Hey, here are my points on every steps :
Step 1 : Period, totally agree, at this point, and even more with the pandemic crysis going on right now, making money is almost a byproduct / bonus of DJing, at least, at first.
Step 2 : I started on cheap Hercules controllers, before actually hesitating between both you talked about, but ended up with the DDJ-SB3, because you can activates up to 3 effect on the same deck, and I use it with Virtual DJ Pro, most people forget about that software, but it gots alot of features and fully tweakable and compatible with alot of controllers actually.
    Step 3 : See above.
Step 4 : Not a problem either, you got a lot of sites where you can download music, but yeah a good DJ, is foremost, someone who can play good music, no matter how famous, rich, classy, charismatic you are, if the music you play is a$$ lol
Step 5 : Yeah, right, I learned through a Phil Harris course (I paid for), but you have DJ Carlo Attendido who is great too on RUclips, might have to check DJ TLM since I didnt know about him. It takes time, but the more you do, the better you'll get, I had much difficulties at start, but it's like everything new, I guess.
Step 6 : This is KEY nowadays, actually a good ratio is like, 30% of your time creating music, 20% of your time learning things about music, and the last 50% sharing and promoting your music on every social medias and music platforms, because no matter how good you are, if people don't have the chance to listen to it, you're screwed, so you need that !
Step 7 : Don't forget to mention Soundcloud too, it's a great way to start uploading music, especially mixes, this is where I started, and now i'm trying Mixcloud too, I suggest, on soundcloud, starting with medleys or mashups, because the attention span is not that high, 20/25 mins max should be your max, alternate bangers and musical gems from upcoming artists. #thankmelater
Step 8 : This is the part I struggle with, since I never mixed outside of my bedroom yet, I think people should start even slower, like backyard parties, birthday parties, barbecues, etc... Because you'll have to learn about equipement, impedence, monitors, wires, everything that you didnt really care in your bedroom. And how to interact with the crowd also... This is why I chosed the path of more of "studio DJ", like DJ & Music Producer, so you make beats and mixes, and stay with artists in studios / sets and promote their music through your mixes and social medias, but yeah, one day or another you'll have to perform live, it's something you have to learn beforehand I think.
Step 9 : see above, same thing.
Step 10 : Networking is key, because DJing world and Nightclub world are hands to hands, it can go fast !
Step 11 : Hm... Idk about that one, I mean, if you're only DJing, yeah its good, but as far as i'm concerned, I'll be bored mixing at the same place, same sets, every single week, sometimes you just want to do something else, maybe clock in a studio session with artists, or maybe attend yourself to a party where you'll be invited the same day, my freedom comes first.
