And now you are beating guys half you age. I surfed WSA and HSA in my 60 it was a gas seeing the long faces when I made the final with guy in their 40s. Thanks Kellly, see you in the line up at Sunset this winter.

I think it was Surfer Magazine did an article once on what makes Kelly so good. A couple of things I remember was they talked about his stance. If you watch Kelly his shoulders and hips are kind of squared across the board and keep his center of gravity really balanced throughout all his maneuvers so he doesn't lose sped or fall very easily. He also has really long feet which help him maintain a good grip. There are also other things like natural athleticism and it all combines to make his great style when he rides. He's always a pleasure to watch surf. There are lots of guys who rip and are in a really good flow but some you just cringe a little at their style. I don't think I've ever watched Kelly surf and gone "ehh that wasn't such a great ride". Maybe the wave wasn't all time but you never think he didn't ride it well or want to look the other way. The other surfer who I really miss and think he actually was more exciting to watch was Andy Irons. He could ride the most macking waves and do phenomenal moves that like Kelly most of us can't even mind surf that well. Also you never knew what Andy was going to do and he had every move down. I still think Andy is the best surfer ever. He also had that perfectly balanced stance and style that made him so much fun to watch.

Honestly the big difference is if you watch like Chris Brown, late eighties early early 90’s. He didnt move his back foot forward when he was pumping or looking for speed. kelly, Shane, Knox, beachen, they all did moved their back foot forward to pump and get speed. That little tiny thing🤷🏽

I remember his dad taking me to surf after football practice and I was also 10.I was the only black kid in the water at Patrick Air Force beach and the Cocoa Beach pier because that 1 day at practice Kelly invited me.

Why do you think you had so much talent early on in your life Kelly 🤔
It may be the 5' tall quarter pipe with the casters on it we used to roll down to the bottom of the driveway and session on whenever it was flat. Could be the Surf Swing we would do Loop outs on hanging in the back yard 🏄‍♂️ might be the fact my brother Sean used to push me. It may be that my dad would load whoever up in the van and we'd chase down the best break that day. It could be that I surfed with east coast legends that didn't mind coaching me a little. Like Matt Kechelle, and Glenn Klugel Hahaha. Those were the days. I never had a bad day surfing 🏄‍♂️ with you or Sean. Keep doing you Kelly 👍
