Annette Funicello - Dream Boy
With The Afterbeats
Some boys, they say They wanna take me dancing
That's what they say; (That's what they say)
And yet, they only Wanna go romancing
And right away; (And right away)
Although, I like to go to drive-in movies
I only go to see the show
Because, as yet; I haven't met the fella
Who'll set my heart; And soul aglow
Dream boy dream boy; Where's the boy for me
Dream boy dream boy; I wonder who he'll be
Who will he be; Who will he be
Who will he be; Who will he be
Wonder when I'll meet the dreamy dream boy mean't for me
Sometimes, I really think I like a fella
Who's nice and sweet; (Who's nice and sweet)
And then another fella comes and sweeps me
Right off my feet; (Right off my feet)
Although; I love to dance and like romancing;
And making plans And holding hands
I know this heart of mine; Is only searching
To find the one; My only one
Dream boy dream boy; Where's the boy for me
Dream boy dream boy; I wonder who he'll be
Who will he be; Who will he be
Who will he be; Who will he be
Wonder when I'll meet The dreamy dream boy mean't for me;
Wonder when I'll meet The dreamy dream boy mean't for me
I don't think I've ever heard a bad word about Annette. Apparently, everybody who worked with her loved her. I met a guy who had played in a couple of the beach pictures and he had nothing but wonderful things to say about her. She was one of my first crushes, too. God bless her.
I love Annette!
For all young people in 2009... look at the youth and vitality of Annette. Unfortunately, read her biography... how tragic... we are all mortal... what a sad ending for such a classy lady.
God bless the ever lovely Annette ~ your fans always hold you in love and prayers!!!!
ANNETTE really was the absolute PERFECT girl next door. Modest, pretty, polite, always a little coy with guys (always with that "not so fast, buddy" attitude LoL - love that about her) and her records were such fun to collect, even though she didn't really think or consider herself much of a singer ~ I'd sure rather hear her singing with her small singing voice than some of the garbage that is out there today -
The song is actually the old Italian folk song "Funiculì, Funiculà" -- a famous Neapolitan song composed in 1880 by Luigi Denza to lyrics by Peppino Turco. I think it was brilliant how it was updated and made into "Dream Boy," by Annette (looking exceptionally good in this clip). Of course, songs like this Americanized is not new. Elvis Presley's "It's Now or Never," is really "O Sole Mio," (another Neopolitan song written in 1898) and his "Surrender" is actually "Come Back To Sorrento," (yet another Neopolitan song written in 1902). Those Italians always find a way of getting their brilliant melodies into American culture.
keep it posted. The real dreamboy by Annette solo is the I like best altho this is entertaing too. It is usually the way it is with the doowop sound...in that it can't be duplicated, not by an older rocker like me that as an ear for the original recording. Thanks for posting.
Someone needs to put on YOU TUBE
ANNETTE'S rare single recording of "Bella Bella Florence".
All of Annette's
records deserve a CD presentation.
Wonderful!! I've never seen this before. Thank you for sharing!
Great music esp because of several talented singers.
I LOVE TOMMY KIRK!!!
You make my big mouse ears blush of pleasure when I see and listen to you
RIP Annette.
Annette Funicello schwinnnngggg
I love this and thanks for sharing
That is very nice of you, thank you.
I wish I could find this film(?). It looks really fun. :D
Some acoustics in that little restaurant.
We have one already, it's titled "Frankie & Annette, MGM Movie Legends Collection". This is a collection of 8 of their movies === Beach Blanket Bingo / How to Stuff a Wild Bikini / Beach Party / Bikini Beach / Fireball 500 / Thunder Alley / Muscle Beach Party / Ski Party.
Great
bravi!!!
Back in the late 50's and 60's there were probably zillions that would have fought over her, not just Tommy, Nino or Frankie.
No, the voice of Nino Castelnuovo was provided by a young actor -singer -dubber Gianni Marzocchi, famous "ghost singer " for dubbing in italian musicals like My Fair Lady and Doctor Dolittle, he also played on stage the part of Freddy Einsford Hill in the italian production of My Fair Lady with Delia Scala as Eliza. Gianni also recorded "Bella Bella Florence" as a single with Annette!
Wonderful upload! Would love to see the rest of this if you have it available for upload!

@videofan792 I made this clip from the complete (video tape) movie. It was originally a 2 part Disneyland TV show
@greszkinov They never released it on DVD, sometimes it's on AMC
This song makes me so happy I could cry
The Sherman bros are legend.
Shame about Robert (sniffs)
Me and 1,258,659,8248 other guys crushed on Annette.
This is not the original, but it sounds okey just the same. Besides we have a video to go along with that Dreamboy. The originals all sound better particularly when it comes to doowop sound. Thankyou for keeping this version avaliable.
If you want the parts of the Italian boy, I can write. I am Italian and Neapolitan.
I gather the original Vista single isn't allowed in You Tube. :(
I like Annette's single version of this song ~ I could do without that guy singing alongside her in this clip - her own record of DREAM BOY
actually hit the Charts back in the
early 60's although it wasn't one of her bigger Hits.
As near as I can tell, he did. You also have to consider this was 1962, TV and a studio recording with enhancements added. Not uncommon then or even now. Time has a way of changing how people sound.
Thank youk, ncatt. Do you think you could possibly put the scene I mentioned on RUclips? I don't know if that is asking a lot but it was my favorite scene from the whole movie, where the Italian woman fights back in her own kitchen with all the pots and pans being thrown about and then she comes back into the restaurant right at the very end and sings the last few bars, LOL. I would love my grandchildren to see that scene because their mother and I watched it so many times.
Sorry, I meant "Escapade in Florence".
@videofan792 I'll dig out the disk and try to post it, just give me a little time.
Lady - get the food to the table before it gets cold!
There is another scene from "Adventure in Florence" where the bad guys come into the restaurant and a fight ensues in the kitchen, while the family is singing the Drinking Song, in Italian, of course. Do you happen to have this scene as well?
@ncatt Zillions I agree, but not Tommy Kirk.
Please avoid anymore comments about what you believe her health is except that she has MS.
3rd party statements are not always factual, nor are they welcome.
The guy sings wonderful, he can't play guitar, though.-- LOL--
