  • President Cyril Ramaphosa is poised to sign the National Health Insurance Bill into law. The Bill was initially presented to Parliament in August 2019, by the then Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize. The Bill has faced strong criticism from various political parties, businesses, and health practitioners over the years, although some sectors have welcomed it.
It took four years before the Bill was finally passed by the National Assembly after extensive public participation.

Many people are going to bed hungry. Why can't we have a National Food Insurance scheme (NFI)?. Is food not more important than medicine?

As I've heard, Ramaphosa is busy fixing Zumas mess in the past 5 years, but I don't see him fixing anything except bringing private sector to govern the country

The healthcare system in South Africa is in a dire state, primarily due to extensive corruption within the ANC, which has siphoned funds from the health sector for years. Despite their claims that these issues stem from 30 years ago, the reality is far more current and pressing. The government's new plan to dismantle private medical aids and redirect those funds into the public sector is alarming. Given the government's track record, there's a valid concern that these funds will disappear just as previous resources have. This move appears to be a desperate attempt by a struggling party to exploit the mostly unemployed population, extracting money that many simply don't have, to further enrich corrupt officials.

Can anyone talk about the latest numbers from the UN Refugee Council that say there are 3,000,000 (yes million) refugees in South Africa from Zimbabwe and a further 2,000,000 refugees from Mozambique. How do we pay NHI for these people? Get your house in order first before you make plans to BREAK more things!

We are a country of 57 million people. 32.9% of employable people are unemployed. Besides the R3.3 billion a month to covid 19 recipients, we also support the many welfare benefits. There are 7.14 million taxpayers in South Africa. No wonder industries are being liquidated. People are leaving our country and we have to pay more tax. What a failed government, corrupt leaders, and a shameful and disgraceful leader. So, based on the facts above, explain to me how this will be funded?

Exactly. The ANC is pathetic. They knew that there was a chance they'd lose the election, so they're pulling an irrational, populist move, with the intention of stealing money and getting extra votes under the guise of defending the poor.

Why is it so easy to push this bill through but any effort to do lifestyle audits is always thwarted and hard to get through parly?
    No prizes for guessing.
Everyone who doesn't contribute anything in South Africa gets free healthcare already. Taxpayers are already paying for it on top of paying for themselves.
What any serious government should have done is to first ask where the money already allotted to health was going. After identifying the ANC and its crooks as the destination of stolen funds they would then have forced anti-corruption laws with the same aggression as they are doing now. With monies being protected public health would improve.
But why do that when you can just bttfck taxpayers for more of their money to hide your own corruption.

True. They could instead improve the healthcare system by just using public funds sustainably and effectively, instead of looting and enriching themselves, sommer under the guise of defending the poor who they are actually oppressing.

So many people have no place to sleep. Why can't we have a National House Insurance (NHI) scheme? Is having a place to lay your head not more important than medicine to swallow?
