probably learned this i when he was in foster care ... Look up a Amazing Woman on you tube call Etta Baker and David Holt Piedmont blues. Etta Baker is wonderful, she has been playing guitar sense she was 3 years old. some times you have to go back to the roots of a instrument . Enjoy!
Elvis Presley covered this song, he was dissatisfied with the studio guitarists, they couldn't match Jerry's sound. When Elvis mentioned it to Jerry, he told him, that it was because they used picks. Jerry ended up in the studio, playing guitar for Elvis's cover.

Jerry Reed was good friends with Chet Atkins, just watching them play is amazing
