- I make my way to Cannock Chase, an area of natural beauty positioned slap bang in the midlands. It wasn't long after I'd arrived that I got to photograph one of my all time favourite birds again along with several other fascinating species.
What species you ask? Well you'll just have to watch and find out.

A relaxing video to watch - the birds you spotted were super. And I for one definitely approve of the backing music! Lovely to listen to.
Got to love some chilled acoustic 🎶
Nice place and lovely little birds. Thank you for sharing! I like the photos as well. 😀👍
Thank you for your comment! 😀 It's a great location, you could easily spend hours wandering around enjoying the different habitats
Another Great video Damian.
Thank you Dave!
If you love stonechats and don't mind a bit of a drive, then head to the sand dunes between Point of Ayr and Gronant in North Wales. You'll be able to get very close and you'll have smooth golden backgrounds without all the branches and twigs. You'll also find an abundance of meadow pipits and skylarks, as well as the colony of little terns.
That sounds like an incredible location! Coincidentally my next video releasing tomorrow was filmed in North Wales. Cheers for the recommendation!
Stonechat are one of my fave little birds too... New subscriber 👌
Cheers for subscribing! Can't go wrong with a Stonechat :)
Hi Damien, great video I loved the images you got there!! Whereabouts on Cannock Chase were you there?
Thank you!!
I was in the fields in between Kingsley Wood Road and the quarry. 🌳
Really cool! I loved the video:)
Cheers! Glad you liked it
What lens did you use before the 200-800? I was wondering how it compares to the sigma o150 to 600.
The 200-800mm is actually the first telephoto I've owned for Canon.
Before this I was a Nikon shooter with the Z9 and the 180-600mm, had to get rid of the Z9 as the banding at concerts is atrocious (I'm primarily a music shooter)
Thank you - enjoy this to the earth video where you show real life birder and not a polished version. My favourite is Dipper.
Thank you so much for your comment! You absolutely get it, with my channel I want to show the 'everyday experience' when going out birdwatching and fantastic choice with the Dipper, such beautiful little creatures.
Thanks Damian, my favourite birds are: robin, great tit, wren, buzzard, all owls...and all the others 😅🥰🪶
It's a tough choice, right 😂
What do you think of the 200-800?
For the most part I like it: weight, stabilisation, image and build quality. There are some things which really annoy me though, like the autofocus can be a bit lackluster at times and I wish the foot was Arca.
@@damianjohnwildlife Its really time Canon gave you the option of either purchasing an arca foot lens (or collar) or the standard one.
@@smurgy99 completely agree. I wish I could remove the collar on the 200-800 and use a third party one with an arca cut but unfortunately not.
That seems to be a recurring complaint. I havent bought one yet. Was waiting to see what people think, but it seems people are pretty positive so I probably will now.@@damianjohnwildlife
Love your videos. Hard to pick a favourite bird, but probably carrion crows (because I have a regular crow who visits my bird table)
Thank you! That's a great choice, they have awesome little personalities 🐦⬛
Music is very distracting. Prefer you lost the music and just had natural sounds. Also would be good to see the raw image and then the final edit.
Cheers for the feedback, this is how I enjoy doing things but I understand that isn't for everyone. Hopefully you can find another channel that better suits your needs
The only thing more embarassing would be if he'd come past as you were taking a rooney behind a tree!👍
Very true mate 🤣
