Mazi wasn’t fooled he was definitely coached into that. The examples are Big Bo and others under various coaches who decided to make them do that. Case in point check out the interviews they almost never focused on run stoppage all talk was about pass rush! It was the coaches!
Don’t be fooled guys, Zimmer will stop that Shanahan offense that Green Bat also used on us. Quinn was great against inferior teams because we’d get a lead and he could just attack. Zimmer will be much more disciplined and coach with meanness.
Need a dt tbh
The problem I saw with the DL while DQ was here is that they all were too eager to get sacks. Sometimes they would overcommit and get out of position because of it. Mazi said he lost weight so he could be a better pass rusher. That’s not the role he was drafted for.
Are you sure about that? All DQ talked about with him is turning him into a pass rusher
@@brianrolle42
The tape doesnt lie.
Mazi is not a pass rusher and will never be a pass rusher.
He can drop another 100 pounds and still not be a pass rusher.
Most likely Mazi was taking steroids at Michigan but when he came to the NFL he realized that the random drug testing is no joke.
Same for Schoonmaker, who was teammates with Mazi at Michigan.
Both guys are completely different without that Vitamin S 💉
@@shaft5 I think you misunderstood my comment. I was only stating the silly coaching that DQ those were doing with him. We needed run stoppers and not pass rushers! It was dumb to force him to be something that he never was!
There was a better player them him when they drafted him but what I am talking about the scouting recruiting are not doing they job properly
Im not writing off Mazi yet but in camp last year he couldnt beat Brock Hoffman, Tyler Biadasz, and TJ Bass they blocked him easily lets see how he looks in camp this year with Mike Zimmer
“He lost so much weight, he lost his strength!”
Well, hell yeah he lost strength. You try losing almost 40 pounds and I guarantee you that you’ll lose strength!!!
Most likely Mazi was taking steroids at Michigan but when he came to the NFL he realized that the random drug testing is no joke.

He will be OK
We didn’t run the ball good last year and won the division. Any improvement is a win. Defense line offense line. Damn Quinn was part of the problem
The 2 biggest DT's on the roster currently are rookie Justin Rogers 6'2 330 and vet Carl Davis 6'5 335
So Mazi just decided on his own to lose 30lbs. You guys are special!

Yall are some funny ass fans. Yall expect every pick to be Micah parsons out the gate. It’s barely year 2 for Mazi and his weight is back up.
You are so right
It really was not his weight it was what dan q wanted him to do they drafted a read react guy an wanted him to be something he was not i think he will surprise people this yr
Mazi’s stats were similar to Jalen Carter’s but there ain’t no hate on him.
I absolutely DO NOT expect that- but I DO expect AMERICAS team ( the highest grossing sports franchise on the PLANET) to DO SOMETHING other than resigning a kicker. And I’m sure you’re under 30, so you weren’t even alive the last time the Cowboys won a Superbowl- call me a ‘funny ass fan’!
@@c.j.deyoungiii2704 so on this particular thread, we are discussing Mazi Smith. I do agree with you. I am also frustrated with the lack of off season moves regarding free agency but that’s not what this video or comment section is about is it? But I don’t understand why you felt the need to get defensive if you know it’s not referring to you? If you are not a “funny ass fan” then I’m not talking to you lol. Also I’m 32.
The expectations are mid but I do think they can overachieve our expectations.
Mazi and Coop gonna stirring up the dirt in camp
I hope putting Mazi back in his natural scheme doesn’t mean everyone else is in their unnatural scheme
Guinn never got the defence line, Malpractice big time come on mazi let's gooooooooooo!!!!!!!! Big fan of you!!!!!
A team has to be able to stop run and run the ball. Two things we couldn’t do last season. With the new draft additions we should be able to stop the run and run the ball.
We should be able to run the ball but stopping the run is impossible with our dt on this current roster
I've heard from the occasional talking head that DT nose postion has kind of a steep learning curve from college to the NFL level, and it's extremely abnormal for a DT to hit the ground running super star mode. Who knows, sometimes first round draft picks just dont pan out.
Warren Sapp even took a couple years to get going.
Don't the players get weighed ly?regularly? You can't tell me DQ didn't know Mazi was losing weight! It was obvious Mazi wasn't losing weight the right way and if the trainers and DQ knew, then they should be liable to allow a player to lose weight on their own in an unhealthy way!

@@shaft5 Wow...I didn't even think about that scenario! Is this something you know for sure or are you speculating? Boy...I hope you're wrong. Would hate to have two players that end up being something totally different than what they were when they were drafted because they have to come off of their vitamins! It would also put a dark light on Michigan and Harbaugh!

Speculation…but compare the college tape with the NFL Tape.
TOTALLY different players.
Scouting report on both players coming out of Michigan was they had ELITE POWER and strength.
But when you watch NFL Game tape they look like abused housewives.
How does one lose over 40 pounds DURING an NFL Season, but MOSTLY muscle?
Strength back because he had surgery.
I think mazi is lowkey why they didn't reach for dt
A franchise like this has no excuse being subpar
Mazi was ruined by his statement about not liking football but liking to hit people. It was an unbelievable stupid comment for him t make and he wasn’t able to live it down. Plus the fact that he found out he couldn’t bully guys now shook his confidence. If “going through the motions” were a person, it was Mazi….
He actually said that 👀
8-9
Mazi back up at best
Mazi and the defense collapsed is all on DQ goofy ass. How in the hell is the defense calling their own stunts when they have won ntn. 😂 Smh DQ wanted to be the favorite coach hoping that helps him take MM job.
He has everything power smarts strength tenacity great attitude!!! Unfortunately he is to slow off the ball!!! Maybe with experience he can anticipate a little better!!!
The Cowboys didn't run the ball that well last year. They also weren't good at stopping the opponent's ground game last year either. Guess what? THEY.WON.THE. NFCEAST!!!! They should be able to win this year with Zimmer. I don't know about the run game yet. The Cowboy's management has failed to address this properly until they can prove otherwise.
How is he going to solve being the slowest guy ever off the snap , by gaining 40 pounds ? That will make him slower.
What a disappointment in Mazi.
We were told he was the freak of the draft and all this insane power and size...
Lost a bunch of weight and power?
That's like Cee Dee Lamb putting on 75lbs
I’m 50. I’ve been a Cowboy’s fan for 45 years. Fellas, there is no reason to believe this season. If we go 10-7 I’d be surprised- but either way we’ll be done in the Wildcard game, so 🤷🏼
I’ve been a fan since 1975. This is the least excited I have been for an upcoming season in 20 years when they were using baseball pitchers at QB, Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson and Drew Henson.
Agreed!!! Actually got worse while everyone else got better. Im looking at the 2025 draft!!!!
@@Duude125 man, I’d forgotten about those blunders!
Sounds like they know exactly what happened with the weight loss but they are not at liberty to tell his story so they are kinda alluding to it. Look around RUclips a bit you will see others saying that is pretty much the same reason just sorta saying it like they are
Most likely Mazi was taking steroids at Michigan but when he came to the NFL he realized that the random drug testing is no joke.

I hope Zimmer can get Mazi going, but man, a 1st round pick that only gets 4 snaps against the most important game of the year is scary.
I’m 65, and a fan since 1968, the Boys will not be a good team… it’s done. Go Texans! They don’t look like chokers.
They need to stop the run
Made the man lose over 40 lbs...why even draft him? Can you imagine not being able to do physically, what you did easily couple of months ago?.U can't move men against their will anymore ? That's why you were drafted
That's Gotta Mess with your mental health
Where do you get he lost 40 pounds?
@tonypassaretti I believe that it was more than that... He was drafted at 340,and during the season, he had to lose weight to try to be a 3 technique . He's gained weight to get to 305...

Its common knowledge.
Even Zimmer, Quinn & Mazi admitted the the weight loss
I hope Mazi makes a comeback! His get off was horrible. I hope gaining energy will be apart of the weight gain.
The 2 guys other than Broaddus and Woldchuck( Not sure of the spelling) do not say anything worth hearing.
This guy is done. I don’t think he’ll last on the roster longer than Taco did.
😂.... Well negative Nancy!!! You must be a teenager
@@adolphmoraga5053LMAO😂 I’m old enough to remember the last Super Bowl.
Agreed.
I do not see another NFL team signing him after the Cowboys cut him 1st week of August.
He will be damn lucky to sign with a CFL Team.
No one can fix Mazi Smith.
Watch the tape.
Mazi is not an NFL Player.
Prediction #1: Mazi Smith is cut early in training camp.
Prediction #2: No NFL Team will sign him when he hits the waiver wire.
If he is lucky he might get signed in the CFL.
BTW: Zimmer just asked Mazi what his weight was last week.
Mazi’s answer: 305 pounds.
Ouch.
Yeah I wouldn’t place money on that bet
that’s not how the league works. even the worst 1st round busts bounce around the league for a few years even if they’re cut by the team that drafted them.
and I’m happy to make you a gentleman’s bet that the cowboys don’t cut him in camp-if we were betting money I’d cheerfully give you 3 to 1 odds
I heard he's dealing with some mental health issues as well. If true that has to be the priority 1st and foremost...football can take a backseat while he gets his life back in order. He's young...needs to beef up and learn from being coached up on technique
You are 100% correct. His tape is awful . Just play after play of him getting mauled by no names . Not even double teams. Just 1 on 1 blocking pushing him to the opposite of the field from the ball. He is also the slowest guy off the snap, ever. This is not fixable. He simply is not an NFL player . Just too slow and no leg power
@@jd35711
During the regular season Mazi’s snap counts were around 30% which is HORRIFIC for a 1st Round NT.
During the wild card game, Mazi only got 7% of the snaps!!!
So yeah, I dont see Mazi on an NFL Roster in early August.
If only Zimmer could have saved Taco... I don't believe any of the bullshit you all try to convey. Mazi was the only draft pick worse than Taco Charlton.
