  • The African mask plant is a fairly common house plant. Also known as "alocacia polly" it's fairly simple and straightforward to take care of but there are some things that you need to know before you can expect success with this exotic tropical house plant.

    Thank You!! Great video!! You scored on that one!! I bought mine in the Winter, waited a week, then transplanted it in a DIY Pons mix (semi-hydroponics). It is very happy. I did loose a couple of leaves but that's to be expected. I planted all the corms and now I have lots of baby Alocasia Polly's and Alocasia Bambino's. One trick is to rinse the roots with look warm water. I use Brita water when watering, and lower the pH to around 6 for all my plants. You can even use the Brita filter way past expiration. That and a humidifier is huge!! I turn the light down a bit so I don't shock my plants when transplanting. Happy Green Thumbs!!💚🥬🦚🪴🍀🍀🍀🍀🌴🐛

    It is so cool to see this plant with more than 2 or 3 leaves! Mine currently has 4. You give me hope.

    These plants are hard. I had one for almost a year and thought I was doing something. This video gives me hope after all. I never seen one this size.

    Thanks for the tips. Just picked up this plant up and you definitely got a great price. I have two humidifiers going. Was told to only use distilled water, or rain water.

    Love the good ol' Michael Jordan reference😂👍 it's SO true though! I've built so much confidence in myself over the last few years through trial and error. It's such a good feeling when you kill or nearly kill a plant, try again, and now you've got a beautiful plant that you have figured out and is thriving! THE BEST😊

      You're so right, it pains me when people give up on the first try. Everything I tried died. And even to this day i still have plants that don't make it. Its just part of the process

    Really really interesting!
    Had the Amazonica first, repotted her 3 times, before winter the plant died, pretty sure I drowned her..
    Tryin now with cuprea, dragon scale and black velvet and enjoying the exploring process 🎭🌧️

    Beautiful plant, larger than any I’ve seen around my area. Thanks for sharing your experience. Have heard these plants go dormant sometimes. Have you ever experienced that? Had one that died on me and haven’t been brave enough to try again. Thanks for the encouragement👍

    • @plantmarksthepot5618
      @plantmarksthepot5618  3 года назад +4

      Yes they do come back. Let them dry out completely while dormant and keep in a cool dry place. Once spring comes around bring them into a hot humid atmosphere and they'll pop up quick.

    Hi there, I am happy to have found this video. Your polly is so beautiful! I lost mine due to spider mites 🤦🏾‍♀️I would love to get another one, and most likely keep it outside . 😄

      I still haven't move mine outside yet. Sometimes you can get lucky and find Them for a really good price at big Box stores. I also haven't repot it yet so I have a lot Of decisions to make

    I did not realize this species went doormat. I almost threw my plant out until I broke down the dirt and found croms. Now I have a bunch of babies sprouting up! I did a DIY humidity controlled environment and they are flourishing.
    I find my monstera plants are not doing as well in the terra-cotta pots.

    Mine is still alive! I haven’t reported. But I have seen browning on the tips , but I have it near a humidifier so it might be the light exposure. So glad I watched this. a 2nd time. I will try moving it.

    I got one of these a few months ago. A couple leaves have died an Di noticed the soul is still moist eventhough I watered it maybe a month ago. I was afraid of root rot so I started to repot it right now when I noticed some pods in the soil. I figured I'd stop and figure out what's going on before I do something wrong 😂

      Ok I've got mine in a similar set up to yours.....it came in a wicker basket plastic lined in a plastic pot and it's sitting on my plant bookcase surrounded by lots of friends.

    You can buy it from the store in the wrong medium for your place like most plants. I currently have mine in orchid pot because I lost two due to root rot so I'd rather see what's happening at all times.

    thanks a lot. Knowing such an expert had also experienced killing the plant made me feel hopeful 😹 but one quick question: my mom looked after my Polly when I was away but she definitely watered too much. Now it has soft stems and leaves are leaning down. I put it out with soil to dry for two days but I don’t see it getting better… what should I do? Thanks for sharing anything if you kindly could.

    Hi I’m new subscriber! 👍Does this plant get very tall and can it survive with almost no light in winter? Thanks!

    • @plantmarksthepot5618
      @plantmarksthepot5618  3 года назад +1

      It gets at most 2 feet tall. It needs medium light at the very least in winter
