The talent, humor, timing, intelligence, of both are huge and really came out. You know, Bill, there are times that you have people on your show who I intensely dislike. Often times, the long form interview simply confirms for me that I am correct in my assessment of them. On the other hand, there are times like this, when you have people on your show who I was already pretty sure were amazing. Then I watch them over an hour or two, over a variety topics & I learn that I love them even more. Thanks. I can't tell you how much I love Henry Winkler.
Nicely done, Henry Winkler. As someone who typically has been a big Bill Maher fan, his pathetically simple-minded approval of the Israeli government suggests he formed an opinion on October 8, 2023 and has had his head up his ass regarding new information and new developments since then. I applaud Henry Winkler for pushing back on Maher on this issue and wish he had pushed even a little harder.
Henry Winkler: “I have a great Joni Mitchell story.” Bill: *Couldn’t care less, completely and utterly ignores Henry and just keeps talking about his thing 🤣😂🤣
But ya know what, I will respond. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, it's not committing genocide, it's not an apartheid state. It has equal rights for all citizens of Israel. Every Arab country is an Islamic state, without the same religious freedom. Israel would like nothing more than to live in peace, but they're being attacked constantly by a neighbor that would love to see their complete destruction. Hamas puts its own people in harms' way, they don't care about them---they're merely martyrs for the cause. Which is the annihilation of the Jewish state. They subjugate women and kill homosexuals. You didn't deserve an actual response, since you're a troll and fool, but nonetheless, there it is.
About 40 yrs. ago a friend and I were in N.Y. As we were walking past the Plaza Hotel, I saw him coming towards us. It was the winter and he was wearing a full length fur coat and a cowboy hat with a big feather on the front of it He was walking arm in arm with his wife. I remember her beautiful long red hair and her very long legs. With the cowboy hat on it made him almost as tall as she is. I turned to my friend, who is a bit deaf, and was missing out on seeing them, so to get her attention I screamed "THAT'S HENRY WINKLER!!!" And then I ran... I ran up the street as fast as I could because I was so mortified... "Nance" she laughed... I was in tears from laughing at myself... "Did you see him?" I asked... She said "Yeah, I saw him when he turned around to see who the maniac was who was screaming his name..." I later told her I had seen him once on TV and he said that it bothered him when people would scream "FONZIE!" instead of my real name. My name is Henry" he said... So see, I got that part right...😂
Bill tells Henry he didn't read his book as he can't during the Real Time season. Shortly after, Bill tells Henry he just finished Barbra Streisand's and Woody Allen's books. It made me forget his greeting where he mocked Henry's clothes. Haha!

I taught Henry Winkler how to play craps at The Mirage casino not too long after it opened in the early 90s. Had one of the greatest dice runs ever. Started out with an empty table, just him and me, and 45 minutes later the crowd was 3 deep, jumping and screaming, everyone making money like crazy. I wear jeans, a t shirt, and a leather jacket, and ride a motorcycle to this day probably because of The Fonz. Watched Happy Days regularly with my dad as a kid. I used to work at Paramount for ten years from 97 to 2006, and saw Henry walking around the lot a few times, but never had the courage to walk up to him and remind him of our time at the craps table. My job was preparing back end profit participation statements and cutting checks for celebrities. Happy Days and Cheers were both my responsibility, along with Quantum Leap, on which Henry was an Executive Producer. I moved to Oregon 8 years ago, never having been here. I discovered my neighbor is lifelong friends with Henry, going back to their theater acting days in NYC 40-50 years ago. Henry wrote the forward to her autobiographical book a couple years ago. Hippie Woman Wild by Carol Schlanger.
As a young man with dyslexia I felt like a freak and having the Fonz come out and expose his own dyslexia did so much for my ego and helped me stand up against the internal shame I had. Henry you were my hero back then and still are, despite being 57 now. Hero! Pure and simple. God love ya man.
Bill brushed off his children's books and didn't even ask about them, "just a few words on a page" What a moron, he didn't do "hop on pop" and they helped many children with and understanding dyslexia and feeling stupid. Maybe he should read them when he's "less busy".

I enjoyed this interview immensely. Henry is an exemplary human. His wit is razor sharp but almost entirely understated. To see two people volley back and forth so effortlessly is magical. Pure joy surrounds this man.
This show is AWESOME! The fact that these two can have such deep disagreements, be themselves as they disagree, but be cool with each other while doing it, is so fantastic to me. I thin this is what America needs.
They are actually a pretty hilarious duo together. You can imagine the two of them actually just setting together not on a podcast or being recorded and their conversation not being much different than this.
I absolutely Love Henry Winkler and have read his wonderful book. He was my first celebrity crush in the 70s and I not only had the pleasure of seeing him perform with John Ritter on Broadway, (he discusses here,) but afterward he came out and after I had a photo w John,… all of a sudden he sidled up next to me and put his arm around me and I froze. All I could think of was “Fonzie has his arm around me…” lol. That photo is a prized possession (taken on a disposable camera.. #2000.) Love you so much Henry. Thank you.
Henry Winkler... You sir, are the one guy that Elvis Presley thought was cooler than him and James Dean put together. That's a true story direct from the mouth of Charlie Hodge, who lived at Graceland for 17 years and watched him every week with Elvis until his death in '77. Like Elvis, Henry is a true global icon, and a true treasure to humanity... On a personal note I'd like to share that he's been a hero of mine since I was a kid, and I had the pleasure of getting to talk with him on a zoom call not long ago and he was so kind, polite, and we talked about our mutual friend Cindy Williams who was like my 2nd Mother (God rest her sweet soul). My heart was melting listening to this sweet gentle soul who played the toughest and coolest cultural phenomenon on television talk about his grandchildren, his family, and the joy he gets out of writing his books for kids with me.. His humility is unmeasurable and I thank God for this incredible man that took time to talk with me and treated me like I was the only person in the world that mattered... You blessed my life Henry, and I believe Bill was touched through this interview as well. Until we meet again, and I pray that we do because the only thing missing for me from my time with you was a great hug like you gave Bill at the end of your time with him.
Henry is a saint with critical thinking and humility and Bill is an opportunist who may have been a big thinker back in the day but now only supports what he thinks is lucritive first, popular second, but never right.
Bill and Henry are so different, as Bill stated. He's shallow; Winkler is deep thinking and very wise! Bill has a lot to learn from Henry's wisdom and gratitude!🎉😊❤
Truly, what a gem of a man! I had the privilege of meeting Henry about a year ago, and he is just as lovely, kind, and humble as I had hoped he would be. He is a true gentleman and a Hollywood legend. Happy to see him wearing his green in this episode!
I really felt like Bill did not give Henry the deference he deserved/deserves. I know it's a casual conversation, but there were so many times I felt like Bill was disrespectful and even too confrontational for no reason with Henry. It sounded some of the time like Bill was arguing with someone he truly disliked. I think he does like and respect Henry, but Bill was not at all at his best. I don't know what was up his ass during this episode, but it was a shame that Henry Winkler happened to be the guest at the time.
Did he get rejected by someone or have a fight I was thinking. He walked in almost like he wasn't done with something. I guess every show he isn't going to feel "I want to do this".
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Henry and Stacey Winkler in 2017. Getting to meet them together was so amazing. They are such an adorable couple. Henry is an icon and was watched by more people on Tuesday nights than those who watch the superbowl now. His fame was insane from 75-79 in particular. Seems like a fantastic human and a mensch.
I loved this episode with Henry Winkler. I've always known that Mr. Winkler was much different in real life to that of his character, the "Fonz" on the tv series, Happy Days, but hearing him talk made me realize how much we both have in common both in our love of family and friends, as well as for a love of going to the theatre and to hear a symphony orchestra...there's nothing better than that in life. I've never noticed before how set in his ways Bill Maher has become, and it makes me wonder if he has aways been that way or if it has evolved with age. I recently became interested in opera, something I never thought I would like. I took an opportunity to see a free performance of Opera Philadelphia performing Puccini's "La Boheme" in Independence Mall Park many years ago and was hooked instantly. I never would have discovered my appreciation for opera if I hadn't taken a chance to see it that night for free under the stars. It makes me wonder what opportunities Bill Maher has passed on by being so stuck in his ways. I hope, someday, somebody like Henry Winkler can coax him out of his comfort zone. After all, variety is the spice of life!

90 percent of americans are? Im glad you are in the 10 percent
@@yebopa2692no. Not so. I hate how Bill says 15...fifdeen
Yes. Only he is right. Self righteous.

@@HeatherR-u2o almost a god, with self-humiliation kink.
My niece met him in LA and she told me that Henry Winkler was the NICEST man she had ever met in the "business." Really a normal guy. I was so glad to hear that bcuz there ain't many!!!!!!!!!
This is the most entertaining thing I've seen in the longest time. I was worried at the beginning: Bill was dominating, Henry was polite. Finally Henry was like, OK, you want to do this, let's do this. I love to see Henry Winkler in interviews. I just finished "Being Henry" on Audible - wonderful. But, this is the first time I've seen him channel the Fonz in decades. I think Henry Winkler exemplifies kindness. Henry also demonstrates that kindness is definitely not weakness. Kind and indomitable is a powerful combination. Kudos to Bill for engaging him that way. The depth of talent in both guys was on display. The talent, humor, timing, intelligence, of both are huge and really came out. BTW, love Maya Rudolph, she has a beautiful name, maybe not the easiest to come up with if, God forbid, it happens to slip your mind.
Henry Winkler is a NATIONAL TREASURE ❤❤❤
Canada I take it so
International.
I'm editing my above comment to say GLOBAL TREASURE ❤️❤️❤️
@Nevernowaynope he's clearly Welsh boyo!
this tired ass overused moniker again. I'm surprised you didn't add he must be protected at all cost too. try saying something original next time. fuck this national treasure overused horse shit
He lives near me and gave us a $20 during a lemonade sale to help kids with cancer. Great guy.
I really like Henry Winkler's personality. Such a nice person.
Henry is an absolute lovely person. As the conversation was turning argumentative, Henry pivoted at 49:45, spoke to Bill's ego and brought it back. Bravo sir, you are a scholar and a gentleman.
Henry Winkler, "I will not interrupt you." He has got Bill's number.
He sure does. 😂

Hey, The Fonz is really a cool cat and down to earth. Learn from this man, Bill Maher.
Everyone talks about Fonz, but his role as Adam Sandler's dad in Click always gets me choked up lol
He’s my favorite character in that movie.
I just could not get myself to like that movie, no matter how many times i tried to watch it.. i think it may have hit a nerve and it made me so so sad inside.
@@sassykow The fact that it could elicit those kinds of feeling in you means it is a well done movie. You can like it for that.
I loved his role in that movie! Though, it was his Fonzie character in the Happy Days show that made me a fan. I always loved that "Ayyyy" ad-lib.
@@sassykow That movie was so depressing for me as well.
Henry seems like one of the few down to earth Hollywood people.
Yup. Definitely not The Fonz - lol
Henry is such a great, normal guy who is very humble!
I never even watched Happy Days. But I've always adored Henry. Funny, chill, super down to earth. Seems like someone everyone would like.
I grew up watching Happy Days, he was the coolest person on TV back then.
You really missed out on a super hilarious show.
@@klmegm197682 Agreed! But only the first 3 or 4 seasons
Yes, General…😏
He's Israel first, America second. Always remember that. Him and Shapiro are the same.
He had his head up there a long time before that date.
Henry Winkler: “I have a great Joni Mitchell story.”
Bill: *Couldn’t care less, completely and utterly ignores Henry and just keeps talking about his thing 🤣😂🤣

@@slipstreammonkey Sure thing
Though Bill has a reputation of interrupting here, he has met his match with Henry.
Henry did it by disappearing into his phone and saying "Yes" a lot.
It was pretty funny here, as Bill himself said it felt like a sketch
Winkler comes across as so mellow & nonchalant, while being so focused & deliberate (interesting) ..
Totally in control, in the moment and does so flawlessly.
Is this the fastest Bill ever declared he's not married and doesn't want to be. 😂😂 We get it, Bill. You're beating the crap out of a dead horse..
He's not quite sure if his choice, still. Time has run out.
THANK YOU, Henry Winkler...for SLAPPING Bill around a bit...He thinks he knows everything...he does not. THANK YOU for raising important issues...
Bill is right about Israel
What part is he correct on Israel how would he knows from California are u a crazed maher fanzine
@@darrenryan1161 Your comment really needs no response, as it is inarticulate and just dumb.

It has been my life's goal to give thumbs up to Henry Winkler since I was like 8. 👍 👍
You’re a wonderful human being, Henry. As Bill said you radiate optimism and goodness, I added the goodness part 😊🙏🏻
Haha!
Barry is the gold standard of sit-coms (if that's what it is, cause it's hard to pin down), and Henry Winkler is a huge part of it.
Did Bill just say that only Israel wants a two states solution?🤣🤣🤣🤣 I really don't know what this guy is smoking
He’s such a shill… he just repeats what ever Z!onist talking points. He doesn’t know a single thing about what those negotiations entailed and how they were designed to not be accepted
@1Deep43VA 💯! On this topic Maher chooses not to live in truth.
Henry is an underrated actor.
Name another 5' 6" Jewish actor that could believable play the toughest Italian playboy ever.
That's 50 years ago, everyone was 5'5 back then.
Edward G. Robinson. “Little Caesar”.
James Caan was 5’9” so close..
The Fonz was an INCREDIBLE influence on, and role model for, MILLIONS of people.
Tom cruise is about 4 feet tall.
Too bad Bill not knowing much about Henry, didn't let him elaborate more on it.

He has the energy of a sweet grandpa who lets you know everything is going to be alright.
Henry Winkler and Bill Maher together are the best! This is the funniest. Great interview 💙
I enjoyed this interview immensely. Henry is an exemplary human. His wit is razor sharp but almost entirely understated. To see two people volley back and forth so effortlessly is magical. Pure joy surrounds this man.
I met Mr. Winkler and John Ritter on Broadway in "The Dinner Party" in 2000 (wow!). It was awesome. :-)

Henry Winkler on Arrested Development is absolute comedic Gold ❤

This show is AWESOME! The fact that these two can have such deep disagreements, be themselves as they disagree, but be cool with each other while doing it, is so fantastic to me. I thin this is what America needs.
Henry: "being nice to the waitress" 😂
They are actually a pretty hilarious duo together. You can imagine the two of them actually just setting together not on a podcast or being recorded and their conversation not being much different than this.
Met Henry at a Comic Con in Pensacola. He signed my Scream DVD cover. What a nice guy!
What's the point of having a great guest like Henry Winkler when you won't let him get a word edgewise?
to hear yourself talk. so others may bask in your precious effusiveness.
bill created this show so he has yet another platform for him to get on his soapbox
Was hoping for part 2 of QT but Henry is of course more than welcome!
He will always be "The Fonz"; the coolest guy ever!!!
Henry Winkler! Get more of these types of interviews... Good choice.
But with a less obnoxious host.

Bill hasn't realized he doesn't have a wife yet!
Nor will he ever figure it out!
Whether she has good breath or does that...heeeeey. Good wife.

Will always love him in "Nightshift" - He really should do another film with Michael Keaton :)
Well said. 👏🏻
Did he get rejected by someone or have a fight I was thinking. He walked in almost like he wasn't done with something. I guess every show he isn't going to feel "I want to do this".
Bill can be crabby at times, especially with women.
Inside of 60 seconds he'll insult them some way. I don't get it.

It’s so nice to hear Bill and his guests talking without being interrupted after every line by screaming and whooping, like on Real Time.

Such an Iconic man.
Just saying.
I met Henry Winkler a few years back at a convention and he was the nicest guy I have ever met. He went down the line of people and got all of the kids together and did the coin trick from the movie CLICK. It was surreal!!!
