People underestimate the RX8 chassis. It has one of the highest body rigidity of all cars. Including that area and tires it will give you incredible confidence on track. So he can push it way harder and maintain momentum which will easily make up for horse power difference.
also a difference in the drivers. Someone needs a bit more selfconfidence and confidence in the car as well. listen to his exhaust while driving around he's hesitating everywhere
the special edition RX8 (Shinka Edition) had suspension cross member injected with foaming urethane improving performance and ride quality. also had unique suspension tuning with thicker 14mm damper shafts (up from 12mm)
@VistasSrinagarun if you haven't seen their video on it, tall Ben's S2K was having a lot of trouble. The ECU kept cutting power, which is why it sounds like he's getting off throttle. Something wrong either in the engine build, the tune, or both.

2nd gen Rx8’s are super underrated. Fixed a lot of the bugs from the 1st one. Great handling chassis and the rotary power band make it a formidable track car.
It's like they would say in OG Top Gear, "When the laps look slow, those are some of the fastest ones." Maybe there's a difference in camera stabilization, but the RX8 looked positively pedestrian in both the in car and outer shots. Thorn has some smooth inputs and the RX8 suspension geometry is such a king at absorbing road imperfections. That RX8 looked unfazed.
the keyboard mechanics talked so much shit about the tire size and aero of the rx8 " oh its underpowered its gonna slow it down" car performed better than expected.
Nope..those were fine.. But the power gain by just doing intake bridge port on genesis rotary is only halfway for making the power.. Biggest restriction of genesis rotary were from the exhaust port.. especially to make over 200whp on wheels

Its just the renesis iron plate type exhaust port design were bad for performance (and major cause of rx8 burning seals problem).. Easy route out usually is hybrid build with rx7 housing for that pheriperal exhaust port.. 🤭😅

@@wilerd2032obviously there's a lot more preciousness to the S2000 and how it was built up vs how the RX-8 was. Thorn built the RX-8 almost similarly to how he did his EK racecar. Lin didn't really build his car for track - like most guys he just wanted a nice ride to tool around in.
Must say it is fun being being passed by higher horsepower cars on the straights and then hassling them under brakes and thru corners. The standard rx8 chassis, suspension and brakes are so good for a car designed over 20 years ago.

Even if both were in stock form, the RX8 performs nearly as well on track as the S2000 but performs way better on the street in terms of chassis manners and livability (it doesn't shake your fillings loose). In Solo autocross, I witnessed RX8s beat S2000s regularly in the C (street) class.
How about putting in a Mazda 4 cylinder!!! Like the 2.5 sky active, 4 cylinder, headers, tuned with 91 octane, slotted rotors !! It will be a great match!!!! Let the battle of 4 cylinders begin!!!!! Ultimate rematch!!!
I think people are underestimating the rx8, yeah the s2k could’ve came closer on a better day with more driving experience but the rx8 is an amazing chassis and seems to be the more purpose built race car out of the 2
One is a dirty purpose build race car, and the other is almost a show car that happened to be on the race track. Also, Ben lin never before drove this car for more than a test drive.
to the S2K defense, to drive at WOT at all times is the SKETCHIEST thing you can do if you want to run fast. it's such a scary car to drive at the limit with no aero. just came down to driver really.

Even deducting the 2,5-3 secs from S2000's time, RX8 wins easily. Rigid chassis with aero and tire grip against more power in any track with more turning than straights give the same result.
Im here just the the driver battles , keep this up and it doesn’t matter what type of car it’s , we like to see underdogs vs super car or super car vs farm trucks 😂😅.

rx8 chassis is far more rigid than s2k, its a roadster the roof is missing if you give the rx8 any credit give it that chassis performance its top notch. s2k:7,100 Nm/deg vs rx8 30,000 Nm/deg rx8 match the 911 of the time. and.... rx8 by.... finish the vid!
I think the Honda guy doesn’t understand how great the 8 chassis and handling is. Imo it’s one of the best in its class and better than many in a class or 2 above. Poor thing just doesn’t have enough power. That’s why I put 20b in my last rx8. Absolute weapon. 600hp in that chassis if fun AF

I have a 500 rwhp 1993 NSX and had a 430rwhp FD, 2013 PRHT Club Sport MX5 and a few other cars. My brother is an inferior driver and the nanny systems on his RX-8 and 2011 TL SH-AWD makes up for so much. RX8 win doesn't surprise me because of the 275 tires and a longer wheel base.
Rx8 is one of my favorite cars ever. Too bad the engines couldn't last in them. Most people don't have access to tracks with turns. And the prices to use them are really expensive. Im not surprised the rx8 did well. I also like the fact that these are not professional drivers. If anyone knows of a rotary expert near Dallas Texas. Id love to have that contact information
I have an RX8 and my buddy a S2000 both completely stock he couldnt keep up with me in the corners and i had some cheap delinte brand tires and a blown rear shock. road and track says you couldnt beat the rx8 handling until you paid 100k for a car
There are 2 versions. One is 170hp i think and another is 231hp. It would be much better and more balanced if they had high power rx8 against that s2000
Yer I get it could have been under manufacturers spec equally could be above. Not only that this engine isn’t standard. So I just can’t see how it’s so low. I’ve had several cars on a dyno and mapped. The before figure has never been that far under power. Seems odd 42bhp below even with parts and a tune
having the comparisons in each corner like that made it really hard to... compare... looking into each corner when it could have been side by side .... not easy to visualize when your eyes are going from one corner of the screen to the other corner. Makes the comparison almost useless for me, maybe everyone else has photographic memory for split seconds and I don't? I don't know.

The videos could not have been sync'd up as the S2000 was clearly exiting the corners ahead of the RX8.

As an owner of an s1 rx8 and who has been following this g&g rx8 series, I’m very happy.

Yeah, I put 18x11 +45 and 295 Dot r comps from my FD on my 109hp auto rx8 and it was fast on short tracks/autox.
Really didn't expect the RX-8 to win but dang, aero and grip for the win 👏

the s2000 suspension is rock hard, it's unstable due to that, Rx8 is coping with bumps well while staying flat and level on the track

You would make more top end power with a plenum with longer intake runners. Itb's are good for that low end grunt.

235 on ethanol is low for all what this car has, cams intake exhaust on a stock block k20a2 can get u to 250, unless he is quoting wheel power
