    This is actually true. I have a friend in Japan who tells me that there is a strong show off culture in Japan that an employee loves his company more than anything else. They are required to be in the office at least 1 hour earlier than when their shift starts, and expected to stay back for 1-2 hours after it ends, even if there is no work. One who fails to do that is seen as a lazy, non-committed and non loyal employee and could be asked to leave the job. The madness goes to the extreme, that when they complete their given assignment of the day, and when they finally submit it, then they are even required to add a foot note somewhere stating that they felt really about been given that work and they feel proud of doing it.
    The point is - who the heck does that? This is pure madness and useless actions. Irony is every worker knows that the other person is lying about writing things that footnote or showing fake commitment by staying back long hours, then why follow this stupid culture anyway?

    • @davidlafleche1142
      @davidlafleche1142 5 лет назад +22

      Even worse: The overwork problem is not limited to white-collar office people. Unskilled blue-collar workers have the same problem. The worst part is, you look at your work situation, and think, "We should get this done." Yet we don't. Then, despite the fact that you run yourself ragged, going full-blast every day...and they STILL tell you, "You gotta work overtime." When is enough enough? How hard do you have to work before they're satisfied?
      There is no incentive to do so. Money isn't the issue. The issue is that you do have other things to do outside the workplace; but they act as though your whole life must be devoted to the job, and nothing else. They don't care that your housework, your interests, your goals and your physical needs are neglected. You ask, "Why is it necessary? Why can't we just get everything done on time?" No answer.

    To my perspective, seeing people sleeping on the street or anywhere in Japan n Korea is very normal because we know we're not the only one who's overworking but then again it's very very bad. You can say that some are too busy working instead of living life😔that's why some goes to bar to drink their stress away then start that life all over again, again, again (sigh) to where they're gonna think about suicide is the best choice for them😵 I live Japan and working here is VERY STRESSFUL. Like you study hard to get into high school then you gotta study hard to get into college. Afterwards you work hard to get an interview and when you do get the job ha you gotta work hard just to impress your boss. You work to live, not live to work. It's a sad life💔 the system NEEDS TO CHANGE.

The trick is that, never tell your boss your actual work progress. If you do, the next time they put a timeline on your task, it will be much shorter. Prioritize on yourself before the company itself. Because, you can still get promoted, and making progress in your career despite delaying your work as much as you can (without over-extending your timeline).

    No one should have to live this way. I get work is important,but, is it worth dying over? You can't work if you're dead. The workers in Japan should have more rights because everyone needs a work life balance. Without that, you'll just get other health problems. Working 9-5, Monday through Friday, having weekends, holidays and sick days off sounds more practical than working Monday through Sunday, 9-12 am, 365 days a year. I mean how is someone going to day off if they work 365 days a year? The Japanese work schedule is very extreme and should change in my opinion.

    I was working at a Japanese company, and there was a time when I was at my busiest and had to work overtime for 75 hours. I remember at that time I had no sense of time and wanted to sleep every day. I'm glad I didn't get depressed...my life is more important than my Japanese company. People from overseas who are thinking of working in Japan should be careful about Japanese companies.

    Japan's labor society has been around since the end of the war, with the spiritual idea that citizens should do their best for the country, and when a company tells them to work long hours, all office workers have no choice but to follow that unreasonable word. . Overseas, I think workers can voice their opinions to the government, but there is a labor law called the 36 Agreement, which was enacted out of fear of backlash from the people, but from the company's perspective, it leaves too many gaps and it is difficult for Japanese people to do so. Japan has yet to recover from the practice of "busting workers like robots." If things have gotten to this point, people from overseas have an image of long working hours when they think of Japan, so it's very embarrassing and disgusting.

    WW2 may have end, but the mindset of a loyal soldier, a kamikaze is still there, it evolved and spread into the community. So loyal to the corporate and work culture, but at the end they all know that it has a high chance of leading them to death. Simple existing without living.

    Japan is really serious about their economy, you can see in their immigration and product going in in their country as can be seen a familiarity in their history. or just a corporate greed? as this so called black company who would black mail young inexperienced employee to destroy their work reputation if they quit.
