So when the monster is asleep, you can use the Tranq Bomb twice without waking it up, then place the trap afterwards for an instantaneous capture. The effect lasts for quite a long time aswell, so you can run along a limping monster and tranq it, then run in front of it to place the trap.
Yeah, it's also really helpful to do it this way in case the monster healed just enough to put it past capture range. Definitely increases your chances of going, "oh crap, he's not quite at threshold, let me pour some more dmg on real quick"
The Tranq Bombs doesnt last that long, if they didnt changed it. Maybe some seconds or so. Often you throw them at the monster, the monster goes into the trap and you have to throw another one, because the effect didnt last that long. In Rise/Sunbreak it lasts longer than in World/Iceborne for sure
that's only if you throw 2. I can't remember off the top of my head but each one past two that you throw makes it last about 30 secs longer. Also, the trap itself doesn't last long enough to really effect what I'm saying. It's for if the monster healed just past cap threshold, or if you misjudged it slightly. I've definitely caught monsters by just pouring on a little bit of extra damage while they are in the trap. Obviously if you grossly miscalculated it won't help, but just like 2% off cap threshold you can sometimes pull it off. And at the very least, you get some free dmg if you were off by more than that. @@Zhyreph

I throw on my SnS support set, hit the low rank monsters once so I don't trivialize the low and high rank fights for the newbies due to my full Fatalis set, and I chug potions all day, as well as capture monsters. I like joining players in the Guiding Lands too. Even if I don't need anything else in the game, I still enjoy the hunt and the GL allows me to hunt endlessly.

i guess you wont read this comments since there is a lot out here and probably a lot of them and I are saying the same but you are missing an important skill for Greatsword for the whole game. if you get Quick charge (i think its named like that in english) you can acumulate the 3 charges of the sword's attack much faster. Also, if you do the other attack while charging (pressing circle in controller) you do like a forward push which makes you unstopable and skip that charge. (For example: if you do 1 charged attack then start charging the second and do the cricle the next attack you'll do will be the 3rd)
This is what ignoring all the mechanics looks like. No clutch claw wall bangs, no flash pods, no weakness exploit or focus. Pure perfection 👌 armor spheres do what? Demon drugs do what ? What's a critical eye ? Master Rank is gonna destroy his soul

Congratulations for beating the base game! Now about iceborne, something you already noticed is that MR monster have a ton of HP. The thing is, your weapon is fine, but from this point onwards armor skills and decos become an essencial part of your build. Farming high rank decos is a really good investment and is a great excuse to expecience the multiplayer. Other than that, all the things other people already mentioned are good advices: - Tackle while charging has super armor that can lead into an opening for a big attack. - Clutch claw attack gives you 180 seconds of bonus damage in the affected part. - Wallbang is a huge opening for big damge. - A lot of high rank quests unlock important equipment and quality of life features in astera and seliana (those with bubbles in the quest name). Keep enjoying the game! You are doing great!
@@theadmiral4157it doesnt sound that bad at all. Mechanics are added in conjuction to monster adjustment. If all you had to worry about was just hitting the monster, no having ti worry about quickly getting red guage to maximise damage or anything. Just stab the monster to death, you could adjust your playstyle however you want and because the game was most likely built in a way where even with such a simple kit, longsword didnt have too low damage(lower monster hp, higher damage on the normal swings etc). I would argue it wouldnt be bad at all, literally all you have to care about is wacking the monster whenever you can, no need to ever animation lock yourself for a buff since there is none
If you have trouble learning wall bang and tackle in a difficult fight, maybe try it out against lower ranked monsters first so you dont have to worry about getting killed as much
His logic was ilogical. "As long as i'm fine i don't feel the need to do it." This means that he will never play another weapon. He didnt even change it when he hunted great jagras 5 times in a row so obviously he won't change to other weapons now that the fights are harder.
Asmon not feeling the game is that much challenging is because healing cat is just broken, and he is also using Divine Blessing. He would have died and failed more, being a new player, if McConnell hadn't always clutch revive and heal him.
This man just brute-forced his way through the entire game spamming nothing but the heavy 3-hit GS combo and ignoring 99% of even the basic the tools the game gives you. Now >that< is an achievement.
And that's a problem with the game, not with Asmongold. Zack isn't dumb enough to complicate things when it's not necessary. And MH is the worst game at explaining the finer details of how to play anyway.
Its crazy how he beat the base game without blocking more than like twice. He also rarely tenderized and didnt shoot the slinger or use any traversal options. He's also going into iceborne with no mantles. LOL that is crazy
I'm kinda amazed he got through the entire base game without even realizing that flash pods exist. Beating Azure Rathalos with a Greatsword and without flash pods is pure pain.
My god, I respect Asmon dedication to learning thing own his own term. But hey, even with not using all these tricks he still commend own the game which meant that little struggle or "unfairness" in his perspective is still part of the game that he himself love.
@@lebron73 U can stun enemies and knock them out of the air if they fly. The more flashpods u use against 1 enemy, the less effect it eventually has, but when going on a hunt, i always had flashpods with me, it's just a cheap and easy tool to make things a lot easier.
So you can capture before they start limping. Kind of amazing that he doesn't look at the map to see the giant flashing skull. Can also capture right after you see the 2nd red drop from monster. First is at 35% hp, 2nd is at 25% which is how low it needs to be to attempt capture.
I could feel Asmon's pain when he was doing the FFXIV event quest. That stupid fucking overgrown chicken is easily THE worst thing to fight in the entire game. It's like they deliberately designed it to be as annoying and frustrating to fight as possible.

imma drop a context bomb not many ppl mentioned about MHW and perhaps being forgotten by many here since it was almost 6 years since the game launched: 1. when Capcom released MHW in Jan 2018, for a whole year every month since then, they drip fed new contents. new monsters to hunt, new armors/weapons to grind, new cosmetics, etc. deviljho and lunastra you watched in this video were the post launch DLC content example. 2. no, it was not an "incomplete game" at launch, it was the whole content you watched asmon playing it until xeno jiiva in this video (it's a whole fuckin week asmon posted lmao), and then so much more. there was already an endgame content that asmon didn't play where you can keep playing/grinding to power creep your character if you choose to. 3. the drip fed content weren't small ones as well, it was all a "meaty" content. at least 1 new monster you can grind. and every other month, there were a very meaty content, for example a totally new elder monster and hunt mode where it was never been released before namely kulve taroth. cross collaboration with FFXIV was also one meaty content where you need to team up with full team to hunt Behemoth, with a slightly altered gameplay to mimic how raid boss is being done in FFXIV. the reward for this: you could create dragoon's Drachen armor and the famous Gae Bolg spear as Insect Glaive weapon. 4. on top of that, they also do a seasonal content where they do a cosmetic changes with the gathering hub. as shown in previous video where asmon shown, the gathering hub currently is in "winter theme" to commemorate winter holiday season. and there were also event quests where you can do to get cosmetics/armors to accompany the seasonal content. 5. to make things interesting, there were timely event where the kulve taroth hunt were only available for 2 weeks and it were gone for another 2 weeks and it returned back. this is still true til today. 6. there were also other funny/goofy content where they do collaboration with Horizon Zero Dawn where you can create Aloy armor and Aloy's hunter bow, collaboration with The Witcher as mentioned where you could hunt Lechen and play as Geralt and create armor that looks like Ciri (not Ciri armor, but Ciri lol), and other goofy collab from Capcom's IP like Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, and Megaman best of all: 1. ALL of the drip fed content mentioned above were FREE. not a single penny were charged to players. for the whole fuckin year of 2018, we always had a reason every month to come back to Astera to do new hunts, or just hang out and see the seasonal event that they gave for us. mind you that this was 2018, where the infamous lootboxes and microtransactions were rampant and the mainstory in many gaming media. 2. they re-did the same whole fuckin monthly drip feeding content with Iceborne when it was launched in 2020, peaking with the craziest hunts: Alatreon and Fatalis. again, ALL FOR FREE. (the content, not the expansion) 3. this has been the case for past Monster Hunter title where they always give post launch content every month. still hold true with Rise and Sunbreak, though unfortunately the contents were less interesting and less meaty with World and Iceborne. of course, we can expect the same will also happen with Wilds when they release in 2025 and with its expansion
I really didn't expect him to commit to this game, I honestly thought he'd make a few goofy attempts and talk about how janky the game was.. but he actually played.. and god damn, I think we made a monster hunter fan out of him, looking forward to iceborne, yall better get him on that shit.
tackle is like guarding (Hyper armor) while you Charging your atk it can be use to Monster roar too its reduce incoming dmg like 70% and it can follow up with TCS and it is a short cut move to get too TCS faster too . It's the most importance thing in Great sword. you shouldn't sleep on it.
For wall banging monsters 1) You must have some kind of ammo in your slinger 2) The monster alert must be yellow icon, red icon mean they are enraged. You can see Alert Status on the mini map on monster icon. 3) You must clutch claw to the monster and position on their head 4) Have the monster face a wall 5) Shoot slinger and bang There are other things to mention but that is the jist of it
The deeper you get into Monster Hunter, the more the game expects you to use everything that is at your disposal. I understand that you want to be able to beat every single monster through sheer skill and patern recognition alone, and that is definitely possible. But the monsters you are going to face from here on out are designed with the use of items like demon drugs and flash pods, as well as the use of open world mechanics like boulder or vine traps in mind. Just like the monsters in iceborne are scaled in a way to include the mechanics of the clutch claw (aka wounding parts and flinch shotting). Patern recognition and careful approach to new monsters is still and always will be your bread and butter in this game, and you're already doing extremely well on that part. Just saying that there's no shame in using other things that are at your disposal as well. On the contrary, the game expects you to do so.
He also unfortunately hasn't been taking advantage of the tree very much so he doesn't have many extra resources to craft these ever so useful tools. He's been playing some offline though, so hopefully he put my time into that when he realizes how important it is.
Kinda funny seeing him go into master rank because he’s ignored soooo many of the upgrades like upgraded mantles and making a base set of MR ore/bone armor/weapon, plus not using tackle and clutch claw wall bangs is probably gonna make his experience in the beginning parts of MR awful.
Can’t believe this dude still doesn’t know how to do the most basic of stuff like cook meat or even open his hunters handbook. It’s by only sheer dumb luck and ignorant determination that’s got him this far but he’s starting to pay the price.

Never doubted he would finish the game - He is for sure finishing Iceborne and being one of the biggest MHW fan - making Wild more into mainstream game
We all hear Iceborne and Master Rank ringing out, demanding to be conquered. I’m really excited to see how you’ll handle some of these challenges. But regardless… very well done.
damn Asmond was blazing through the base game and killed kirin with so much ease. part of which i think really helped was using wyverns ignition and pretty early. that weapon is so busted, i love it. but also his skill from playing other games like dark souls, that definitely helps when you have the fight IQ from games like that. Also i just noticed he did the double kirin quest at low rank and they arent tempered. that tempered one at HR 49 or whatever was pretty difficult. but i still think he'll do fine with maybe a cart against that kirin.
Him playing MHW was a late christmas present, difficulty gonna be ramping soon tho, if he would take 5 minutes to learn some really basic game mechanics he would have so much smoother experience (tackle, wallbanging, riding and extending staggers with claw to list a few) The game might seem pretty simple but there are so many different tricks and mechanics that once you master them the fights are a piece of art
Man this game is so satisfying to watch. That 3rd GS hit is just... *chefs kiss* Long Sword counters and special sheath perfect counters just about beat it.
LOL. Thanks, Asmon for giving us this playthrough! You did beat the game. But also, it’s not altogether wrong when other peeps say that you only just beat the tutorial. World keeps throwing new things at you right up until the end of the game. After that is when you start either Iceborne or really gearing out your character, with your full moveset and all your hunting tools finally in your pocket. Same is true for Iceborne, of course. And after that? Well, after that is Endgame when you start clearing out all the quests available, maxing out your gear, and doing the true final endgame: Fashion Hunter.
People should definitely get him to go back and get the rocksteady mantle, that'd improve his greatsword experience so much. Also he should definitely do tempered lavasioth or greatest jagras a few times to get tons of armor gems.

And then Iceborn (godfather of dlcs) dropped and i was blown away by its well thought through additions to literally every mechanic in the game. Im really glad Asmon is enjoying the game and seeing how amazing it really is. That being said, he’s pretty much just completed the tutorial right now. Theres still so much to do. I hope he plays the new MHW game announced recently in 2025
this is when the game goes downhill as you fight the same thing over and over and over again as you repeat the tedious and repetitive tasks such as eating, sharpening your weapon etc... as you have really no more sense of character progression. This is why after a bit, no one plays the game anymore until they release new content unlike other grinding games like this like poe for examples where it's lowest count would still be 10s of thousands of players despite being a niche and a small marketing compare to AAA games.

Hopefully he makes many new hunters and to all of you aspiring hunters

Time to play the real game.
Yep, he said that in the video.
i guess you wont read this comments since there is a lot out here and probably a lot of them and I are saying the same but you are missing an important skill for Greatsword for the whole game.
if you get Quick charge (i think its named like that in english) you can acumulate the 3 charges of the sword's attack much faster.
Also, if you do the other attack while charging (pressing circle in controller) you do like a forward push which makes you unstopable and skip that charge. (For example: if you do 1 charged attack then start charging the second and do the cricle the next attack you'll do will be the 3rd)
Interested to see if he goes the solo route with the event quests like alatreon or fatalis
This is what ignoring all the mechanics looks like. No clutch claw wall bangs, no flash pods, no weakness exploit or focus. Pure perfection 👌 armor spheres do what? Demon drugs do what ? What's a critical eye ? Master Rank is gonna destroy his soul

Now about iceborne, something you already noticed is that MR monster have a ton of HP. The thing is, your weapon is fine, but from this point onwards armor skills and decos become an essencial part of your build.
Farming high rank decos is a really good investment and is a great excuse to expecience the multiplayer.
Other than that, all the things other people already mentioned are good advices:
- Tackle while charging has super armor that can lead into an opening for a big attack.
- Clutch claw attack gives you 180 seconds of bonus damage in the affected part.
- Wallbang is a huge opening for big damge.
- A lot of high rank quests unlock important equipment and quality of life features in astera and seliana (those with bubbles in the quest name).

Almost like playing charge hit and run back in the days.
And that's a problem with the game, not with Asmongold. Zack isn't dumb enough to complicate things when it's not necessary. And MH is the worst game at explaining the finer details of how to play anyway.

imma drop a context bomb not many ppl mentioned about MHW and perhaps being forgotten by many here since it was almost 6 years since the game launched:
1. when Capcom released MHW in Jan 2018, for a whole year every month since then, they drip fed new contents. new monsters to hunt, new armors/weapons to grind, new cosmetics, etc. deviljho and lunastra you watched in this video were the post launch DLC content example.
2. no, it was not an "incomplete game" at launch, it was the whole content you watched asmon playing it until xeno jiiva in this video (it's a whole fuckin week asmon posted lmao), and then so much more. there was already an endgame content that asmon didn't play where you can keep playing/grinding to power creep your character if you choose to.
3. the drip fed content weren't small ones as well, it was all a "meaty" content. at least 1 new monster you can grind. and every other month, there were a very meaty content, for example a totally new elder monster and hunt mode where it was never been released before namely kulve taroth. cross collaboration with FFXIV was also one meaty content where you need to team up with full team to hunt Behemoth, with a slightly altered gameplay to mimic how raid boss is being done in FFXIV. the reward for this: you could create dragoon's Drachen armor and the famous Gae Bolg spear as Insect Glaive weapon.
4. on top of that, they also do a seasonal content where they do a cosmetic changes with the gathering hub. as shown in previous video where asmon shown, the gathering hub currently is in "winter theme" to commemorate winter holiday season. and there were also event quests where you can do to get cosmetics/armors to accompany the seasonal content.
5. to make things interesting, there were timely event where the kulve taroth hunt were only available for 2 weeks and it were gone for another 2 weeks and it returned back. this is still true til today.
6. there were also other funny/goofy content where they do collaboration with Horizon Zero Dawn where you can create Aloy armor and Aloy's hunter bow, collaboration with The Witcher as mentioned where you could hunt Lechen and play as Geralt and create armor that looks like Ciri (not Ciri armor, but Ciri lol), and other goofy collab from Capcom's IP like Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, and Megaman
best of all:
(the content, not the expansion)
3. this has been the case for past Monster Hunter title where they always give post launch content every month. still hold true with Rise and Sunbreak, though unfortunately the contents were less interesting and less meaty with World and Iceborne. of course, we can expect the same will also happen with Wilds when they release in 2025 and with its expansion
It's astounding to see how much this game changes if played with grappling claw from beginning. BACK IN MY DAY...
I really didn't expect him to commit to this game, I honestly thought he'd make a few goofy attempts and talk about how janky the game was.. but he actually played.. and god damn, I think we made a monster hunter fan out of him, looking forward to iceborne, yall better get him on that shit.
tackle is like guarding (Hyper armor) while you Charging your atk
it can be use to Monster roar too

and it can follow up with TCS
and it is a short cut move to get too TCS faster too .
It's the most importance thing in Great sword.

He finally beat the tutorial Pog
For wall banging monsters
1) You must have some kind of ammo in your slinger
2) The monster alert must be yellow icon, red icon mean they are enraged. You can see Alert Status on the mini map on monster icon.
3) You must clutch claw to the monster and position on their head
4) Have the monster face a wall
5) Shoot slinger and bang
There are other things to mention but that is the jist of it
The deeper you get into Monster Hunter, the more the game expects you to use everything that is at your disposal.
Well he did ignore 95% of the information the game gives him so I expect watching him play Iceborne is going to be more of the same
Im sad he not did a lot of world content. at least few event quest with tempered monsters and colab ones.
Can’t believe this dude still doesn’t know how to do the most basic of stuff like cook meat or even open his hunters handbook. It’s by only sheer dumb luck and ignorant determination that’s got him this far but he’s starting to pay the price.

He actually said that he will play it. It's in 1:35:11
this is when the game goes downhill as you fight the same thing over and over and over again as you repeat the tedious and repetitive tasks such as eating, sharpening your weapon etc... as you have really no more sense of character progression.
This is why after a bit, no one plays the game anymore until they release new content unlike other grinding games like this like poe for examples where it's lowest count would still be 10s of thousands of players despite being a niche and a small marketing compare to AAA games.
