- Cover of U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. Part 1 of upcoming guitar tutorial. Based on the version from the Live from Milan DVD. Recorded entirely with Fractal Audio's Axe-Fx Ultra. See www.u2guitartutorials.com for more information.
Man, you have no idea how helpful these tutorials are. I work all day in a huge city, I'm married and my wife is not much into music (LOL) and when I get home and need to learn some new music I go to RUclips straightaway....
Your videos are awesome and you share all the information you've got.
You're a special person. I'm sure about this!
God bless you and your family.
Cheers!!!
full of courage, perfect balls to show how this music being played.
Lovely playing. Thanks. Lovely start BTW. I love the all black bodies
I love U2, I love this song - and I love your vids!
Watched all 10 parts - and love to be able to play this song now.
Thank you a lot!
When you play it feels like magic.. You are very very good... And thankyou for your great tutorial.. thanks to you i can play this song now and with the right sounds and everything... Thankyou very much sir.
very nice job ! thanks for the all the demos
seen several try and reproduce the Edge. You do it like no other. Just unreal how well you do it.
@ishaan719
Yes, the Herdim blue pick is key to the tone. You play it sideways with the dimples on the pick hitting the strings. The modulated delay is also very important. And Vox AC30 amp or amp model is core to the tone.
Thank you. I explained in the description that this is all Fractal Audio Axe-Fx Ultra. The delays in the Axe-Fx are fantastic.
i can listen to the repetitive part 0:30-1:30 all day long... you jsut can't get enough of it... :-) im looking for this version all over the place...
@U2GuitarTutorials :
Also, Streets is absolutely only one delay. Some say stereo or add two, but there are many sitings of Edge's rig during previous tours and only one TC2290 delay was on for that song based on the switcher setting lights. It's a simple dotted 8th delay. You could add a second subtle 8th note delay low in the mix to fill it out, but in my opinion this just means something else in your signal chaine or tone is missing. Guitar, pups and amp are very important.
The changes are absolutely beautiful man! Love it wow!
Thanks Micheal for sharing this. I think you have the edge covered very well. I am a suscriber. I like the priciseness and detail. You are the best tutor on RUclips.
I like this tone. It's so beautiful
Beautiful! Song of longing!
As always, great sound and perfect playing!
I'm sincerely humbled. It's rewarding to hear that this channel is helping others. That's my goal. More to come!
Part 6 going up today.
Good question. I keep this guitar tuned in Eb (half step down) because there are so many live songs like Slane Streets that are tuned in Eb. So when I put the capo on, I have to put it on the second fret. You have your guitar tuned in E, so you need to put your capo on the 1st fret to get the same tuning as me. I think there are clips out there of Edge using a capo on both frets, meaning the guitar was tuned different. Less stretch of the left hand is required when on the 2nd fret.
Yes sir, KINMAN pick ups rule!! Met Chris Kinman and had a look through his workshop. I have his pick ups ( earlier models to Woodstocks) in the guitar I built. Sounds better than any of my "name"guitars. Everyone who hears it wants to know what it is ... secret - kinman pickups. Chris is an awesome , passionate dude. Love the tone.
Amazing sounds
Thanks
@U2GuitarTutorials yeah my setup likely sucks. I have a les paul with 2 humbucker pickups, a line6 spider IV 120 watt amp and my GT8 is set to vox ac30 clean. I have somewhat come pretty close to getting with or without you to sound nice and where the streets have no name.
Wow que belleza mil gracias !!!!
This is just great work 👍🏻👍🏻
Great job!
Made your sound on my new Helix and it sounds great. You are very very very good sir.
kubel83 is the concert from milan
Closest iv heard anyone sound to the Edges setup.
great sound !!!!
Spot on, you've got that chrome bells hook down perfectly. better without the vocals, nothing wrong with them, just came here for the guitar work!
Thank you very much for your help. It truly is appreciated!
@flmason:
Good question. I did not pan them. Everything is dead center. While I use the L and R channels in stereo, I don't pan the delays. However, sometimes I do pan the entire preset a little left and right. Check out my Beautiful Day cover and you will hear the different presets panned a left and right. But not the individual effects themselves. U2's live recordings have this effect sometimes like on the Letterman show.
Good performance and lesson. If I may....the A and D strings are played as drone notes between the G and B strings in the main riff.
@TheEdge2002 : It's a 2003 Fender Custom Shop Strat (1960 version). But I changed pups to Kinman Woodstocks and put a black pick guard on it.
Great playing , great tone :)
Not sure. DD-20 for sure. It needs to have a modulated delay with depth and rate settings.
Sounds really good bro! Good job!
Amazing
Yes, I did. Watched it until the end and I'm on Eastern Time! The quality was excellent on RUclips.
You're much too kind, but thank you. I've shown my face on a few other vids. I have great respect for the Edge. I'm not creating anything, just trying to learn some great songs and passing on what I've learned so that others can enjoy. I have a long way to go. There are many others out there who are more experienced than me. I just take the time to show as much detail as possible. I welcome all constructive feedback.
Superb work, it’s a pleasure to watch you decode the anthems in my life.
Micheal you have shown me in great detail how to play u2 songs .Thankyou now I can play the guitar and some u2 songs to. All the best from Italy
The guitar solo was otherworldly
May I suggest a fantastic amp for this song: The "Ibonez MIMX 65". It has every effect you could ever think of, INCLUDING the ability to tap ANY delay speed and also control with knobs as well as be able to add echo too. It is a fantastic amp for all type use :)
@SuperCharlie183:
I don't recall. It's either std with capo or Eb with capo. You should be able to figure it out by playing with the track. There are some tabs in the threads of the posts on the U2_Guitar_Tutorials Google group.
@oighroi
Fender Custom Shop Strat (2003). 1960 version and I replaced pickguard to black and put in Kinman Woodstock pups. Thx!
I will record it this weekend. My lighting was bad in the takes I did last weekend. You wont need tabs after my detailed tutorial. It's not very complicated.
@flmason:
There are a lot of theories about Edge's delay times. Join U2_Guitar_Tutorials and/or U_Recording on Yahoo Groups. Very knowledgeable people there. In general Edge usually uses only one delay and it's the settings that matter. A strong dotted 8th on ISHFWILF is all you need for the "double bounce." But Edge has used a very subtle slap back in this song. Same in Bad, but you are really hearing the dotted 8th as the main delay.
Could you please share the delay settings you are using? are you using a deluxe memory man for this?
Hey man, this is awesome, been great explanation and great playing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge :-)
you the best giving explanation in tutorial no one do it like yuo god bless
+Candido Alcantara Thank you!
Nice Playing
I'm not familiar iwth the GT8, and I've not heard that others use it for U2. You need a Strat or very similar guitar with single coil pups. Should be set in quack position (bridge + middle pup). Then you need a Vox AC-30 or AC-15, or Vox AC-30 amp modeler (like the Vox Amplug). Finally, the delay needs to be a modulated delay like the Boss DD-20. If your GT8 has a modulated delay and you have it set up correctly, then your issue is probably the tone from the guitar or amp or both.
i just realised why u dunt have the cam on ur face.... ITS BECAUSE U R THE EDGE, only he could do such a great tutorial. thanks for this, ive never been able to get it 100% right.
Sounds good
sooooooooooooooooooo helpful !!! Thank you
It's Just GREAT
Great thanks for posting
I use .11s whenever possible. I find they have more chime. I use .10s for more aggressive songs with lead parts.
Probably the best cover of this song ! The sound of The Edge !!!
Could you send me (or give me) the chords used for this song please ? I'm not satisfied by the chords given by some websites.
+Amaury 88 I have a full tutorial on this song (this is only Part 1). See my channel.
AMAZING!!!
I explain it in Part 2. I think I was tuned down to Eb and then the cap is on the second fret. If you tune to E, put the capo on the 1st fret.
I love the intro... if you know you know!
@U2GuitarTutorials yea tabs. its ok now, ive checked the others. thanks.
Great job, I watched all 9 parts. The 1/8th pattern was the key for me so I could play it on acoustic. I capo up 2 and use G = 6x0032, C = x30032, D = x00323. 1/8 picking pattern is 63263263 63231232.
@U2GuitarTutorials - I listened close, but wasn't certain... also never sure when someone uploads and it gets encoded in mono. Some analysis of U2 songs speak of dotted eigth on one side and quarter note delay on the other. (Streets comes to mind?)
So thought I'd ask, just to be sure.
No doubt Edge pushed the use of delay pretty far. Certainly created his own sound. It rocks without the extremes of distortion that are the hallmark of a lot of other styles, to be sure.
Very nice! Thank you for sharing. I just received my Axe-Fx last week. Love it!! If you have the time, quick question, how do you program a "shimmer" effect in the Axe-Fx? I know it is a combination of a few specific effects, I just don't know which ones or what their settings, approximately, would be. Thanks for any help you could provide a noobie to the Axe-Fx.
Thank you very much.
When will be ready the part 2?
Angelo
PS
Would be very interesting to have the tabs.
Freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!
perfect tutorial, will help many guitarists ;)
@marcusbball50: I use the Axe-Fx Ultra.
Part 2 goes through the settings. It's just a dotted 8th note delay with one other subtle delay as explained in the video. If I have time this weekend, I'll try to dig out the old preset.
Thanks!
Prefer the album version Capo 4th fret D and A Chords or F Chord 5th 6th and 7th fret
Thanks, that would be great! Leon
Great sound
My favorite U2...
And Mark Knopfler..
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Exellent !!
@JohnJR2009:
Kinman Woodstocks normal set. Perfect for U2 stuff. And noiseless.
@palmtree2367:
Go to the website u2guitartutorials and go to "Other Resources." The link is there. His name is Am and he does a great job.
Hey Michael, would love to get/see the settings/parameters of this song on the Axe.
Hope I'm not too late 'cause it's the Ultra, wich is gone I asume, but maybe you have them on your FX2 too. Hope you can do a video of that. I really love this tone as a basic tone. Add some other effects where needed.
Hope you can help me... Grtzzz Leon
Perfect!
Thank you very much.
great tutorial - great tone - might you be making the Axe FX presets available?
@EaglesStir :
I think Am had trouble a while back on his website and/or computer and had to remake many of them. You can email him and ask what happened. I think I have this old one if you prefer it. Join U2_Guitar_Tutorials on Yahoo Groups. Post a request and I'll email it to you.
Great tone! love the axe fx ultra( j got a pod xt live,no dual delay, no shimmer)!!for the shimmer j use a behringer pedal(sorry!!)how did u divide the shimmer only for the high note? thanks ciao cheers from italy!
Wouldn't you post this same version played on guitar acoustic? Tkx!
Go to our Yahoo group file section (link on my channel page). You can download some presets with shimmer in it. Can't give you all specifics here, but it's the multi-delay block (with all four delay settings and some pitch shifted) into a filter to cut off the extreme highs, to very wet reverb to smooth it out.
I haven't tabbed it, but I just finished recording the rest of the tutorial. I just need to edit the video.
bueatiful
was that the edge playing???!! grawesome!!
wow! I been looking this lesson for years! Thank you for the lesson! Very accurate!! Can i ask what is your shimmer pedal?
My best wishes!!!
@hfox21296
"Wake Up" by Arcade Fire
v ery good job
I will show you in an upcoming tutorial. I tied an expression pedal to the input gain of the multi-delay (MTD) block and I bring in the shimmer in and out with the pedal while I'm playing. You can see my right knee moving a little during the video.
Great cover and great tone! Can you tell me what pedals and amp you are using and guitar in order to achieve that?
He's left a message under the video "Recorded entirely with Fractal Audio's Axe-Fx Ultra" So no amps or pedals, just the Axe-FX Ultra. From his web page he says he's using this guitar "Fender Custom Shop 1960 NOS Stratocaster (2003) - Black w/ Maple Neck"
hey dude
REAL good job on this. thanks for the post. do you per chance happen to have tab sheets written up for this? you'd be my hero if you did
Will you put up the taps for part 1 too?
I can do the first half with no tabs but after
you changed the first tab to the second I cannot figuer out what fingers in what fred.
or can anyone help me out?
It's a Fender Strat, but not like the Edge's. Edge has many. I believe his Black Strat is a '70s vintage model. This is a 2003 Custom Shop 1960 model.
Bravo!
I was looking for it.
Jast a question: where can i find the guitar music sheet of this song or the tab with your performance?
Thank you very much.
Emil
Yes, I think WOWY will be next. I also need to do a full cover of Streets, which I may do next. But WOWY will be the next tutorial after I finish ISHFWILF.
Just discovered your channel - really nicely done! Quick question tho, out of curiosity - why a capo? Are you just matching the recording? Thanks again!
+Kevin Bourke Edge plays it like us (or has many times). Guitar often tuned in E or Eb for live songs. Just has to do with they key they play it in. Also, it' hard to play near the headstock because the frets are wider apart. So by tuning the guitar down, you can use the capo to move the hand position so it's easier to play (less stretch).
Makes sense! Thanks very much for getting back to me. Great channel btw, I'm hooked!
Hi. Have a new video tutorial? Thank you
Would you PLEASE do this with any backing tracks or vocals??? Please??!!!
See the full tutorial series. This is just part 1.
@@U2GuitarTutorials I have! For years! Please send me the link to the video with no backing tracks or vocals, please? Thank you.
@barnettsparrow88 STANDARD!!! Just a capo on the 2nd fret
good job :)
hey michael does the edge herdim pick make it so chimey cause i really love that sound? or do i have to adjust something with modulated delay
