    I wish you would have shown the inside of the amp. Seeing the inside of any ham equipment is one of the most important things before making any purchase.

    I've been to a contest station in Russia that ran a 10+ kW amp. Back then only 1 kW was permitted. LOL.
    BTW, I push my Acom1000 to about 1200 watts all the time. No big deal, especially on SSB. GU-74b tubes are cheap, especially if you get them in Russia. Got me 2 new spares for $100. The original tube is 7 years old but still runs strong.

      The new 4CX800A needs 240 Ma bias and not 230 anymore. Btw where did you get your tubes from. Link. Overhere in EU the retailers asking € 500 euro per piece. Thats why Acom is not very popular anymore. Very pricey tube.

      @@africantwin173 I got them directly from Russia for $50 each. Just had to be patient and ask around. I speak fluent Russian.
      Right now a seller from Russia has them on Ebay for $179 each, free shipping. Search for GU-74B tube instead of 4CX800a. It's what's used in the ACOM-1000 amps. Those GU-74 tubes are made to Soviet Military standards. Very high quality.

    Just bought this amp, paired to an Icom 7300 - had to set a 10ms tx delay on the radio setting to prevent “hot switching” error on the amp.

      works like a charm but to keep your tube healthy run max 750 to 800 watts on 27mhz fm. an extra cooling fan is recommended for the power supply

    Iam shopping for a new amp this one seems more head room than the acom 800 watt model. And you dont have to worry about the tube in the 800 watt model i never hit them hard i run it 800 watts with out worrying about tube working to hard that amp will last me a lifetime

    Question please I saw where your key went into the amplifier. But you did not show exactly exactly where it came off of your radio. Your words were sort of muffled and I could not tell. I’m having trouble because I have a I come 7100 and I’m not sure the exact connection on how to come out of my radio before it goes to the Key in on the amplifier.
    If you could help somehow I would appreciate it thank you so much

    How much RF Output power do you get on 28MHz when using 5 and 10 Watt rf drive in power. My end fed can only handle 250 max. Need to replace the ft240- 43 with something bigger.

    • @brentonmeadowsvk3cm
      @brentonmeadowsvk3cm  4 года назад +1

      With 10 watts drive, I would think around 300 to 400 watts, but would need to test to be 100% accurate. I may be being a bit optimistic and 250 to 350w is more likely with 10 watts, especially on 10m, but next time I have one on the bench, I will drop some comments on this page for sure with more of an accurate report. Cheers Brenton VK3CM

    Just noticed the front of your amplifier reads up to 1200w where as all the amplifiers I have seen only read up to 1000??? Is this different for the Australian market?

  • @bigliftm
    @bigliftm Год назад

    who is checking? just run the power. signal wise it will not do it. but i experimented with high power a lot. 5 watts ... made it arround my country ( using psk reporter ) did the same test over and over until 1 Kw. with the power up each time my signal reached further over the globe ! so not signal wise but distance wise !!! and yes i HATE qrp preachers... working here with an Alpine 100 hf amp with a gu74b. works like a charm. will never ever sell it!

    It's pretty confusing trying to weigh the 1000, the 1500 and the 2100. The 1000 is the cheaper tube, and it gets really confusing with the 1500 vs the 2100 which are the same tube. My main concern isn't max power out honestly, it's durability at higher duty cycle at say 800W output on the high side. Dealing with arcing at higher power levels is a pain.
    Do you have any wisdom on the 4CX800 vs the 4CX1000 for durability? I'm kind of assuming that the 1500 or 2100 will tolerate more higher duty cycle (long winded digi mode) runs better than the 1000 but I just really don't know. Quite a lot of money difference as well as tube replacement cost diff too. When I say long duty cycles, I'm talking running say 200W - maybe 500W on digi modes that are high duty cycle, like Olivia or Domino on low bands.

    • @brentonmeadowsvk3cm
      @brentonmeadowsvk3cm  4 года назад +1

      no thats a very wise comment and duty cycle with the acoms is definitely very good as we have used them in a number of commercial purposes at some pretty incredible duty cycles. Like all brands of amps, they do have there breaking point so heat monitoring is essential with heavy duty cycle usage.

      The GU-74b (4CX800) tubes are very robust and relatively cheap, compared to Eimacs. The production facility was originally designed for military production. Quality control is far superior to what's found in regular consumer products. I've built and used several amps with these tubes. All were very robust and solid performers.
