He said way back in 1988 that Immolation was influenced by Necrophagia, Possessed, Destruction - Sentence of Death, Kreator - Pleasure to Kill, Sepultura - Morbid Visions, and Only the Death and Mantas demo stage recordings . Back in the Rigor Mortis days he was so Metal that he rusts in the rain. Through the years he's kept up with the most Brutal Heavy Dark Scary Evil Disturbing Music available. He's probably Online Every moment not on stage researching whatever the Most Brutal Slam Brutal Death Metal out there is. And just like the rest of us . If it ain't as Heavy as Mortician it's not on the Ross Dolan Playlist. He helped bands like Broken Hope get started, because of his desire to see Heavier bands have decent material with availability to a wider audience. He was like the Erik Lindmark of his era
It makes sense what J dog is saying. The vets/ pioneers of death metal we're kind of just stepping into new territory and exploring the boundaries of metal. They didn't grow up with it in excess like us second and third generation dudes.
I have a hard time with the new stuff it all sounds the same for the most except Blood Incantation, Skeletal, Cadaveric Fumes etc. Give me some early Cryptopsy, Blood of Christ, Akercocke ok gotta go jam now!!🤘🫡
Agreed although I like that album a good bit, it seems more bland than everything else other death metal bands were doing. Monstrosity and CERTAINLY Malevolent Creation Destroys them though in my opinion. Hell I consider Retribution to be one of the top 10 Death Metal records ever made in my book.

I got to chat with Ross at Psycho Las Vegas in August. He was there purely as a fan and was looking forward to seeing a good mix of death and black metal bands. I'd wager his playlists slay.
The only monstrosity I own is “in dark purity” and I think that’s better than the first 2 gorguts, but obscura is better than anything monstrosity did. But the first 3 malevolent creations, untouchable by gorguts.

I'm 2016 I was at obituary and cannibal corpse show in New York City and I could see the back of ross and Bob's head standing right in front of me LOL I tapped him on the shoulder and sure enough they turned around and it was done and we talked for about an hour. They were there just to see the bands were not playing that night at all. Just there as fans . Fucking awesome
Ross and Bob are very cool. Me and friend of mine saw them and while we didn't get to talk too much to them, they are down to earth. Not to mention their set last year was incredible.

Erosion of Sanity is top ten DM albums ever for me. Just an opinion. I’ll take the the first Gorguts over Imperial Doom but not Millennium. Millennium might have an terrible album cover with the Easter eggs but that album is a masterpiece.

I had two albums I shut off in the middle of listening to this year. Valhalla Bound - Virgin Hearts Kvasirs Blood - W.O.T.A.N. Both of these sucked and I would recommend other devils stay away from these

I felt sorry for them (not really), because evidently they were not too embarrassed by their ridiculously stupid looking band.....I'm sure they sound amazing though. Got a GWAR-wannabes vibe from that band photo, it was not a favorable first AND ONLY impression. But I'm immensely pleased to find out about your knows-no-boundaries level of fandom for that band. Turisas must be really quite amazing after all, perhaps I judged them to harshly. Now for Ghost.....that's your thing. It's a solid movie though, it deftly transcends multiple genres of film with seemingly effortless ease, it's director must have been something of a genius. A lot of musicians listen to different music so they aren't influenced by what they are hearing. It sounds more organic to the bands.
