Guys, it’s not that uncommon to forget your first language, especially when you have little reason to use it in life. Give her a break.
I'm Brazilian, live in Brazil, and sometimes I forget words in Portuguese cause I don't have a lot of conversations and mostly play games and watch movies and series in English and anime in Japanese
Lol you're capping bro if your family is speaking the language theres no way you can forget
@@letoucan0181her father was never around, mother had to speak English so that her English gets better and Brie can speak it fluently too
I'm an indian but i only know hindi, while my mom knows rajasthani languages, it's not that uncommon, chill
@@typicalnerd4065 think he was referring to the person above with the portuguese
Yeah I've had a similar experience
Language is definitely a “use it or lose it.” skill.
But if you learn it when you are a child, you can spontaneously learn it easily much more than an adult. And you can maintain it when you use it even little by little like we can see many people who have diverse native languages
linguistics major here! language rejection is sadly a very common phenomenon in the US, especially among first generation americans of foreign born parents! it’s even more common if only one of your parents speaks the language. the same thing happened to me with spanish, it was my first language but by like brie, by grade school i didn’t want to/had less opportunities to speak it!
THANK YOU, I was looking for a smart comment.
The haters of Brie Larson have reached a peak where they will even troll her for literally breathing heavily
IMO they've gone TOO FAR. Can someone PLEASE stop this cyberbullying, and cyberbullying in general?
Yes, it sounds like a personal attack 😊
@@sodium285never seen an actor hated so dispropotionately
This is a completely normal situation. Agree that she needs English much more than French. Of course, haters, you, as always, need to find a reason to condemn Brie Larson, but calm down, this case happens to many. I love her, she's very sweet.
She’s made some questionable statements over the years, but calling her stupid over this, which is something that happens to people who migrate all the time, is just nonsensical.
I loved the part where Brie speaks french
This comment section is about people complaining about people complaining
Tbf most comment sections are like this
Brie Larson says she forgets her first language -
Whole comment section says she's stupid
I bet none of you would be saying the same thing if this video was of a celebrity you "liked".
This is how every comment section about Brie is, always calling her stupid 😐, I love Brie I think she’s great. But some ppl don’t realize that first language doesn’t always mean the one you have spoken fluently your whole life, it just means she learned French before English.
@@sinjinyte well she did that to herself with her egocentric all about her bullsht ... nobody likes people who are like that ;) and thats exactly why i cant stand her ... no matter what she does
She’s not stupid as people say, it’s terrible how people portray her, they just take what she say out of context and also mince up her video speech to make it look offensive!
It’s terrible..she’s lovely and endearing!
@@ingra888 honestly I hate people who default to hate / liking something for one reason or another and don't allow their opinion to budge, or even let both the good and bad sides of a person coexist. It's unrealistic and every coin has 2 sides, but people really want to only show 1.
It’s disgusting that people are calling her stupid when she’s one of the most intelligent actors out there. She’s very well spoke, keeps herself educated and also reads a lot of books.
So unbelievably beautiful. Crazy
shes alright
@@Flugs0😂
Beautiful? Imao
She is so cute ❤
As a first generation Latin American I use my English way more and haven’t forgotten my first language but my mind thinks in English’s so it’s sort of dying. I keep it alive by not being so hard on myself for knowing 2 languages and speaking it whenever I can
My family has told me that I was able to speak our language, Igbo, for a time when I was a very young child. When we (all of us except my eldest sister) visited my grandmother in Nigeria (I was 2 at the time) we stayed for quite some time. During that time, my grandmother only spoke to me in Igbo. And so, when I returned to the US, my big sis couldn’t understand me because I only spoke Igbo. But, Dad never spoke to me in Igbo. To this day (I’m 38), Dad has never tried to speak one sentence to me in Igbo. So, with none of my friends, classmates, or my dad speaking to me in the language…the knowledge of the language wasn’t retained.
A shame .....
I've had the same thing happen to me. I was told that I spoke fluent Tagalog (my first language), but when I moved to Canada, I lost it, as nobody I knew in school spoke Tagalog. I could understand it, as it was used in my household, but I primarily spoke English back.
By the time I met someone my age who could speak Tagalog, it was already too late and I wasn't able to speak it confidently and without an accent. It's really embarrassing, people would poke fun of my accent when I spoke Tagalog, which further discouraged me from trying to speak it. Even my own mother told me to speak English when I tried to speak Tagalog. It was super embarrassing, people should be more encouraging about these things, shouldn't they?
You’re right; people should definitely be a lot more encouraging. If you still want to regain your language, I hope that you have not given up because of discouragement from others. Keep going. It doesn’t matter if they don’t approve of your accent.
i didnt know she was french canadian !
Brie Larson is lovely.
This is my whole life explained by another person
What a very beautiful, very intelligent lady.
ROFL
i swear y’all like to attack brie larson for literally everything. oh she forgets a language she only knew for a few years in her VERY EARLY childhood but then learned English to match her demographic. god forbid she does literally anything and y’all are wanting her to step down from her role of captain marvel
😂😂 she is much more relatable now
Brie Larson est une femme magnifique. J'ai adoré la regarder dans le premier Captain Marvel.
Same thing happened to my mum but in Spanish. She is Nigerian but used to live in Venezuela.
Brie I am also a native French speaker born and raised in Montréal with extended family in Québec City, and Provence, France.I wish you had mentioned this at Legends. I would love to tutor you and your children anytime you are in Vancouver.Your friend, Simonne Marie Thérèse.❤
It's the parents fault for not talking in french eith her.
My maternal grandmother could speak fluent French, but her husband’s family gave her grief about it, so she stopped. I wish I could go back and spend a summer with her. She was a teacher and would have been excited to teach her own granddaughter. Now I’m taking Duolingo, and it’s really slow to learn that way. If you grow up with a language, it’s a gift - even if it’s your second language.
Ok so that was her looooong version of NO! She doesnt speak french.
That's not interesting and defeats the purpose of this segment
When I was in the 1st grade I stopped speaking my first language too. Now I watch home videos and don't understand anything I'm saying
These are the white versions of the no sabo kids lol.
If i was french canadian i would also forget it and move to a place where they speak a superior language.
Wow... it's amazing that her first language was French, but also a shame that she lost it.
Everyone's being a knight in shining armour against haters hating on the fact she doesn't know french anymore, but I can't find a single negative comment to that effect. Talk about tilting at windmills.
Guys...her dad is from Manitoba 🤦🏽♀️ She's not québécoise
It makes sense. She “spoke” French til she was probably 6 years old. Which is barely level 1 in a high school class. 6 year olds can barely read, can barely count to 200. So it’s like she never really knew French 🤷🏻♀️
Gosh she looks like a young Cybill Shepherd
My childhood friend was French and her parents only spoke French so I learned it but today I remember none of it. 😂
So it's more "oui mais non" than "non mais oui".
WOuld only make sense if she actually moved out of quebec
How many cigratee buds they you use
William Chatner would say he has the same issue than her.
As an American would say Blue Soccer! Or Sock grey blue either one really
Her voice is cute
My ex misread names, such as Hébert and Milton.
My ex = Australia.
Duolingo will steal her family
"Oh non mais oui" respectez nous un peu !
Can a person give civil service exam in french?
Me with German.
So, no, she doesn't speak French.
My first language was German
Une belle Québécoise!
My ex know-it-all
She still got it in her, I believe
her name is a creamy cheese.
She's kind of dorky lol. But I'm definitely not the biggest fan of American women in general
As much as I dislike her, she’s not stupid for this. It’s fairly common I’d say
Why dislike? I liked her in 21 Jump Street and she's so pretty! She seems funny too.
Sad but a reality
Im the only one who feels that her eyes are looking directly into your soul? Wtf..
Yeah sooo she doesnt speak fench..
So, no.
C'est pourtant pas compliqué de parler français lol
Just undesirable.
Or at least cast a beautiful Juliet,im sure for woke Hollywood they are plenty of beautiful black young black actress for Juliet .
Heck might go to take Zendaya then
@rijusnar1994 Zendaya is half white so maybe you can just gaslight Americans into pretending she's white the same way they gaslighted themselves into pretending Obama is black when he's also half white
@@cryptocsguy9282 then cast a fully beautiful black actress ,not half mixed or anything.
@@rijusnar1994 That sounds like something woke hollywood has to do lmao 🤣
No she can’t
Brie Larson used to be fluent in Quebecois would be more accurate. 😂
Manitoba and Québec are not the same lol and "Québécois" doesn't exist
She looks fair, but feels foul
Was the most hated female actress untill amber heard lol
Only weirdos think they’re the most hated
@@khalfrodo4921 Which actress can be considered equally or more hated?
@@robovac3557 Gwyneth Paltrow, Anna Gunn, Kristen Stewart, Lindsay Lohan. I’d argue that they’ve been trashed on significantly worse and for much longer. Only incels attack Brie cuz they don’t like Cap Marvel and Heard isn’t even that controversial compared to Depp and what he’s done.
@@khalfrodo4921 Heard isn't controversial compared to....? Ah now, come on now just a minute. The woman who made up DV and SV abuse allegations, applied bruises with makeup and called the paparazzi to then be photographed, photoshopped injuries, shat on her husband's bed, physically assaulted various people. What did those other headcases do that's worse?
@@khalfrodo4921 Heard is definitely way more controversial than Johnny Depp
0:00 So, in short, no she doesn’t. Save yourself a minute.
How can u forget your native language? I think brie larson is a liar
She’s not lying I can relate to her I have lost my Spanish in elementary school in the states and Spanish was my native language. I had to regain my Spanish back and that was after college.
@@Chris193_ good for u then
It was a yes/no question. Why did it take a minute to answer without giving the actual answer. Just say no
@RedBaron44 That's exactly how politicians answer questions
Nice
It happens ,
canadian french is a heavy dialect that varies a lot from regular french. most french people don’t even properly understand canadian french because it sounds like a whole other language. so if she is learning european french when she’s only spoken canadian french before, this might be the problem.
Bollocks bro... the accents are different but it's the same language it's like saying an Australian and an Irish can't communicate stop spreading shit bro...
It’s not that different. It’s like American English vs British English.
@@daylonmurray8068 not exactly. it’s a whole other dialect. i’m french and i have trouble understanding canadian french simply because everything is pronounced differently, there’s different vocabulary and sometimes even other grammar.
@@sieben4382 Yes, because France has been imposing only one so-called “correct” way of speaking for centuries. I’m Swiss and I’m more used to different accents, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. After a couple of weeks in Canada, I understood everything. It’s not another dialect in my opinion, it’s still French. French words, French grammar, albeit with their own pronunciation of some words, yet most stem from older register of French or older regional accents from the N and NW of France.
@@daylonmurray8068 i mean canadian french is literally a dialect. other than that, you’re right. the language is the same, but french people are taught and used to metropolitain french, so we don’t always understand dialects. but the same goes for other languages (english, german,…) i think it’s normal to not always understan each other through different dialects
Love the fact she speaks French
Tut tut tut! Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers, honte à toi! 😒
So she's French. That explains a lot.
Not french otherwise would mean she is from France. It’s the language french but from Canada (probably the province of Quebec, since we are the majority of french speaker in Canada)
@@Mimi-zm8lh Actually the majority of French Speakers are in West Africa and the Caribbean, but if she's Haitian, she fooled me.
@@thomashogan9196They said « The majority of French speakers in Canada », not in the whole world. So they weren’t wrong
Ethnically yes. Her real full name is Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers
@@AuxaneST I actually thought she was a Dutch South African. I think she's a Boer.
I think she should become French….move there.
Allez on fait un effort, c'est pas compliqué :)
She never learned French she learned Québécois which is different cause it’s lazy French which is why she likely did terrible in post secondary with that as her experience.
Hé father came from Manitoba not Québec lol
@@dejavudeux lol you think Québécois is only spoken in Quebec? Look up festival de voyageur, St Boniface Hospital and area is the biggest Quebecois population outside of Quebec. Where is Winnipeg? Manitoba.
@margaretanne1517 Well, I dont think anything French talk outside of Québec are not Québec French. Exactly like French talk in New Brunswick is name "French Acadian" and no Québec French lol
Her dad is from Manitoba....
@@musikluver we in Canada who do speak French speak quebecois. It’s a lazy version of French. For example real French says pomme de terre but Quebecois calls it potat. Lazy French. It’s a potato either way.
There's something about the eyebrow lifts and slow eye blinks that make her seem either condescending or disingenuous. 🤔
Or maybe it’s just how she talks… some people over exaggerate their facial expressions when they feel awkward or whatever on camera. That this looks to me
She is an introvert attempting to be extroverted.
Pin I’m kinda early?
Haha. No.
Wtf is wrong with her arm?
Cool👍
Very American to speak a language and forget it lol shame on her poor parents
Sooo pretty🤗💕♥️

Can bree Larson show expression while acting?
Yes she can, you are just too blinded by the hate spreaded by RUclipsrs towards her and captain Marvel, you haven't seen anything else from her filmography. Watch 'the Glass Castle' or ROOM or Short Term 12 or Scott Pilgrim. She's a Brilliant actress who won an oscar for her amazing acting in ROOM
She could have just said no lol
She answered other questions like that and a lot of people called her antipathic
"I didn't last long in college" what a surprise
She means she dropped out to do acting…
@@LjuboCupic1912 yea I know smartie, I'm just not surprised she hasn't really been to college
@@detectivepigeon5938 she's an actor, obviously isn't a surprise that she don't
So no then. Ok, me neither.
That's a hideous outfit
So the answer is no but she had just keep talking 🤷🏻♂️
Yes or no answer wouldn't it be boring?
These videos are like interviews, the point is to give infos on yourself, for your fans.
how the fuck do you forget how to speak your first language? i assue she learned it because the family talks it at home so just keep speaking it?
@The BK as a trilingual indeed you do forget how to speak it, but in my case I always understand what people are saying in other languages, the hard part is to speak with it, (because you have a slow reflex/remembering words to use them quickly in a conversation) it takes a little bit of time to speak it again but you always understand what they’re saying even when not speaking it for a very long time
@The BK Yeah but not the first language. I am trilingual, I often forget the second and the third n often confuse my self but not my first language speaking. I may forget one or two words but I still manage to take a conversation fluently.
Actually, you can forget it quite easily. Languages get "rusty" if you don't actively use them. My cousin is Finnish like me, but they moved to Germany when he was 6. He speaks Finnish, and he even came back here for high school, but now he lives in Germany again, and every time I see him, his Finnish gets worse. My younger cousins, his sisters, are even worse, but all of them started to speak Finnish as their first language.
My other cousin's family lives in Norway. Her kids speak excellent Finnish, despite never attending school here. Their mother was very active with their language development.
I have several other examples, and based on those, I would say that it's almost always the parents' fault if a child forgets their first language. You need to use it actively, but it might feel difficult if you live far away.
I moved almost 6 years ago to another country where I have to comunicate in English and I barely use Spanish nowadays. I still speak Spanish much better than English but I've noticed that I'm becoming shorter in vocabulary and sometimes I need a translator to find one Spanish word I forgot.
@@TuomariMuller I'm Finnish living in the UK for the 4th year now I think and I'm slowly forgetting more and more words and sometimes unknowingly use the English sentence structure when speaking Finnish. My friend who I play online games with makes fun of me for it all the time haha, but sometimes it really is a struggle to remember certain words
So... No.
So…no, she can’t
Wow, she's pretty daft, huh?
How?
For not knowing another language?
Not really that’s a pretty honest take on speaking multiple languages. She’s not boasting about speaking french she’s just giving her experience. I think if you spoke multiple languages you should understand
Sure buddy 👍
Just in case you didn’t know why people don’t like Brie, exhibit A
Her answering a question?
She’s not my favorite actor or person but what does her forgetting a language she didn’t use in first grade have to do with anything
Why? Cause she forgot french?
People who move into other countries start forgetting their 1st languages all the time. Not sure why exactly that would make you not like her unless you are REALLY passionate about French
Must be a flimsy case if this is exhibit A.
She is same as Amber heard for me..
She’s not an abuser or a racist don’t compare
Yea all cuz of all the people she abused and then lied about. She sucks man.
Oh wait…
You sounds more worse than amber heard tbh
So you're comparing someone whose personality you just don't happen to like to a *domestic abuser* with psychological issues? You seem like a great person
A proven domestic abuser and a liar compared to someone who you didn’t like in a movie. Fucking weirdos on the internet man. I don’t even care too much for Brie Larson but I feel like I need to call out all this bullshit hate because it’s completely unfounded.
The way she talks and presents herself is very unappealing. She always looks and sounds kinda defensive and annoyed.
What an unlikable human being
So are you.
oh, so not, actual French
