For me as an early 90's house head who studied in Sheffield and was a veteran of love2be, Rise, Niche, wicker arches et al. it was the beginning of the end for clubbing when gatecrasher opened. Had some good all nighters there early on but the sets got too samey samey, trance-lite, plus all the Crasher kids with their get-up made us feel old 🤣 at the age of 24. the 90's was a golden era. Berlin Wall down, Pre 9-11, No CCTV, persians were quality, 1 year passports, no mobile phones in clubs, tattoos were getting popular but still conjured up visions of sailors & bikies etc. Happy days. A golden age.
Honestly, I enjoyed going to Gatecrasher on occasion between 1999 - 2001; the 6hr PVD sets were fantastic. The crasher kid folks added to the experience, even though we, as "normal clubbers", never felt part of that; it felt almost like a zoo we were observing - competitive drug taking, people staying up all weekend and taking more and more pills, ketamine all kinds of crap, going to all of those hard house afterhours things like Insomnicaz and that thing they used to have on in the Howard, getting in that kind of dangerous state never really appealed to us! - you have to wonder how many of those people ended up with addictions and mental health issues. The whole thing was over by 2001/02; arguably, certainly, the decent nights were done, the 90s crowd aged out. That fiasco at the Don Valley on Millennium night ended GC as a credible brand.
@@chattyman4740great comment! Pvd sets were awesome. For me it was ketamine but especially coke that killed Gatecrasher. Everyone went from grinning from ear to ear to either being smacked out or, on one night, I saw a dead smiley crasher kid say hello to some wanker in the toilet and the bloke turned and headbutted the guy, for saying hi? Coke turned many of mates into gollum, endlessly seeking the precious and spending about £300 an evening trying to find it. I was always happy with a couple of E's, a few beers, maybe some speed and I'd rave the night away, all for around £70
I miss these days!!! The perfect UV haze on a chemical honeymoon, a place where you felt connected (with or without disco biscuits) and heart beats in tune with the pumping kick drums ItWillAlwaysBeWithUs
Pvd - For an Angel (Ashtrax Mix) Cass & Slide - Opera Oliver Lieb - Subraumstimulation (Sander Kleinenberg Mix) Muse - Sunburn (Timo Mass Mix) Skip Raiders - Another Day (Brainbug Remix) Storm - Time to Burn Floorgasm - Have A Nice Day Darude - Sandstorm
Its such a shame that it portrays 'crasher ' like this.. Gatecrasher always had a 'Unique' feel about the club, and thats what made it special...... we all felt 'one'....... we all felt like an underground special 'Fuck you main stream, love your fellow clubber' cos at the end of the day... We all wish we were back in the Republic
Hello Gatecrasher people, just thought I'd do a 2021 check in. Great to watch this video again what a fucking mental place it was!! 🤣 Itwillalwaysbewithyou 💯 🙌🏻
The golden era of Gatecrasher certainly wasn't Judge Jules playing his usual 4 - 6am sets .... It was the djs who played 11pm - 4am that made that place what it was ❤
UV LEE Disco Dave who spent all night in the toilet trying to piss lol and the whole of the crasher kids/ public made this night the GREATEST club experience probably in the world! Just a great period in the world of clubbing! And spoilt with choooon after chooooon ! Sweet Sreams n power of love ending the night!
Quite funny with the difficulty getting in, it was the messiest most gurniest place once inside. If that was London they'd throw you out for being too OTT. But then up north, it was K & speedy mitsis so no wonder
Nothing even remotely embarrassing about that, it was just a generation who knew how to let go and have it, not like today where everything is about fucking shit shades, wanker vest tops and skinny jeans.
Love the way the video starts off with some undeniably brilliant prog/prog trance (one of them was definitely on FIRE/ERIF and I think it was either Cass or Slide's own release in question, can't quite remember) and it tumbles into Sandstorm by Darude with that utter bellsniff Judge Jules at the helm.
I often wonder what their hearing must be like now; the hardcore people who went every week from 96-2002 GC was insanely loud, and this was before earplugs; there must be a lot of deaf folks and tinnitus sufferers in their late-40s who are veterans of this!
Cued for about 2 hours to get in one night to see oakenfold, got to the front of the cue. Sorry we're full now! Ended up in Area 51 down the road, mental times!!
Hi there, we're making a documentary about Sheffield in 2000, and we'd love to use this footage! Is it yours? If you're interested in exploring doing a deal on it so we can use it in the documentary, please do get in touch. I'm on helensarahspooner @gmail.com - thanks!
after the breaky version on for an angel, does anyone know the song at 22 seconds, have a listen, tell me it doesnt make the hairs on your (insert bodypart) react!!! deep
Grüße Fräulein, Sturm-Verbot-Führer, fuck dude, where did you get? Guys men running in a hurry, it was in 2000, and what I saw, the music is cool, but gay go. There's never been in the club, went to the same period in 2000. Is mainly women and their Ballers Euro. but were not normal, and this wealth of style, do not know what

It was a riot while it lasted though!

Shame we had to grow old!!!
10/10 for the gurning.
Quite funny with the difficulty getting in, it was the messiest most gurniest place once inside. If that was London they'd throw you out for being too OTT. But then up north, it was K & speedy mitsis so no wonder
This is amazing, I'd forgotten how insane it was. Never noticed Lee and Geek gurning that much for some reason!

Wow that brings back some memories!
Amazing video- a real treasure
Not a phone in sight
I remember we all had them, but no camera's on them yet.😂
