Trail Repair And A New Clutch

- While I was still on my honeymoon I got a call for a Toyota with a broken front spring hanger on Hells Revenge. I called the guys and asked if they would be up for going to weld it back together. They headed out and found them right at the Corkscrew Obstacle. They picked it up and got it welded back together as best they could with the frame pieces torn in half. It got up that obstacle but then was starting to bent again. They decided to pick it up and carry it out. After some struggles getting it down a very steep slope, Mike took over driving duties and they got it out and onto the customers trailer at the trailhead. Then back in the shop Mike put a new clutch in the Silver truck. It started slipping a month or so ago and we ordered in a new one but haven't had time to swap it in. Everyone pitched in helping Mike get it done but he definitely knocked it out mostly by himself. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

You definitely know shit is going south when Mike starts getting frustrated. It's amazing how patient Mike Shawn and Rory are.
Man I’ve never heard Mike on the edge of frustration. Must have been crazy being there in real time. Also, you did a great job Mike.
I thought the same, Mike is so very patient.
Mike: 🛑 STOP 🛑 breaking it 😅
That homemade buggy had crappy brakes 😮
Mike seemed to have many shots and verbiage to provide evidence to a insurance lawyer
Update the profile pic with a still of Mater's profile silhouette in the sun on the wall as it was rolling up. Beautiful
Love the shadow of the Trail Mater on the hill.
YUP that's what I thought !!
Mike has a good eye for a shot
01:12 it reminded me of The Roadrunner and Coyote Cartoon. The boom on Trailmater resembles the Roadrunner's tail.
Siloet
Mike can't fool me twice...that's not a real Trail Mater. He's doing that with some twigs and branches 🤣
I wish we had a camera on Rory when he watched (or watches) the video of the recovery. His reaction has to be epic.
Seriously! We need a "Rory reacts" update video!
Dude in the Toyota was just violating TrailMater!
Lol lots of curse words!
"The more you see, the more you see" I can't argue with that. Not sure if truer words have ever been spoken.
You did great, Mike
Exactly 💯🤣😂
Pucker factor 3000 for Shawn being pushed down the hill.
Whiplash is not fun as it lasts the rest of your life. The Trailmater Team will eventually feel their life's work. The sad part is when you physically can't do what you love to do.
"The front fell off!" My favorite skit.
Shawn and Mike , the two of you did an amazing job that P.O.S. 4-Runner . Rory would be PROUD of the TWO of YOU !!!!
Right. There is a lot of design flaws in it.
Thank You for being vigilant in explaining how important it is to stay on the trails... There are many out there that want all trails closed, all paths closed and all natural camping area's removed from existence.... We only help them with their argument when we do stupid stuff.... This comes from a guy who loves the outdoors and wants EVERYBODY to enjoy them not just a select few....
It’s like watching people throw trash on a trail!!!’
Agree! Some of the recoveries are in Our National Parks and some are State Parks. 01:02 and maybe bury a spike strip in the sand for not respecting the trail.
We should all remember to Tread Lightly, so others can enjoy their adventures.
I can see the smoke coming outta Rorys ears on this one all the way from Alabama ..!!!
Nope, !! He is on honeymoon and doesn't care a bit. Cheers Cape Town 🇿🇦🇺🇲🇺🇲😜👌
@@rudiekeyser2495 Do you know where Rory went on his Honeymoon? I don't, He needed a week's vacation as he works dang hard for it.
Mike is freaking awesome. I think a trail repair was a stretch on that Toyota in the first place. No shame.
For what it's worth, Mike's bit of cursing is why this channel is very relatable.
That shadow of the wrecker on the rock wall would make a great logo!
I don't believe I have ever seen a worse design for those spring mounts! There was nothing there to weld to. I think you guys did a phenominal job with what you had to work with!
The sky’s kits are pretty universal to an extent, it’s up to the installer to cut a flat spot on the frame for it to rest on, not to mention they modified it by welding a spring mount further forward that made the crossmember want to twist itself off the frame.
Holly crap, Mikey getting stressed out. I was getting stressed just watching! I don’t know how you guys do it. Such an incredible amount of patience. Mikey you were AWESOME!!!
"The Mike and Shawn Show" best show on the Internet!!!
Mike is going to love all the H2 Hummers he gets to recover when that sub division is finished. starbucks coffee and H2 hummers 😂
I enjoy those TrailMater shadow shots Mike.
Mike did awesome. Shawn pulled that Toyota out of there like a PRO. Great job guys
I would like to compliment the amazing shot of the shadow shot of the truck. That is a Hollywood shot.
The customer is rarely right! This proves that thought.
Has been awesome watching “Mike & Shawn” recovery episodes. Impressed with Mikes welding considering working with dirty metal, no v notching, and both Mike & Shawn explained may not been best design, despite multiple adversities they were able to help customer.
so much for SKYS Design
Exactly 💯😂😅
I was thinking the same thing
That's a sky's mount but it's been completely modified. The front spring hangers have been moved forward 2-3 inches twisting the mounts off the frame
@@chriscampbell7712exactly, have beat my sky’s s10 crossmember plenty of times, chained directly to the crossmember once when a driveshaft broke before I had a bumper to pull from.
“I like that. I like it a lot. And I’m a hard man to please.” One of my favorite instructors when I was an apprentice.
We all love you, Mike! You did awesome.
It's amazing that you guys even got it back to the point to even welding it back together. Great work.
Patience of Saints on that one, guys! Brilliant work as always.
Get em mike that's bullshit. Stay on the trail
Shawn and Mike show 👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You did great Mike! And Shawn!
Experts, you gotta love em.
Mike and Shawn did a very good job.
Putting aside all the fun n antics and how entertaining you guys are, the fact is all of you gents are really well seasoned, resourceful and highly skilled field mechanics.
Thanks for your hard work keeping the trails clear of broken down rigs and helping folks out of a tough spot.
Proper planning prevents poor performance. Mike is a cool fella met him once very nice person and definitely just a normal dude.
Jesus that descent down the hill was PAINFUL.
Not at all your guys fault, y'all did your best with what you were given, and none-the-less, got em' out.
BRAVO!!! The Mike and Shawn Show w/ guest appearance by Justin🙂
The shadow of the tow truck on the sand reminded me of the tow truck in Cars the movie.
I don't do the kind of off-road repairs you do, but I know how it feels when stuff doesn't work as planed. Things seldom go as expected. Keep smiling. You do good work just the same. We don't live in a perfect world. This is for Mike.
@MaxNafelHorsemanship
It is so enjoyable to see Mike and Shaun carefully videotaping the actual work, instead of talking about what they are going to do next, and then, either not showing anything that they do, or high speed showing from a distance, so that we are not able to see anything being done.
So many other RUclips channels nowadays seem to talk so much and show so little of what they really do.
Many other RUclips channels, now show the peoples faces while they just talk and do not show their work, as they used to do, in their previous videos.
It is enjoyable to watch the work, actually being done, and not just see them talke about what they are going to do, while we are looking at their faces.
The Mike & Shawn Show on the Trailmater Channel is great!!
Never been so nervous watching a recovery
No shit!!
enjoy it while you still can guys. RIP Ameirca.
Wow grow up fr !!!!!
Give it a rest Imbcile 🙄
Your the MAN MIKE!!! Your a huge part in the success of all of this! All love and respect to you brother!!!
Simply put: this channel, you guys, are the best. Thank you for sharing your time with us.
Mike did use the *green hammer* - Paul would be so proud of you! 😁🤘
Did a great job Mike. Give yourself a break.
Mike d8d his best at welding, Sean did great towing. The asshat being towed made the job difficult. Next time one of you should be in the towed vehicle
Well done boys
I'd cut the driver a break as it's not like he's probably ever been towed like that in an environment like that combined with the mechanical issues with the brakes. Typically all three of them would be there so that one of them could drive in the towed rig and another film, but they obviously couldn't do that with Rory gone.
You Guys did a great job under the circumstances! Well done.
One of those days, well done Mike for sticking with it 😁👍
You guys always impress. That downhill part was scary. It's a good thing The Mike and Shawn Show came to the rescue.
The Mike & Shawn Show featuring Justin is the best show ever
Shawn and Mike are the real deal.
Mike is such a badass!!!
Good job Mike! And Shawn.
You guys can go weld a front end back on a truck, drag it out, pull a transmission, replace the clutch and put the transmission back all in less that 1/2 an hour! I am impressed. You even have 37 seconds to spare.
Very proud as a Kiwi that you referenced "The front fell off!" by John Clarke. RIP. Very funny man that the Australians will try to claim.
Perturbed Mike is fun! Shawn was like Oh we’ll charge him twice.. looking at the camera..😅
that was a crazy cool shot of the shadow of trailmater 👍
Awesome shadow shots Mike!!!!
And a clutch as a bonus ! Thanks for sharing !
You guys are the best. Like a comedy show and expertise combined.
Field fabrication at it's finest
Great job Mike and Shaun
Good job, guys.
You know what they say.
They can't all be easy, but they all get done.
You both did a great job 😊
Mike and Shawn, you both did awesome!
I predict Rory is going to take more vacations 😂
Mike, you did a great job, love the commentary, not your fault, that the welds weren't holding
Have a great weekend everyone! 👍🥳
Rory, I hope the honeymoon was great.. Mike and Shawn you guys are always fun to watch..
That seemed like an awful lot of work to put in a new clutch !
And you did it all in under 30 minutes and also had time for a trail rescue !
VERY IMPRESSIVE !!! 👍 😏😉
That had me on the edge of my seat.
Great towing skills that was sketchy.
as for Mike’s welds, that was expected you’re out in the field. Everything doesn’t work all the time . But Great job y’all.
Man that was tough tow without one of you driving the recovery vehicle. You guys did great.
Shaun you did really good I think . Simply awesome when it comes right down to it. I’d rely on you 2 anytime.
Don’t worry about it Mike. Awesome job! Everybody was safe and you got the rig off the trail. That’s all that matters.
Well done Mike & Shawn. Trying circumstances but you got the job done. The Dodge clutch change was an experience all on its own. Thanks for sharing
Tough recovery, you did good, both of you.
"That was a nightmare." dude, Amen
You both did fantastic.
I don't blame your welding job Mike it' s the thickness of the frame your welding to as it is a 4 Runner as opposed to a Tacoma. You guys are doing an awesome job so don't worry about anything.
That front bracket had alot of leverage built into it. Good job Mike
yeah it seems like a bad design that was destined to fail. All that leverage on that bracket that could only be welded on two sides with no bolts or anything in the center.
I hope they fix that design when they fix the truck.
Mike wields the mallet like Thor when his thumb is out of the picture. Good job in getting them off the trail.
cONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WEDDING. mAY YOU AND cHRIS HAVE MANY YEARS OF HAPPINESS, LOVE AND JOY.
Rory is so lucky to have actually the most mechanical dudes working in the field doing these repairs. Between the three or 4 of your crew just no bullshit every time. Getr done attitude is just so appealing to a business owner. Dam you guys are killing it. I look at it this way you all are lucky to have each other and thanks I always enjoy the content.
Mike you did the best you could with that situation . That truck had a lot of problems with it . I'm sure Rory will be glad the two of you got it down for them .
Gotta like the Mike and Shawn show. It must be fun work'n with the both of you. I mean...joke'n around and work'n when it's time to. Great job on the transmission Mike.
Well that recovery was a real eye opener.
Mike, ever the diplomat. Great to see that the pair of you were able to keep calm and give sound advice. Great to see you raising the importance of Treading Lightly of not going off piste too. The variety you guys have to deal with. No two days the same. Take care out there 👍
I think that design on that front end was alot of the most of the problem, the truck seemed really heavy
You guys are the best.
That’s a awesome clutch. Been running that for 13 years in my 06 ton Dodge dually. Flawless 💪🏻🇺🇸
I like watching the shadow of the tow truck. You should make a sticker.
GOOD JOB!
Welding crap like that is crazy hard to keep together.
Great real world video, stuff happens even when it shouldn't have. Don't beat yourself up over it.
Hidden in these videos is a surprising amount of great camera work. Those shadow and landscape shots leading into Hell's Revenge were great! Nice work Mike and Shawn!
Great save guys!
Mike, good thinking when you had the customer put it in gear when you discovered it had poor brakes. And I felt your pain when you watched all that hard work get twisted again within a hundred feet. But it was worth a try, right ? Might've worked.
Great work, the both of you. Got the job done and everyone went home. That's a win.
Mikes always great🤟🤟🤟so is Shawn y’all rock!
Rory I been watching these videos lately I’m in westen nc and I been depressed lately due to the hurricane and my loved ones passing and these vids gave me the want and courage to drag the ole yj out iv plated the whole front of the frame today 6 hours under the welding hood haven’t even welded that long in the past year I just wanna thank you man you help and encourage us more than you know I owe it to you and mat I’m gonna continue to build my yj to keep my mind off things your videos help me more than you will ever know today it gave me the encouragement to keep going on my builds
You got the rig out so that it can be fixed without doing more damage. In the end that's all that maters. I call that a win!
Hang in there Mike. It’s all good!
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
Mike, you are always awesome.
Wow tough recovery on that weird truck and then a big clutch job, you guys have been busy! Good job!
