In this installment of Essential Classical Music, I cover the consensus reference recordings of the major Wagner works. This video is taken from my larger video covering the consensus reference recordings of the core classical music repertoire.
    Featured works:
    Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg
    Parsifal
    Der Ring des Nibelungen
    Tristan und Isolde

I think you can look at this from another perspective, that of great Wagner conductors, and two you missed were Karajan and Kempe, both of whom made outstanding recordings. Karajan's Parsifal is co-reference to Kna's, and his Ring with the Berlin Phil is superb for the part played by the Berlin Phil, recently remastered. Not sure why you missed Lohengrin and Tannhauser.

Would love to see a part 2 featuring Lohengrin, Tannhauser and Der fliegende Holländer.

For a mono Meistersinger that's also highly-regarded by critics, I'd nominate Rudolf Kempe with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1956... if you can get a copy! It's ironic that the two best Meistersingers of the mono/stereo era (Kempe/Kubelík) can be so hard to find :)
