  • Hey guys!
    Fuzz is my favorite, and can be glorious, but at times can't be tricky and act up depending on your amp, the settings, and what is inline..
    But ultimately, its all right there for you to dial in, just need some time and patience.
    Here are some tips, and maybe you can apply this to your current "at home"setup, or any setup for that matter... the process is the same!
    enjoy and thanks to everyone for checking out the video!

    Killer tutorial, Nik. You’re giving away “the secret” right here. Haha. It takes some people years of playing to stumble onto this tone technique. I was one of those people until Philip helped me out thru FB Messenger about 5-6 years ago when I asked him how to get more glassiness out of my clean tone. Still can’t believe he replied to me but he was so gracious with his knowledge...just like you are being here in this video. Take notes everyone...this is how you dial in great tone. 🙏🏻

    It is really liberating and eye opening to get all of your gain stages from glassy clean to nuclear meltdown with just the volume knob on your guitar instead of tap dancing on a bunch of different pedals. It actually took EJ a while to figure this out.

    Have you tried to run your fuzz into a pedal like a blues driver? The blues driver has a lot of headroom but when the fuzz hit it you can change the tone of the fuzz with the blues driver it takes some of that harshness away. I've run a lot of fuzz this way. Even my big muff nano fuzz sounds good like this. Worth a try

    Still a very good video. You have a great way of explaining and teaching TONE! I watch lots of guitar related vids. And YOU ! I completely understand, plus every thing you play I hear SRV. My church of guitar playing since 1998.

    Nick, thank you for this! What a great tutorial and tone. Matt Schofield has also a really great way to Setup any pedal / amp: Turn the knobs to the point, where you recognize the greatest change in tone. Works for me good with all my gear.

    Nick love the videos man. I recently scored 2 pedals I think you dig #1the old red Dunlop Fuzz face from the early 1990s. Killer NKT275 tones just amazing at a good price but you probably know that. The next one is a Phoenix Custom Electronics Ranger Treble booster. Killer clone of the Diaz Square face for like 100 bucks. Huge tones out of my blackface super reverb and usually i never use a rangemaster type circuit with fender amps and guitars.

    Very cool topic. I have a 5e3 clone, and dig Fuzzface (I’m using a Jesse Davies Mini Fuzz Ge). Looking for the full range of Fuzz sounds, from Little Wing to Doyle...not too ambitious, right? Thanks for showing how you dial in the base amp tone, so important. Great seeing you dial everything in.
    Fuzzface is so interactive, it’s easy to get lost trying to dial in the sauce!
    Regrettably, I have to play through a Strymon Iridium with headphones most of the time...not nearly as satisfying, and doesn’t quite work? COVID-19 reality with 3 people in a small apartment.
    --
    Update: these tweeks are making my Strymon sound better! Taking the time dial in gear the right way yields better results.
    Thanks again!

    What's the best cheaper fuzz for Hendrix sounds? I've been looking at Fulltone '70 and '69. Authentic Dallas Arbiter and a lot of boutique pedals are too expensive for me.

    Thanks for the video. Getting a good fuzz tone with my amp has been challenging. Most of my circuits are bass heavy (fender bassan, marshall JMP 50 clones, mesa lonestar) and when I drive the amp I'm having issue with muddiness, control and tryin got get that singing sustain leads Jimi does in Voodoo Chile SR. I think what would be really great is to do a how to get the tone video for the iconic Hendrix/SRV tones in terms of walking us through all the various guitar/amp/fuzz settings for each sound. In your Ep8 Dallas Arbiter video you had these tones nailed. Maybe you could do the same thing except demonstrate the settings etc. Also, I was wondering if you would be able to give me a lesson online to help me get these tones with my rig. Paid of course! Thanks man!

    • @theriffwniksevigny5473
      @theriffwniksevigny5473  4 года назад

      Its really the volume aspect at that point. The more volume from the amp. The better the cleanup or od tone

    • @JimmyDevere
      @JimmyDevere 4 года назад

      @@theriffwniksevigny5473 thanks man. It seems like with my bass heavy circuits it tends to get muddier and bassier as you get louder. I dont have any noise constraints except my ears, and I do play at various levels all the way up to 10 if necessary. but i did make a lot of improvement over the weekend thinking about this video and your other videos. I made some adjustments to the trimmer pot in my sunface, out on some new and brighter strings ( I didn't realize the old strings were sucking tone at that level) fixed my tone cap in my guitar that was broken etc. Also, I just emailed Jerry and will be buying the wah kit. Thanks for all the tips Nik. BTW, I'm an intermediate player but I want to take it to the next level. I think a few lessons here and there would help. Maybe just once every month or two. You know just give some tone and technique tips, not hold my hand or anything. Maybe we can work something out if it's worth it to you. I have a music degree in voice and sang pro so I am used to working with professionals. take care

  • @Jordan-rb28

    So what's the advantage to rolling the volume off on the fuzz face? I'm still confused, if you turn it down it still doesn't push the amp's power tubes does it?

    • @ericskinner7355
      @ericskinner7355 2 года назад +4

      Some pedals do it better than others, but the advantage is with the fuzz up all the way you can get clean to nuclear meltdown with just the volume knob on your guitar instead of stepping on a bunch of pedals. Takes a little getting used to, but once you do you don't have to stay glued to your pedal board.

    Cool video. For srv, and I the pics I’ve studied, it appears he went into the fuzz face followed my tubescreamer. Every time I try that, it seems like my tuberscreamer cannot handle the fuzz load. Any experience with that?

    • @CorbCorbin

      I use a TS style pedal after a BC108 Fuzz Face sometimes.
      It’s a Pale Horse by VFE, and has high and low cut pots, so it’s a bit easier to sculpt the mids I’m trying to add.
      I keep the gain on the TS at almost nothing, volume to boost the signal, and turn the Fuzz knob back a little more than if I used a Marshall in a box type is pedal after it.
      My best results come with a Dirty Little Secret(think the V3), after the Fuzz Face. It’s going to depend on whether you’re using a germanium or silicon transistor Fuzz Face, and how it’s biased, to know what will work best to run after it.
