ugh - Ed was at his roughest here... still miss him tho.
Hard not to notice😢😢
Yea he was on some hard stuff and Alot of it
@@user-jy5uy5nl2yHe was drinking heavily at this time, after his marriage ended. The treatment he had for his tongue/throat cancer seriously damaged his teeth. He spoke a bit differently because he lost 1/4 of his tongue. Then all the alcohol sure didn't help. He was also very thin at this time. Serious alcoholics rarely eat properly. But he eventually turned it around & his new teeth were amazing, highlighting his magnificent smile!
He went to rehabilitation on the 07' - 08' tour and for the rest of his life was off the booze! Thank God! ❤❤❤ Miss ya Ed! ❤❤❤
He looked soo tweaked out at that time.
if eddie says one humbucker at the bridge gives us the best tone...thats all i need to hear
Alan Holdsworth is also a master at what he does, and very happy with just a bridge humbucker.
My all time favorite guitar master 😊
Van Halen The most ultimate Rock Band of all time R.I.P EVH
living in an era where we get to see what a musical genius was like as a man.
The tone that changed rock!
In the 80s we all got cheap strats and got electric tape to do the franken strat look..Rip Eddie. 👍🎶
My brother in law did it with an acoustic.
He just sold it to someone else who appreciated it.
😂😂😂 Not all of us
Nope. Just went for the jr's and specials. TV and Cherry.
😊 Thanks Eddie for all you inspired us to do!!
Unbelievable innovation and ability....🤟🤟✌️❤
Only the master miss u
Eddie was a genius!
HE WAS NOT
YOU KNOW WHY???HE WOULD OF STAYED OFF OF DRUGS.HE HAD A GREAT WIFE AND SON.SORRY I DISSAGREE?
@@user-of8ms9vw6j In Music Genius..
@@user-of8ms9vw6j Eddie was a musical genius. He was not a saint. We all fall short of the grace of God. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
@@user-of8ms9vw6j: Drugs wasn't Eddie's problem bright one. Alcohol and 3 packs of ciggs a day was. Be that as it may, Eddie was without a doubt a genius. As the great Les Paul said: Eddie changed things.
they didn't make what he wanted to he made it himself . just like all the greats
High as kite much Ed? Great story and we all miss you! RIP ED
My thoughts exactly lol. There's plenty of rock stars but Ed was the one and only ROCK STAR.
I heard or read a story about the guy who eventually became EVH's guitar tech. He was describing the thought process behind how he set his guitar up. Pretty interesting.
Whatever you say SPANKY 🤡
Eddies Frankenstein guitar is what gave me the inspiration for my headless franken Z guitar made from left over parts or throw away guitars but i kept messing with it changing it now its a high gain machine
Your music lives on! 🎸 I live in Hudson Valley NY and our rock station WpdH 101.5 FM plays Van Halen everday sometimes 2 to 3 times a day! This week everday @ 3pm they play 3 Van Halen songs in a row for the 3 o'clock rock block! Miss you Eddie!🎸❤️🩹
GREATEST BAND THAT WALKED PLANET EARTH. GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN R.I.P.
God bless you, Eddie. I never knew how great you were until you were gone.
THE KING .
I like to hear some of those tones he was chasing from his vault of music
Without a doubt Eddie was a pioneer , changed music.
We are so fortunate to be able to have musicians like this people that can like he says chase tones and try to create different guitar builds that produce different kinds of sound that that is a gift. There are probably a lot of musicians, but guys like Jimi Hendrix and others that just seem to be interested in seeing what they can get out of an instrument and having an ear for that.. I almost left out Peter Frampton or dick in the Dell tones. I probably left some out, but these are the ones I’ve heard.
Thanks Eddie. I sure miss you and keep you close to my heart! I imagine where you would be if not for the illness that took you from all of us.
RIP EDDIE
He actually recorded a lot of the first album with his Ibanez destroyer
God bless you, Eddie. Its a better world because of you ❤
King Edward!!!! Sadly Missed.😢
LEGEND
To hear him talk about how he thinks... its just so cool. Insight of a master
RIP
Saw Eddie and 💎Dave twice....epic that
Yeesh this was during the dark times. I'm glad he straightened out during his final years. He looked like a retired marine drill instructor during the final VH reunion.
That guitar is worth millions now
Jimi Hendrix ❤ Eddie Van Halen ❤✌
I love him.
Beautiful ❤
He was LIT then
Eddie, the genius innovator.
Eddie said the magic words ruining a lot of stuff to get what he wants.
Huge name in music
All about the tone of the fuckstick how cool
RIP legend
To me he was very ,very very good
Now worth millions
"I do know where I want to get, but sometimes I ruin alot of stuff getting there."
He knew what he wanted to get...very cool.
Drunk as hell. Best ever guitarist.
pay attention kids ........"always the rear pickup"
He was hammered, just like we were. Some of us couldn't afford slow motion suicide like Eddie. So sad he could. Can you imagine all the music getting stoned robbed us of?
He’s so high in this video.
Evh was the best ❤
So what he's saying is Frankenstein only cost him a $130 to put 2 parts of the guitar together. And it's worth millions today.
Genius.
I mostly use the back pickup too
The brown sound
❤❤❤
The best to do it...
People closest to him are to blame to an extent. #facts ❤
It still cracks me up that that first ground breaking famous sound on the first album wasn't even "That" guitar. On every song that didn't require a whammy bar,,,was an Ibanez!! Lol!!
World's most successful tone-chaser.
The master
this is the point where Eddie turned into Neal Degrasse Tyson
He sure looks like he’s been through a lot. RIP
EVH lives!!!
🎶🎶🎶🎶🎸👏👏👏👏💫💜🙏
His mom was Indonesian so he was half Indonesian also...He even looked more Indonesian than he did Dutch.
He recorded the first album with a white explorer
From just the first picture, I thought this was about the carpenters.
It’s hard to think. PAGE, BLACKMORE, TOWNSEND, RICHARDS, SIKES, FREHLY, IOMMI, WALSH, CLAPTON, J.PERRY, FRAMPTON, and GIBBONS are all still alive and most are still touring, but Ed is gone.
The greatest from the Netherlands. Who is the greatest from Germany?
Uli Jon Roth is the best German guitarist imo 🙌
So much is said about EVH'S Dutch background, but nothing about his Asian Mother!THAT'S where that insane work ethic factored in from the brothers Van Halen.
Mathias Jabs 😂
@@rudygracia5573!! Wow, did not know this…curious to dig deeper now. RIP EVH.
The Schenker brothers are badass
What I don’t get is today people frown upon parts guitars yet Eddie’s most famous guitar was a part’s guitar 🤷♂️ shows how most all people hear with what brand they see on the headstock.
Boomchickawowow.
The Frankie guitar is basically a broke kid’s journey to getting himself a playable instrument.
This is eddie when he was addicted
One of the greatest showman
Champ
God I miss him 🥺😊😢 oh dutchboy ...me too...1/2 dutch n deygo 😂😂😂🎸🔥💥⚡💥🔥🎸🎸🎸🎸☮️♾️✝️😎
Ed as well as many other talented musicians tested the bad side of stardom, may god bless them in the other side…….
HE IS TRULY MISSED
Half Dutch/Asian
La vida es injusta con los grandes seres humanos
He basically wanted a PRS lol
R.I.P. Eddie😂
Eddie I guess did not realize, he was the tone…😢
Completely amazing but if he only wanted the Strat for the wammy bar and doesn't use the single coil pickup, wouldn't it have been easier to just put a wammy bar on a gibson?
He wanted a Strat body because it's lighter and more comfy than a Gibson Les Paul .
@@user-rt9zq8rs9k ok. that is true.
A Genius and a Drunk ,who woulda thought???
Nobody's perfect, everyone has a downfall , he inspired a lot of people in his lifetime, what did you do ?
@@johnriggle8576 failed at all
Your r return comment ment alot didn't mean harm alit of people can be genius and have a habit I guess I was both just couldn't combine the two and addiction had the upper hand . Eddie was one of ,not many cook dude thanx
Do I sound stupid pointing out Eddie and Alex are half Asian?
I always thought he played Kramers after this.
Eddie was not in good health when that video was made
Sad to see him like this.
Yeah. He was having a rough time back then.
Charvel did him wrong
Damn, he's so messed up here
So , $130 in 1974 adjusted for inflation, would be $809.67 today
He was so messed up here.😂 He's high AF!
Yeah. He was having a rough time back then.
Kills me to see Eddie do this to himself. .My friend and bamd mate was an amazing talent and OD'd. I hate it. People just need to leave that crap alone in thd first place.
Eddie Van Heroin baby!
I rmemeber going to guitar center 1980 with my parents and there were the charvel EVH guitars they were selling for over 900 USD!! I wanted one aoo bad but luckily my parents said no. What a rip off.
The Charvels were rip-offs of his design . That's why he added red to his Frankie
The fact he never had Gibson make him a cool guitar amazes me. I had one of those Peavey Wolfgang in the 90's. What a clunky piece of crap. Seems like PRS could have made him something cool at one point
Gibson didn't do Strat type guitars very well.A Strat(in Ash or Alder)with single bridge humbucker and a Floyd whammy is the ONLY real EVH style guitar.
@rudygracia5573 True.
but wasnt the first version of this the music man axis? cuz that is probably the nicest feeling electric guitar i’ve ever played
ie maybe the problem is peavey’s manufacturing, not the specs themselves
Les Paul himself gave Ed a model with a whammy bar .
He's American not Dutch
He was born in Amsterdam.
He wasn't born in America, and neither of his parents was from America.
Can’t be Dutch- Anercian or something? Sheesh
@@RockNewsQuickies I stand corrected
