His story is actually very unfortunate when you think about it. In the very few video interviews of D’angelo out there, he comes off very reserved and shy. He is seemingly a musician at heart who would rather be recognized for the quality of his music than his physique. As iconic as the ‘Untiled’ video was, I believe he regrets it in some capacity. Valerie you are absolutely right.!! D' Angelo did not deal with Prince death well at all and i believe it sent him into a state of depression too. if you notice he has not been seen or heard of since the death of Prince..
D’angelo valued soul and substance over style. The “Untitled, How Does it Feel” video pinned him into a corner he never wanted to be in. The video made every other black man in music to grow braids and hit the gym (look it up). They could all mimic the look, but not the complexity and depths of his art. His idol was Prince and you can hear Prince’s influence all throughout his music. This man is an ARTIST, MUSICIAN, SONGWRITER, VOCALIST, etc...and he takes his art seriously. Had people not gravitated towards the wrong part of his image, he’d likely still look like he did, early in his career, but getting fat was just a big F-U to people who valued a package and not the art. I’m just a music fan. A neo soul fan. This man put his foot into his music like your mom did with collard greens, and people sexualizing him insulted his artistic vision. I miss music. The 80s and part of the 90s were the last age of real musical talent. It’s around now, but you have to search past all the garbage and music filler to get to it. I’m glad this was in my recommended list. I also apologize for being too garrulous, but I miss 45s spinning and the popping of the needle against the vinyl. Started at John F. Kennedy High School my mom told me stories of them being in the choir together. Her sitting right beside him at the piano mesmerized by his talents voice piano playing and the group formed by Mr Mc Callum and their many talent shows. Later my Great Aunt birthed a child with his uncle. DJ Magic (Richard Archer)
D'Angelo had sexy lips. He had a breakdown. His life reminds me of Marvin Gaye's life, cocaine addiction and plaqued by a religious background and father issues. Dang 300 pounds?!
I don't get why people are hating on Angie bc of what she looks like and how she got D? Just sad! People like who they like get over it!! What you think is a good look may not be for everybody else. Mind ya business. Anyways, peace and blessings
The fact that she's laying up with impressionable, barely of age men who may feel dependent and indebted to her for the "care" she provides as they acquire record deals through HER.... It's not just about looks. Women can be predators too.
Ro James reminds me of D’angelo. Lawd he was so fineeee❤️ his vocals were always on point. Praying he gets himself together because no one can have that much faith in you unless you have in yourself first. Its almost 2020 Love yourself people that goes for me as well I can’t sweep around someone else’s door if I don’t sweep mines first☝️
I forgot about him. Yes he has a very similar sound and style to D'Angelo. Ro James is one who has a future in this business and was doing well himself. I hope he credit guys like D'Angelo for his success and musical influence.
Michael Eugene Archer suffered from the industry. He was an artist and they tried to manufacture him to become more appealing. He and Eric Benet are my favorite artists. The difference between the two...Eric never compromised his love for THE MUSIC. Voodoo is one of the best albums ever created in life!
My aunt knew his grandfather and ran into D'Angelo and him at a store here in Richmond. She told him I was a huge fan and he did an autograph, but she said that he was very shy and really didn't want to be seen. But his grandpa made sure my aunt knew exactly who he was 😆
I'm so glad this video was did to let his fans know what was going on with him. I wondered so much over the years what had happened to him before 2015. I pray that he's in good health and spirit and is doing much better. I want him back on the music scene making great music. I miss that.
Why is there so many "he was great" comments. I still listen to Brown Sugar the album like it's the early 00's & I'm 26. All of D shit still slaps. He IS a fucking genius til this day! Tf.
He needs to pull a "Terence Trent D'Arby" disappearance. Fix himself in all ways (mental, spiritual, physical etc) and come back with a clean slate. Would be better for him to stay on the underground music scene though, just so he can be at peace without all the "viral and fame" noise.
That’s a very brilliant and not to mention artistic song, Charlie Hunter played the both the Bass and Guitar at the same time, with his 8 string 🎸. D’angelo has a lot of music in him, reading up on all the comments, I fully agree that super talented as he is, fame is just not for him period..
Wooh Angie Stone took him young...something about her work/dating situations are let's say interesting...she dated/worked with Calvin Richardson ..and even had Idris Elba on her case.
He was my ultimate man for years I would have taken him fat drunk or coked up but that height thing sent it all crashing. Still he's a musical genius and was a goddd in his prime
there was a documentary released about him last year (2019) it’s called “Devil’s Pie - D’Angelo”. Right at the end of it, D was singing in the studio, and it writes “D’Angelo is currently working on his 4th album” so the album is probably coming in a year or two ❤️
I love D'Angelo back in the day from the Broward Sugar album to the Black Messiah. Brilliant work from him. Poor D'Angelo. Over the years I read about the pitfalls in his life and my heart went out to him and still does. This is not an easy business to survive in. It's so easy for people to judge someone rather than to understand them. Fame can be a beast and not everyone can handle it well and it's obvious that he didn't handle being famous well. Praying for you D'Angelo. Even if the industry turns its back on you, the fans will always have your back and most of all God does too.
Angie Stone said in an interview with Cosmo UK the record company didn't allow D'Angelo to be seen with her in public because they were marketing him as a sex symbol, and their breakup loosely inspired the song No More Rain. I wasn't aware of the age gap though. 19 and 32? Bloody hell.
Wow.. he went through a lot and I understand the feeling of feeling like a piece of meat instead of a person . I’m sure Angie was very jealous and put him down and he just wanted to hide the pain forever. His talent is amazing and I hope he can make a comeback .
He was a game tester for red dead redemption 2, they gave him keys to the studio he would come in at night and play it. He also did the song unshaken, which is a masterpiece

Her sitting right beside him at the piano mesmerized by his talents voice piano playing and the group formed by Mr Mc Callum and their many talent shows. Later my Great Aunt birthed a child with his uncle. DJ Magic (Richard Archer)
How's he doing NOW
Tell him his fans still love him please
We need d'angelo BACK. Please dont be so self conscious. Your music is FIRE!!
D'Angelo had sexy lips. He had a breakdown. His life reminds me of Marvin Gaye's life, cocaine addiction and plaqued by a religious background and father issues. Dang 300 pounds?!
B
Cocaine and obesity don't match..
You ever peeped a fat crackhead??😳😅
@@marieajackson1148 No...it doesn't....I found that odd also....
Yeah but plaqued though..??
I don't get why people are hating on Angie bc of what she looks like and how she got D? Just sad! People like who they like get over it!! What you think is a good look may not be for everybody else. Mind ya business. Anyways, peace and blessings
The fact that she's laying up with impressionable, barely of age men who may feel dependent and indebted to her for the "care" she provides as they acquire record deals through HER....
It's not just about looks. Women can be predators too.
@Liquid Bijoux Indeed always has been that's the only point I'm trying to make
Real shit...😘✌
Her age is what makes it disgusting. Like why would she want a 19yr old?
@@mojadah10 Right! She has always prayed on very young black men & it didnt stop with him! Smh
Ro James reminds me of D’angelo. Lawd he was so fineeee❤️ his vocals were always on point. Praying he gets himself together because no one can have that much faith in you unless you have in yourself first. Its almost 2020 Love yourself people that goes for me as well I can’t sweep around someone else’s door if I don’t sweep mines first☝️
Yesssssss. Agreed. Same sound & style
Crystal Chandlier ❤️
Ro James remind me of Prince and D'Angelo
Nah ro is totally inspired by Prince
I forgot about him. Yes he has a very similar sound and style to D'Angelo. Ro James is one who has a future in this business and was doing well himself. I hope he credit guys like D'Angelo for his success and musical influence.
Didnt know he wrote "You will know" I've been listening to that for over 20 year's
*The last time 👀 I was this early... Puffy was "STILL" dancing ALL in, the video's* 😆👍💃🎵
😂😂😂
lmaooo!
*R😂tflmao!* 🎵💃
Michelle Martinez ⚰️⚰️⚰️
All I could see is Suge Knight when I read that 🤣
Michael Eugene Archer suffered from the industry. He was an artist and they tried to manufacture him to become more appealing.
He and Eric Benet are my favorite artists. The difference between the two...Eric never compromised his love for THE MUSIC.
Voodoo is one of the best albums ever created in life!
His music is who he is , I pray he finds his way back
He's still amazing, handsome and talented hope he graces us with his golden voices one day again soon💛
My aunt knew his grandfather and ran into D'Angelo and him at a store here in Richmond. She told him I was a huge fan and he did an autograph, but she said that he was very shy and really didn't want to be seen. But his grandpa made sure my aunt knew exactly who he was 😆
Poor DeAngelo I remember my sister and her friends were going crazy over that video. His voice was everything. May he allow God to be his guide. 🙏🏽
I'm So Sick of The Industry... NOT Acknowledging That Everybody's FU**ING HUMAN!!!
Wow I have always found him to be a musical genius. Come back brother. We need your soul in our ears again
I will wait till he’s fully recovered. His talent is worth it ❤️❤️❤️
I'm sorry but I screamed at "When he offered an undercover officer $40 for her services" Damn DeAngelo😁😁😁🤣
Bre Sams 😂
LMFAOOO meanwhile somewhere in the world. bishes poppin it open for $0
Bre Sams sh$t I do the same thing. Some people don't pay for their services 🤣🤣🤣
Really 😄he could've gotten that shit for free ... Like literally anywhere.
@@peanutsarecheap1997 I know! That's how you know De'Angelo was messed up at that time😂
One of the greatest artist to ever do it. I remember seeing him when I was 15 yo on his Voodoo tour. He was incredible!
Tf.
2019 We still and always will love ya D’angelo!!
This was such a good video... Good job Queen 🙌🏼👏🏼
Thank you Don!
He needs to pull a "Terence Trent D'Arby" disappearance. Fix himself in all ways (mental, spiritual, physical etc) and come back with a clean slate. Would be better for him to stay on the underground music scene though, just so he can be at peace without all the "viral and fame" noise.
My favorite D'Angelo song is The Root off of the Voodoo album... SONIC PERFECTION! Nothing sounded like it then or EVER!
Yaaaasssss!!!!!!!! #Facts!
YUP!!!!
You Will Know, is one of the most underrated songs ever.
He will bounce back give him time.
Wooh Angie Stone took him young...something about her work/dating situations are let's say interesting...she dated/worked with Calvin Richardson ..and even had Idris Elba on her case.
She got that motherly love lol.
Ni'Shara Thomas 😂
Idrissss? 💀
The Idris thing was for a music video right?
@@subzfit nope she says he wanted her ...but she turned him down
I almost choked on my mimosa when she said 5ft 7
😂😂
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He was my ultimate man for years I would have taken him fat drunk or coked up but that height thing sent it all crashing. Still he's a musical genius and was a goddd in his prime
I got bedding taller than that🙊 he still fine tho
D’angelo was finer in early days. his music always timeless.❤️
I hope he knows we love him....
We named our grandson after him, Kyroe D'ANGELO Matthews. Beautiful bundle of joy.
Tian Matthews my mother named my first born D’Angelo lol what’s up with y’all and D’Angelo ❤️❤️❤️
Don't just consume their music, PRAY for them! Being a minstrel puts you on the frontline of warfare. This thing is spiritual and it's no joke.
there was a documentary released about him last year (2019) it’s called “Devil’s Pie - D’Angelo”. Right at the end of it, D was singing in the studio, and it writes “D’Angelo is currently working on his 4th album”
so the album is probably coming in a year or two ❤️
Still playing HOW DOES IT FEEL!!!
Angie knew that dam baby didn't know life yet, shows her her true colors, that's why I laughed so hard at rnb divas, that dam saleena Johnson😂😂😂😂,
So we just gonna act like young D'Angelo dont look like Marshawn Lynch......
Nahh they really do!!
So beautiful and talented! I just want the best for him 😭😭😭
That Nene clip made me holler, literally!
LOL!! Glad you enjoyed it 😂
😂😂👌👌
I love D'Angelo back in the day from the Broward Sugar album to the Black Messiah. Brilliant work from him. Poor D'Angelo. Over the years I read about the pitfalls in his life and my heart went out to him and still does. This is not an easy business to survive in. It's so easy for people to judge someone rather than to understand them. Fame can be a beast and not everyone can handle it well and it's obvious that he didn't handle being famous well. Praying for you D'Angelo. Even if the industry turns its back on you, the fans will always have your back and most of all God does too.
I love this video. Very classy to the point not a lot of gossip great job
Thanks for watching 🙂
RealRealityGossip I shared this video and look forward to watching more 🥰
'Lady' will always be my jam!!!
That was a good one....i miss d'angelo...need that voice back on the radio!!👍💯
He also played in the NFL...Running Back, Seahawks. He went BEAST MODE.
Wow didn’t know all that happened.. very informative video
Hope you are well and happy, thanks for the great albums!!!
Yup we heard that same rumor. They didn’t think she fit his image.
Just ridiculous!
I heard No More Rain was a tribute to their son
Love me some "D'Angelo"
The guy is a musical genius...
unmistakably range vocals ,all around talent, whew Lawd on fire! 🎶
A Singer's life...
Bro talented af.. Grew up on his music
D'Angelo is musically talented and gifted. I pray that he produces another album. His voice is phenomenal.
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... give praise it’s gonna be alright 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Wow.. he went through a lot and I understand the feeling of feeling like a piece of meat instead of a person .
Brothers was a talented artist ...he personal life is his personal life...I bought his first album when I was 15...did not disappoint
Angie you shouldnt have been dating a teenager anyway. You were 30 plus yrs old! As far as Dangelo he had substance abuse problems before the fame. Fame just made it worse.
K like Marvin Gaye he has daddy issues with a minister dad and a Pentecostal background.
K how do you know that?
They both were adults and of age to date. Men date and marry younger women and no one blink an eye.
@@missdesireindependance5194 so if your a 32 year old woman you wouldnt mind laying up with a 19 yr old boy?🤔...dats nasty sis
cbon88 personally I prefer older men but some women prefer younger men and as long as they are 18 I don’t see nothing wrong with it.
Angie was like, "So you say you're in your prime. Baby, don't waste your time."
