GOOD VIDEO MAN. I want to add this because i just diagnosed my issue. Hope it will help people in colder areas.
Hey Guys, so I live in Calgary Alberta......With this said, our winters get frigidly cold -20C common......my 4wd service comes on/fuse blows/lights on selector switch goes out. Nothing works...found a write up - not sure if its from GM directly. But it states, if your 20amp ATC fuse keeps blowing, but Encoder @ T-case works......front diff actuator works. You're getting get grounds.....good voltage at connectors....( Bench test front actuator ) and it works.......and there is no code for TCCM ( Transfer Case Control Module ) ....it is the 1640 connection - they used 18 gauge wire from factory but during colder than normal ambient temps - it will spike in amps and blow the fuse....The easy fix is replace with 25amp fuse. OR replace the Orange wire - with 16Awg. DONT GO SPLURGE ON PARTS BEFORE YOU DO ALL YOUR CHECKS!!!!

I made the below comment many years ago. I just had noticed I had done so when logged in on my girlfriends account. So I just cut and pasted it correctly as me. I do want to add that doing what I suggest is what I did after driving my truck for like 2+ years with the "service 4WD" message showing. It fixed my problem, cost nothing and no reprogramming!
    ----------
DO NOT BE AFRAID TO DO THIS: Remove the switch completely and go to your workbench. Open up the switch by prying the clips etc. (THERE ARE VERY FEW PARTS TO THIS SWITCH AND NO SMALL PIECES ETC) You will likely find broken solder joints. With solder iron, heat each joint and reassemble. It is VERY easy, even if you haven't soldered before. DO NOT BUY A NEW SWITCH! VERY EASY REPAIR FOR EVEN A NOVICE MECHANIC.

Great. The part that you took out and made it work is the TCCM= Transfer Case Control Module. It is responsible for the communications between the ECM, the front differential box, the gearbox and the transfer case. When change the actuator and / or the motor that fits on the front differential, you need to reset it using a programmer like Maxidas or Tech 2. You also must make sure that you took the TCCM off an exactly similar truck like yours. Any different settings in the TCCM, like tire size or drive ratio, will cause a severe damage to one of the major transmission sets underneath your vehicle. Otherwise, you need to re-flash the new TCCM to be compliant with the remaining parts on the truck.

Thanks for this advice, Im sure most won't think of the programming issue. I assume it needs to be programmed even if you buy a new one off of amazon or napa, or even an OEM if you can find one. Can you confirm if it comes pre-programed? or is this used on many models and needs to be programed accordingly?

    • @eihabal-hussaini7564

Best thing to do is scan with a scan tool and diagnose properly from there. Transfer case shift motor on side of transfer case is a widely known issue with Gmail np246 transfer cases. Here's another one for you if you have a 01 thru 09 gm. Google search "GM Pump Rub" and go from there. A company called Merchant Automotive males a good adapter that's machined and replaces the oil pump half facing the rear case half of the transfer case.
Don't use the Dorman rear case half as mine wouldn't allow the vehicle speed sensor to sit like it should so I'll be returning it to my local parts house for credit and spending the extra 200+ for a gm rear transfer case half. The Dorman case don't allow the rear vehicle speed sensor to sit all the way in as it should without keeping the transfer case input shaft from turning by hand. I even took it to a transmission shop that does a lot of rebuilds and they were stumped and told me to get a different case from them or the gm one. Apparently they get their case halves elsewhere also.
Since I installed the rear case half my speedometer don't work till about 20mph and I have a ABS and service brake system code that points to the visit sensor which we couldn't screw all the way in which I'm almost certain isn't able to read and acquire the proper signal to work properly. On the transfer case shift motor don't buy the aftermarket brands either or you'll pay later as well as my transmission shop informed me and they weren't trying to sell me one either.
Just replacing the encoder inside the shift motor is asking for headache as well. My Tahoe was dropping into 4 love on its own after I'd been involved in an accident. The transmission shop guy said those motors are like thermostats and any excessive jolting causes issues. Been getting transmission work done there 20 plus years and the owner just gives me good advice when I need it and in return when the work is to much for me he knows he'll get the work.

Had to click auto 4 to get it to move, and then it sounded like something banged into gear. Then I was able to drive in 2 high again till it would slip out of drive and seemed like it would shift into neutral by itself.
