I've experienced anxiety and depression since I was 13 and I've always blamed and hated myself for it because its felt like there is something wrong with me. Recently I put together that I may have gotten some form of ptsd as a toddler after an incident happened and I was injured. In a study I read with a similar case study, a little boy ended up a little developmentally behind than his peers on the emotional front. I guess it dawned on me how little control we have on how our environment and experiences shaped our brains - now it's our present self who has to live with the effects of all the accumulated stuff...and though it is hard every day i am choosing to stay patient with myself and learn the art of self forgiveness, love and care. It's taken me a long time to even get to where I am today.

I think I have a growth mindset now, although there were many periods before, where I did have a fixed mindset. I think we all naturally have a a growth mindset but sometimes life and circumstances can lead us to a fixed mindset, even to a point sometimes where we may not even be aware of it. If we are able to recover learn from it and help others to get through in some way, is best possible thing we can do.
As well as having fixed/growth mindsets at different times of our life, I think we can have them in different areas of our lives at the same time? Here's to growing!

A person with a growth mindset believe he/she can learn at accomplish almost anything, however, This video ignores the struggles of having a growth mindset. If a person has a growth mindset and a life situation where the person is totally stuck (financially or through responsibilities), it can be very frustrating, the inner potential can feel trapped and life can feel limmited as the person do everything he/she can to progress in life while the actual progress is almost non exsistent.

When I want to get better at something, I pick a certain amount of minutes per day to work on it and I generally work on it around the same time of day (morning or evening) so that it's routine. Even if I don't feel like doing it that day I still do it, as long as its feasible. Four days a week minimum, but six days is preferable, depending on what it is. I keep this routine up for several months at least. Because growth doesn't happen in days or weeks. Problem in general is, when you spend your day at work, your time is limited, because you need to set aside time to relax and sleep as well. With those restraints, you can only pick one or two things to grow in at a time. So you really need to be decisive in the areas you want to grow. You can't do everything, and in fact, as one person you can only do very little. So you need to be decisive in what you want to do, realizing this limitation.

That is such an important topic! 💚 My motto is: Everyone can learn everything. Only time and motivation differs. In my childhood my parents alsways said, that I just don't have a talent for maths but I'm good at other things such as language. And this planted a fear of maths exams in my brain. So I failed and failed and faiied. And then stoped caring about my maths classes so I can push away my fear. I had to do 7th grade again because of my bad grades. But then I got good grades, I already knew the binomial formula and I began to have kind of fun. I made extra exercises and my teacher also supported me and gave me some books. But it was years later I understood that there is no such thing as talent. It all depends on motivation, fun, efford and time. Well, I wouldn't say, that my parents harmed me but it is sad that they just wanted to calm me and make me feel better and caused the exact opposit
I was told by a counselor A few times and I keep reminding myself of it when I get frustrated if things don’t go as I planned or hoped. He said, “God looks at our efforts, not our results.” Meaning; do the best you can in each moment and understand that failures will happen, but keep trying and don’t give up, as in don’t just totally quit. My best on one day might not be as good as my best on another day. Even though this world expects perfect performances all the time, God only asks for our best efforts to do what brings us closer to Him. After all, Heaven is our true and forever home. Everything earthly is just temporary, except Love. True Love is carried and carries us into eternity.
Seeing imperfections in me as “opportunities” just makes me feel worse and seeing them in such a rosy, happy way feels wrong. Like it’s diminishing my feelings
Thats difficult yeah. It all depends on what the imperfections are. Some stuff cant be learnt from and we all have (emotional) needs as well. Feeling sad after being cross with someone, is just normal.
Well, It could be that's not for you. The more tools in our tool box the more options we have for growth. Your feelings are always valid, the question I would ask is, are they serving you or keeping you stuck?

This channel seems to read my mind. About a week ago a local shopkeeper was listening to Dweck's audio book and we got to talking about self help. I ordered the book a couple of days ago, can't wait to read it!
I think a growth mindset is why sometimes people who struggle with something (like talking to people) can be motivated to do something like a challenge where you talk to as many people as you can. It's a challenge, so it's supposed to be difficult at first; it allows you to be okay with that initial difficulty and gives you an automatic frame to work through things. Without that frame of it being a "challenge," people expect that they should already be able to do "normal" things like talk to people so any difficulty means they failed.
I have a partial growth mindset; im not emotionally fixated or in a deep depression, but I can’t seem to find the motivation to do things. Even when I have the option to play a game or practice art or music, I can’t seem to find the “want” that will push me to the next level. Im so focused on the struggle of maintaining a livable lifestyle that I stopped planning ahead and live for my next paycheck. This is because life is proven to be unpredictable and in our current capitalist system aid will rarely find its way to me. I can’t live past tomorrow

2:57 it's not just bad pop psychology. Psychiatry focus very much on biological causes of mental health. You're doing a great job working against that. Who knows if mental illness is in fact epigenetic?
I'm challenged by how relationships are complicated by the mindsets of each of the people and their mindsets about the relationship itself. For example, I have the mindset that I am flexible and can change but my partner cannot. So then I take on the mindset that our relationship is doomed. I start to look for things that my partner does that prove he's an xzqx!?% which reinforces that the relationship is doomed. Being able to talk about the assumptions we have about one another, our relationship, and how we are seeing things takes time and practice, AND, like Emma said, you can learn to do this.
Thank you, this content is very helpful! I love how you reference that telling an artist "you're so talented" is like an invalidation of that artist skill set. Yes, we are gifted with skills such as art, but we have to put in the work of becoming the best stewards we can be of that gift of talent. Otherwise a treasure we are given becomes trashed. There really are always good options to seek for help, you have to be able to do work though. Even a tiny kitten size step of effort is better than no effort made at all.
I constantly wonder whether I ‘feel better’ because of all the work I’ve put into learning new skills, or if it’s just the upward slope of the cycle. I guess I’ll be able to tell the difference when the crash inevitably happens.
You know the reason I have a fixed mindset, it's because my parents just avoided me from the mistake or didn't make me learn and grow through it and now ir is coming back to me, I am soon going to be 16 years old and I don't know if I can keep a job but I will certainly try and put effort
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. I’m not saying just do a bad job. I’m saying you can’t get better unless you start. Not doing something because of fear of failure is the biggest failure.

Do you ever consider doing a mental health anonymous. Like a group therapy via zoom. Something where everyone can pay an amount for a session(basically based on a few hours) and then a link is sent to them for a zoom chat. In these times where fear is all over the place and our minds need to recuperate I think this would be very helpful. It’s like a therapy session for those who can’t afford the actual monthly costs of a therapist. Yet knowing others are out there just like them trying to regain their mental health.
'There is no such thing as a problem without a gift to you in it's hands' - don't remember who wrote that (Jonathan Livingstone Seagull??) but it's true. Try to take a step back and look at the situation from someone else's perspective. If this were happening to someone else, what would my advice to them be?
If there is alot of suffering involved with my part of it, then I can understand that. But I don't think that God would be unnecessarily cruel. Just correcting the mistake and taking them immediately to bliss.😊😇

There are many Neurographica courses offered RUclips or online guided drawings. No art skills required to work through the issues you mentioned that have positive results. I highly recommend you give it a try and see what one session can help with
🥺🥺🥺
YOU are indispensable! Thank you for making these succinct, clear and powerful pieces. Thank you for giving back!!! I'm forever grateful. My therapist moved on to "greener pa$ture$", and I still haven't found a replacement. But sucks what's out there even with insurance. So I come to youtube, read a lot of books, listen to podcasts and be proactive in my healing and growth. This wouldnt be possible without contributors like you
I think there's a certain amount of perfectionism in a fixed mindset.
Absolutely!
Yeah, but you are very fortunate to have become aware of it, most people just get lost in there childhood trauma and live unfulfilled broken lives.
Emma I don't know if you would read this or not. But you have literally given me back my life. I have dreams and ambitions that i want to chase now. When i was depressed i had no will to live or do anything. And guess what i have unintentionally gained weight because i started eating more when i resolved some of my anxiety. I was underweight and now i eat well and am gaining weight. I didn't even notice it until i stood on a weight machine. Thank you so much for everything that you do 💜
I think I have a growth mindset now, although there were many periods before, where I did have a fixed mindset.
I can't just express how much my distorted thoughts, intense emotions, social anxiety have improved after finding you! God bless you❤
After many years of depression/anxiety & being on antidepressants, I'm off of the meds! Was never taught how to recognize the physical symptoms & process emotions, but I'm working on it. Thank you so much for these free videos! I'm learning so much & it's really helping.😁
I second that emotion!
Just be positive! If you fail and are sad from being abused, that's your own fault! /s This woman is screwing over so many people with this ignorant cult garbage.
She's more talking about mental health thinking not going to a university, she's just using art and shit as an analogy
@@menareshit3120 your taking it so wrong and that's your fault, I'm guessing from your name you've been abused by a man and your one of those women who try to get their power back by running down all men even tho not all men 'are shit' you live a sad life if your abused process it deal with it than let it go, why let it hurt you even if it's not going on, you running down other men just transfers the problem to other people and than you become a bad person
@@kevinhermi9861 that is alot of assumptions about a person you know nothing about, why this personal attack ?
@Ole Kristian Rannekleiv that's exactly it for many people and it can life feel tedious.
I’m going back to therapy next Tuesday. In the last year I lost my job, my girlfriend left me, and my Father died. My anxiety has become worse than ever before. My Agoraphobia is out of control. I’m 23 and I’m so sick of living at home with my Mother, while almost everyone else I know is making something of themselves while I sit here rotting away.
First off...I'm going to pray for you bro. Second..Sorry to hear about the current state of your life and mind. I can relate with the anxiety and Agoraphobia for sure. I recommend you get the book..How to rewire the anxious brain. That book, along with these videos, my faith and counseling has helped me tremendously. Also, another book called DARE by Barry McDonagh. Stay the course and devour the tools out there that help people like you and me. You're not alone and you CAN live a whole different life than you have now. Much luv..@Chris M
Chris
Oops…sorry Chris unintentionally hit send. I am sincerely sorry-I hear and relate to being hit with so many losses, I feel your pain/grief. I appreciate the encouragement in the other comment, give yourself time to grieve…maybe join a online grief/support group, has helped me tremendously. Sometimes all we need is to be heard. You are so NOT alone…many of us out here.
Prayers hugs and never give up hope!
@@dreamzreality1 beautiful message. Thank you! Bless you
Have you got a job? You are in charge of your own destiny no one is forcing you to stay with your mother. Stop complaining and don't waste your time going to therapy it won't help. Do not blame other people for your problems. Stop playing the victim.
Know the options and accept the opportunity to see the change. What a glorious skill. Your videos are so helpful. Thanks.
She is so accurate and explains everything in depth , tysm u r making big difference god bless u !
True Love is carried and carries us into eternity.
what might that look like to someone who doesn't believe in G-d or a Higher Power?
“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?”Psalms 56:3,4
Flesh can do a lot lol
Seeing imperfections in me as “opportunities” just makes me feel worse and seeing them in such a rosy, happy way feels wrong. Like it’s diminishing my feelings
Thats difficult yeah. It all depends on what the imperfections are. Some stuff cant be learnt from and we all have (emotional) needs as well. Feeling sad after being cross with someone, is just normal.
Well, It could be that's not for you. The more tools in our tool box the more options we have for growth.
Your feelings are always valid, the question I would ask is, are they serving you or keeping you stuck?

Thank you Emma.As a nurse and I have found your videos very helpful to navigate the current healthcare challenges I face daily.

I read the book a few weeks ago and I'm learning to have a growth mindset. I didn't know I had a fixed mindset and it hold me from growing. I used to try to look smart, I feel good when I think that I'm better than someone, now I know that it's all about being better, not being the best.
Thank you, Emma. I'm learning English by watching your videos, and I learn about psychology at the same time. I've changed a lot since I watched your videos.
These lessons should be a must in every school
The VA has PTSD programs that help war veterans with all kinds of emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. I came back from Iraq with PTSD, and went to3 different programs at the VA. Therapy and in a Nutshell would be excellent for veterans with PTSD. Seems like the VA only helps with the surface of emotions but not deep. i still have issues with my anger, I don't have close relationships with friends, not married, and I have too much anger to keep a job. Therapy in a Nutshell just popped up, and I love it!! God is helping many through people like this Lady.
This lady brightens my day, such a gorgeous person inside as well as out x
Focus on what she says if you're going to share it.
@@stillnotstill I hope I didn't offend you. Sorry about my comment. Emma has helped me so much. I've spoken to many others and find her the most caring, calming of people. I meant the 'gorgeous ' as an all round thing.

Thank you so much for your videos. I've been having a difficult season and your videos have been a tremendous help. ❤️
I did this in my heartbroken saga. I try to see my heartbroken as something I can learn, improve and progress
this might be one of the most important videos of yours that i've ever watched
At this point I see 9 people with real difficulties putting a thumb . The is great information for everyone
It really isn't though. Toxic positivity is one of America's biggest problems right now and not something a therapist should be contributing to.
I can’t live past tomorrow
wow i didn't know how to put it into words and this explains how i've felt too so well
well-said!!
Wow and I haven't even watched it
I like growing. And what I know about growth mindset it helps me be a better human being
Just need time to watch this
Thank you for creating this channel. I have been struggling with depression and anxiety but can’t afford to go see a psychiatrist/counselor(I used to in the past). This has helped me to some degree.
Thank you so much for this amazing video. Sometimes I tend to have such fixed mindset and frustration eats me out. Thank you for your guidance on growth mindset skill. I hope and pray that people who are able to watch this may actually apply this in their life. May God bless you more on your mental health mission.
Bless you and your family ❤ you have been my pillar of strength for the past 2 years 🙏🏽
This video portraits exactly what I'm going through right now. Thank you for these informative videos.
Me, too.
Your videos are so helpful. And i just want to give you a HUGE thanks, i know you've done a lot of work and research about how the human brain works and everything that goes into it. It means a lot to people like me who need a bit of insight when we are lost on our journey. ❤
Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful video. May God bless always bless you, your family and your mental health mission.

So appreciating your generosity and altruism in making this available. Thank you - your work is helping me enormously with my PhD write-up stuck-ness!
So grateful for this series on How To process Emotions. It has been very helpful & I’ve now got perspective & tools I didn’t have before. I’m also very grateful I found out about the Crappy Childhood Fairy thru your channel.
2:57 it's not just bad pop psychology. Psychiatry focus very much on biological causes of mental health. You're doing a great job working against that. Who knows if mental illness is in fact epigenetic?
psychiatry did almost killed me now the psychologist must fix it.
This is excellent information with action steps we can all use to improve.
This is a great channel! Thank you for these resources
THANK. YOU!!!! A WONDERFUL REMINDER... 🎉🎉🎉 👏🏻👏🏻😃😊😊the skills i practice from learning in therapy...
Thank you so much as always! needed to hear this today.
I constantly wonder whether I ‘feel better’ because of all the work I’ve put into learning new skills, or if it’s just the upward slope of the cycle. I guess I’ll be able to tell the difference when the crash inevitably happens.
Thanks Emma - straightforward and positive information. You're a star!
This is really cool. The world needs more people and resources like you.

You know the reason I have a fixed mindset, it's because my parents just avoided me from the mistake or didn't make me learn and grow through it and now ir is coming back to me, I am soon going to be 16 years old and I don't know if I can keep a job but I will certainly try and put effort
Your lessons are so valuable Emma. Thank you!!
So glad to have found your videos. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful knowledge for free. You have helped me so much already!
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. I’m not saying just do a bad job. I’m saying you can’t get better unless you start. Not doing something because of fear of failure is the biggest failure.
Your videos are so valuable. Great content. What a wonderful service, thank you! 🙏
Hi! Absolutely love your videos. Feel like I finally found a mental health account that I actually find helpful. I was wondering if you could make some videos on adult ADHD!

Can you help me as my follower on here ?
I am grateful to you..
Thank you for sharing this. I save these videos and they are definitely a help in my life; and likely saving the lives of others.
I... LOVE your channel! Thank you!

'...biological contributing factors only influences it to a degree.. i do believe its circumstance's, life styles ,love life .These all need to be sorted out to give a more natural chemical balance .Be a positive person even if ya gotta fake it ,try and be healthier ,be scared and then push through ,read/learn something new , have a hobby ,listen to music ,see your country ,sleep more, try and figure out how to utilizes a skill to have another income ,make plans ,set goals ,meet a nice partner ,see friends and if you still feel stuck and depressed at the end of mastering these steps then least you come out it being an all round better person .
