The first time I heard Jim was at Ron's Music in Toledo, Ohio. He came in , wanted to pay a guitar. I hiiked him up through a Roland JC120 amp, tuned the guitar and gave it too him. I went toward the back of the store to get a few things. I heard 3 guitar players. I wondered who joined Jim. To my surprise Jim was the only player. A talent unsurpassed.
I got off of social media. Quit playing for a couple of years. You are my new inspiration! I started Pickin again about four weeks ago.. I’m all about the Claw and Strutting. Old Freight Train is in my cue also. You are the man! Keep on pickin!
Jim, you are outstanding. I have this piece on your Open Window CD and play it all the time. Would love to see you in concert again in Ohio or Florida.
Jim is definitely a Master!! I just love his unique style. Give a listen to his solo with Claire Lynch and the Wabash Cannonball on live at Santa Cruz, just some more of the Jim Hurst magic. Helluva picker!!!
Eric Bradley It does kinda have a Jimmy O sound to it. But guess who Jimmy O learned it from? Yep, you guessed it, the master double stop picker himself, Jerry Reed. Good ear, Eric. Great job on this song Jim H.
Thanks Jim love the ,,, uh ,, all of it. Tone, style, mood, depth. Its me all the way. What tuning do like for this one, if any.. Sounds like drop D maybe DADGAD .
Good player but it seems to me that a lot of guitar players come up with a lick or two, repeat it, bridge it with another lick and call it a song. I don't hear a melody, just a few licks played over & over & givena name. (yawn)
when I was younger I played in jam sessions with him at a music camp and got to meet missy and see them play. He is an amazing guitar player and down to earth guy. This video is just a small slice of his music. Too bad there's not a lot of him on youtube. If you got to meet him in person/ play with him you wouldn't be yawning at all!!!
Hey Buddy you must not have any musical knowledge this guy is ripping it up with just an acoustic guitar!! Let's see you sound anything close to this? Remember this is solo to, no band to progress with a beat and tone. Spend some more time listening to all walks of guitar playing especially solo and you will find this guy rips!

What a great guitarist! I made my best record with Jim and that includes a later record with Bryan Sutton.
Great stuff! Definitely captures the feel and sound of the Alabama Wildman! May be even more if it were played on nylon. Excellent!
Reminds me of Diamond Rio music. Great job, Jim!

Dave KyleAre you serious man?
Let's hear some of your music......
Can't blame Jim for your deafness and lack of musical appreciation, maybe he took your sweeties or something!
