I remember when turning 2 used to be fun on both ends. As the runner, you'd slide into 2nd base to break up the play, and then part of the challenge when turning the double play as a second baseman or shortstop involved throwing it while also getting out of the way of the runner trying to take you out. I say bring it back, and bring back home plate collisions while you're at it. Just like fights in hockey make it more exciting, so did breaking up double plays and home plate collisions

Isn't it 2nd base's job to get out of legal slide path and would be illegal play if the slide follows the fielder? That slide looks dirty but is not changing path to hit him as base and the fielder was in same line basically.

I will never understand why baserunners are allowed to slide right at the ankles of the second baseman. Whenever I ask a baseball fan no one can ever give a legitimate reason besides that's how it has always been.

I've had three ACL surgeries over the years from playing basketball. NONE of them happened due to anyone playing dirty. But knowing the rules of baseball today - and watching what happened....... if I was the second baseman, that runner would be needing stitches on his face from my spikes. (yes - I realize his dirty, possibly career ending slide was technically legal today)

Hoskins was absolutely out but he still aimed his stretched left leg and foot to spike McNeil's ankle with full force. That looked somewhat intentional without any regard for potential injury. Those ankle injuries are risky and we're glad McNeil was fine. He is the one who faced that risk and therefore has the right to disagree with Hoskins. Let's move on.

Benches clear and they have a meeting. Nothing happened. Sending someone to the hospital for doing that would be a clearer message. He had the ball in his hand and could have drilled the runner at point blank range.
