In 1962, I was a Scholarship student at the Graham School. Once, Martha summoned me into her studio. I trembled my way to the seat facing her. She suddenly turned to me to ask what I wanted to do with my life! I stammered, "To dance for you!" She stared at me. After a long pause, when I thought my heart would jump out of my chest, she said sternly, "Don't imitate me! You must follow your own ancestors' footsteps! I have asked Louis Horst to take you in his Choreography class" So it was, after years of preparation, I created "Golden Mountain: Images of the Chinese in American" premiered at the Salk Institute Court (Architect: Louis Kahn), 1977. She set me free (she gave me a good swift kick) to search for my own artistic life! for which I am eternally grateful & indebted!
I'm not into dance. I was doing a cryptogram and came across a quote of Martha's. "The body is shaped, disciplined, honored, and in time trusted." I was curious who she was and figured RUclips would have actual footage of her. This person is amazing! If they taught her philosophy and techniques in school as a required subject starting when we were young I believe we would all be the best of friends with our bodies.
Because training. If You could stay, stay. But,our unperfect body Will stay on legs of 4. more deepest way ? -a worm with thé diferent heads!...mouth-d'gest-anal= that's All what' mainly A man Is, Till today.
I’m obsessed!!! The more I learn, the more I love! Her, her philosophies, her company of “divine mortals”… pure high Art❤❤❤❤❤#Grateful
