    At the $40-$50 Barnes & Noble price point, it'd be a must buy. As it stands, I get buyer's remorse just looking at it.

    My FLGS had this on preorder for a little over $100 USD. Ridiculous. Looks like the sort of game you can get for $30 at Barnes and Noble and not even with the hard cardboard box or insert. Hopefully I can find this someplace else for cheap in the future.

    Your enthusiasm at the end is really cool. I think cooperative games can be easier to get people to play, and there is no risk of one person understanding the rules/strategy better causing an unfair game. I agree with others that it is somewhat expensive. It makes sense when GW sells boxes of 10 models for $50, but I was kind of expecting a discount because of it being a board game. That being said it looks like a fun experience. Cheers

    I’m so glad you’re excited about it - I am too. I play the Space Marine Adventures Doomsday Countdown solo play game at home semi-regularly and over time have customised it a bunch. I’ve had great fun with it but it’s got a little old now due to the lack of variety in missions (outside of the randomised board) and no expansions… so I’m all in for this! A new casual solo play game in the 40k universe I can play of an evening? Yes please. As a Kill Team player as well it’s nice to see it being used as an on ramp for KT as well. Hopefully shows GW knows KT is a game that has staying power now.
    I really hope with this one like you said we get some expansion content. White Dwarf would be perfect!

      @@GuerrillaMiniatureGames AOS Crypt Hunters comes with 14 plastic GW miniatures. I'm guessing the $ difference is linked to the number of sets produced. This one seems to be more like a limited release :( Another GW's board game comes to mind: LOTR's Battle in Balin's Tomb. I think the quality of the components, hard cardboard box, 22 old plastic miniatures was good. A single scenario, though. $75US for a limited run of games produced. Thanks for the review Ash! I remember your GMG review about the new Kill Team being great for the people who are already into Kill Team. Also, yes. I've wanted a 40k "Underworlds" for years. Especially if they made some tweaks (like maybe ditch the universal cards?). As you said, unique "hero" models to the level of the underworlds sculpts, but in 40k? It would basically print money for them. Its also just a solid system that got a bit bloated for me past season 4.

    I was actually excited about this, but once again GW makes a product so over priced for what you get that I can't, in good conscience, buy it. I have to agree with some other posts here that what you get in this box is not worth more than the Barnes & Nobles exclusive releases. I have purchased a few of those, and for what they contain, they are set at a good price point. The sad thing is, this type of game's target audience is casual board gamers who might be interested in 40k, but not the normal games, and gamers who love the video game. But at this price neither of them will buy it. Hell, it would be cheaper to just buy the actual video game. And for hardcore 40k fans? Many of them probably already own 50% - 80% of the miniatures included. So why pay $100+ to buy generic rules and some cardboard and cards? At least make all original, game inspired sculpts if you're going to charge such a ridiculous price and try to justify it as a collector's item. I agree with Ash that an expanding game like this, set in the 40k universe, would be great. But at the price GW is selling it at? It's not going to happen. Maybe... MAYBE... this gets one or two expansions. But I doubt it. This has "one shot" written all over it. I'll be waiting to see it discounted on Amzon before I even think about buying this. And that's a shame.

  • @ultimentra
    @ultimentra 6 месяцев назад +4

    Here's my issues with this game:
    1) Extremely poor timing. I've been playing Darktide since beta, I have 195 hours in the game. I know it quite well, and I know its community. Darktide is on its last legs. It has lost a huge amount of market share to the phenomenon that is Helldivers 2, and a GW branded game will likely not gain that market share back until Space Marine 2 comes out. After that, Darktide is as good as dead. If you need details as to why, I'm happy to add those, but there are multiple factors coming together that support my statement. If GW had better timed this release for when the game released, or when their big skill tree update happened which made interest in the game explode and brought a bunch of people back, this tabletop/board game would have been far better received.
    2) Little to no advertising. How, as a huge fan of the PC game, did I literally not know this was in the works or coming out until a week ago? What kind of pathetic excuse for hype and advertising was that? This should have been on the lips and minds of darktide players for months at this point. However, I think the reason why this was not the case was that GW either does not care, or there are literal detached morons in their marketing department.
    3) No new models. I literally own all of the models that come in this game, why would I buy this? Who is this being marketed towards? I don't know, because they didn't do any advertising. Who the heck are they trying to sell this to? Doesn't seem to be me.
    4) It's too little too late. For reasons stated in point 1, the Darktide PC game is dying, and FatShark nor GW care to save it because Space Marine 2 is on the way. If this was an effort to create hype around the "Darktide" trademark/property in general, its too late for that. Helldivers 2 already stole the vast majority of market share that would be playing the Darktide PC right now because Helldivers 2 is very simply a better game. Sure its not a Warhammer 40k game, but its a better game, and its close enough for enough people to not care.
    Ash, I get where your excitement is coming from, because you see something raw that you mold and make your own. You haven't put nearly 200 hours into the PC game to where your view of this release is colored the same bias I have, which is skepticism. The Darktide PC has been so poorly handled in the past 3-4 months that I've completely lost interest, and I'm not just skeptical that GW will support this game, I'm also skeptical that this products conception was really anything more than a convenient cash grab. This product is literally a bundle of recycled pieces, it uses a weird mix kill team and underworlds rules, recycled models (that look nothing like the game characters), and a recycled IP.

    I'm confused about your vision of this simple lil 'boxed game'. I can only think there's a conflation of your vision for a DT game from a few years back & the actuality of this game.
    & yes, that it's a better co-operative game than the Warhammer Quest series of games.
    & what this co-operative game has in common with the Versus games of Underworlds.
