PLOT TWIST: The mimic does not posses good people and only possesses those who seem un-likable or bad. If the mimic follows a good person home they will leave them alone in search for someone horrible, once it finds the right person, it acts very kind to others the person was mean to.
It reminds me of a book I read years ago. Its about a doppelganger, only these ones were considered to need to swap skins every so often, so they frequently changed bodies. In the story, the main character accidentally klls and takes the body of a bully, assuming his life. The bullys on and off girlfriend figures it out pretty quickly because he's actually nice, but decides to not tell anyone because, once again, hes actually nice. I don't remember the ending. Edit to say- I found the book, it's literally called Doppelganger by David Stahler Jr.
