A pet rat mimicking his owner's martial arts techniques still makes more sense than Splinter mastering Ninjitsu after just reading a Japanese picture book (Cough, 2014). Seriously, the only thing dumber is Edward Kenway moving and fighting like an Assassin and adapting to their weapons in Black Flag right away despite having no prior training. Plus, considering that multiple martial arts originated from mimicking animals, the reverse was actually a mildly clever idea. Well, at least they didn't make them aliens.

The first TMNT movie made me grow out of the 80's series (keep in mind I was about 7 back then) because I kept wanting the series to be as good as the movie. It got to the point where I saw the first 2 movies so much that I completely forgot what the show was. Nowadays, my favorite TMNT series is the 4Kids one.
I'm not questioning your statement, but you have to explain under which objective points the TMNT film is (or was) a masterpiece. Splinter's backstory in the series makes way more sense than the movie version. He was already a master of martial arts and fled to nyc due to dishonor over a misunderstanding. Shredder set him up to look like he was threatening another dojo master.

For me the first movie is a master piece, the fact that is a combination of the original comics by the creators and the cartoon makes it really good, I watched it when I was 7 yrs old and I wasn't out there swearing and that's because I had strict parents, parents shouldn't blame movies or tv shows giving bad influence to kids, it's all about good parenting, reminds me of that movie bubble boy where a mom wanted to keep her kid inside a bubble without exposing him to the outside world.
I loved the Vanilla Ice scene lol. I was about 5 or 6. These movies were the talk of the playground. Then within the next 2 years by the time the 3rd movie came out it was no longer "cool" to like the Ninja turtles..or Vanilla ice. If you did you were considered a dork,loser,baby etc. I wore my ninja turtles shirt first day of 3rd grade and got ridiculoued by my classmates. I never wore it again sadly. Funny how now it's nostalgic and I bet most of the kids who gave me crap for still liking the turtles are nostalgic for them. And maybe even for Vanilla Ice lol.

That’s a dumb excuse. Plenty of times “comic relief” characters in one version of a series are far more threatening in another, especially a movie. Plankton and Mojo Jojo were a LOT more evil in their movies than their respective series.

Even after all these years TMNT 1 is still one of my most loved favorite movies that I can enjoy completely without any of it's flaws bothering me. And despite it's bigger flaws I also have a soft spot for TMNT 2 as well.
Most people wrongly try to compare the first movie with the cartoon TV series, when the first movie was based more-so on the comic. And it's a pretty damn good interpretation of the comic. The 2nd and 3rd movies were tone down and seemed to be more cartoon based.

cheesy as the first two movies may be, they are proof that a live action take on a cartoon can be done right, too bad the director of "The Last Airbender" never saw these movies. for me these movies were my childhood, i watched them so damn much that i burnt out two VHS copies of each, now they remain a time capsule of a period that was cool and hip, where now the world is trapped inside and afraid to go outside, lest we grow sick and die.

I prefer Teenage Mutant Turtles 1-3 over TMNT 2014 and Out of the Shadows the only good thing about Out of the Shadows was Bebop and Rock Steady sure TMNT 3 Turtles in Time has its flaws but at least it doesn't repeat Michael Bay feitsh with explosions and outdated jokes

cheesy as the first two movies may be, they are proof that a live action take on a cartoon can be done right, too bad the director of "The Last Airbender" never saw these movies.
for me these movies were my childhood, i watched them so damn much that i burnt out two VHS copies of each, now they remain a time capsule of a period that was cool and hip, where now the world is trapped inside and afraid to go outside, lest we grow sick and die.
