I went to see this opera for the first time last week, it was my second opera ever, I'm 54. My first was La Bohéme last year. Butterfly blew me away, it was so emotional. I grew up on a working class council estate in Ireland where nobody went to the opera. So glad to have discovered it later in life. This woman's voice and acting ability is so good
She is breathtaking, even the very beautiful music she has to follow sounds downright unsupportive/unworthy of her flowering but measured voice to fit Puccini's mold. This is beyond perfection of what was given to her. A job fulfilled for eternity, bless you.

When Puccini wrote this he could never have imagined it would be sung by such an amazing soprano. Angela Gheorgiu has voice of an angel which in my opinion could never be bettered. This is truly what dreams are made of....
The amount of work She has put into perfecting this and all Her performances. Not only is She a comitted GENIUS but obviously a dedicated lover of Opera Herself. We are blessed to have experienced this most beautiful aria. Thank you Angela you truly are an Angel thank you thank you thank you
I have never heard anyone sing this aria or Vissi d'arte like Angela. She paces the arias to divine perfection and has this incredible power ready to unleash at just the right moments. I can listen to her again and again. True diva.

Safe to say she is my favourite Butterfly.I have several recordings with other great sopranos but my recently purchased complete opera with Angela and Jonas Kaufmann is an absolute joy and revelation as we hear how she has settled into the role.With repeat listening I have picked up subtle nuances in her Un bel di vedremo such as her final triumphant notes where she allows a second of doubt to creep in which is really heart-breaking.I feel so lucky to have the divine Angela come along in my life-time.Thank you.❤️

I think this aria is a real test of a soprano's interpretation talents. Beautiful voice and heartrending interpretation of the emotions within it. I haven't cried like this over 'Un Bel Di' since 1956 or so, when I first saw 'Madame Butterfly' as a movie, when I cried so much a lady in front of me gave me a bag of candies to console me. I was nine-years-old and It sealed my love of opera for the rest of my life...
What a lovely memory! A young child being moved to tears over music. We must give the sets to every child. So grateful for my mother who took us everywhere there was art and music!
