When the union army burned 🔥 many southern cities with the confederacy, the south crafted a counter narrative Called the lost cause to explain the war and scapegoat black americans as not being fit for citizenship. It's this scapegoating of black brutes and jezebel black female that provided the rationalization for the US govt to compromise protecting the black population from white terror and abdicated its responsibility to protect black citizen leading directly to the racial terror of white supremacy and violent uprising across the US. Tulsa was one of many of these examples. There is a deep shame around this and the atrocities can't be rationalized. It's why the school curriculums downplay or not make note of it. Stolen land, stolen labor.

Thank you soooo much for getting your guests, Dr Darity and Dr West, together so that they could give this incredibly educational talk. Both of them are incredible to listen to. One comment that caught my ears was the statistic of a ~4% acceptance of a reparation plan by white people in 2000; and then it expanded to a 30% acceptance just in the 2020s. I look around at the posture that my grandparents (all of them are gone now) operated in, and then my parents (both alive), and I see so much prejudice, elitism, hatred, etc etc. Even in my generation (I'm mid 50s white), those descriptors still apply. But now, I am fortunate to have seen my kids, and their generation, grow to be young adults; and I see hope. I interpret that their generation is much more receptive to equality in race, orientation, sex, creed, etc. And that gives me hope. This video was educational, enlightening, and moving. One side of me asks "what can I do to help with this endeavor"? I initially get set back when I think that I can communicate with my congress person. Who's that--- Lauren Boebert; which is the proverbial brick wall. So...my first task is to get those type of people out of office. I say that tongue and cheek as she did declare that she will not run for re-election in our district this 2024; she has migrated to a "more conservative" district to pad her attempt to get re-elected. How do you say in your country-- "that is some chicken sh*t stuff". 4 months ago, I asked you, on one of your live chats, for any recommended books that I could read to get better educated on black issues. Dr Darity's book, From Here to Equality, was one of them! And low and behold, it was the main reference for your video here. Considering the initial wrong that was committed getting land for a separate country in Africa should be an option, but what is the real feasibility in that, in that we are more divided then we were forcibly brought here? None the less it is one of many logical questions that has not been considered at all. To do so wouldn't hurt any more than what has already been a part of the discussion - like who is eligible for reparations, as if the government, no matter who is in office, will pay anyone they don't have to. To entertain the question could lead to another consideration - which could be dual citizenship with a country in African of the individual's choice. Of course some country or countries would have to offer it. There is no hiding from the power of superpower anyway.

There was a argument that was made for this in what is known as the Black Belt of the American South. This didn't gain substantial legs because of the geographic isolation but also the economic pull factors of migration of black Americans to where job opportunities would be. The great migration changed the demographic of black America precisely because of the war effort. Labor was needed in the industrial and manufacturing cities which black folk served as the base for. In conclusion, geographic isolation, lack of central economic import and export base within the belt, and the rise of great migration made this idea infeasible.

I'm not familiar with MMT, but common sense say that the tax payers will pay in the end. It will come out of the budget, and thus less funding will be available to pay for the already existing things that must be funded. We already have much to fund - rebuilding the infrastructure, and from the ever increasing destruction from storms and other natural disasters, and likely with continuing pandemics, not to mention wars. There is the option of a peace dividend on the international and domestic levels, but no one wants to entertain that kind of idealism. I proposed it to most of the Democrats running for President, in the last election, by submitting it to their websites. Black intellectuals and woke activist can call for the defunding and abolishment of police and prisons, but this old novel concept is still ignored by most of the world. Even if reparations were to come in whatever form, it is no guarantee that it will eliminate the problems that exist among many Black people. Those who are in a position to benefit from them to some extent, based on their individuality, will and those who are not, will likely not get much out of them. Our problems are not all external, as the woke among us insist we believe. As long as we deny and don't correct the ways we make our situation worse, these problems will likely continue to get worse, until the government steps in with drastic measures of their own. We will never know how much of our problem is racism in all its forms, until we eliminate the internal causes that exist. I believe they are significant. I believe it is more the individual than it is the environment in which we live. If it were, most of us would be living at or below the poverty level. A criminal is often, if not in most cases, the exception in their family. This is the fundamental problem with us on the Left, but with us Blacks especially. All the idealism that we on the Left values is only directed at and asked of the government, but none at the people. Again, those who speak as if they represent all or most Black people, have the attitude that all our problems stem largely from racism in all its form or 'White supremacy and systemic/structural racism. That, from my perspective, is a formula for failure.

Hi, I was at work, so I had to make my comments short. Could you please have Professor Cornel West back on the show and don't let him skate around your questions? He talked about truth and integrity. But I didn't see that in him in this interview. For the intelligent man I took him to be, I would expect more in his repertoire than the same old blues and jazz analogies. I think Trump has exhibited a broader range of talking points than what Professor Cornel West has done. Even Trump's talking points are crazy at best. At least, he says the most radical thing to play to his supporters. When it comes to reparation, the 1st speaker laid out some great facts he should have been able to capitalize on. Instead, it seemed he danced around the questions with jazz and blues artists. Those questions, in my opinion, should have received straight, clear answers that told us clearly what he would do or wished to do. Then please find out if he has been bought out to sabotage his own campaign. Because I don't see or hear the true efforts in getting his name on the ballots in all the states. When something doesn't smell right, I want to know why. Let us know if he tries to blow you off until later. I hope and pray that's not the case. But like he said, "No one is perfect, and his heart is crooked too."
Ronald Reagan did a tax cut in 1981 that amounted to 3% of the GDP. A similar sized (4-4.5%) commitment to reparations would generate $12-14 trillion which would come out to more than $350,000 per eligible person payable over ten years. Very do-able.
Can we get tax exemption for ADOS while we're waiting for these Reparation studies and researches to be resolved? Just saying, it would be nice to see something basic actually accomplished in my own lifetime.

To do so wouldn't hurt any more than what has already been a part of the discussion - like who is eligible for reparations, as if the government, no matter who is in office, will pay anyone they don't have to. To entertain the question could lead to another consideration - which could be dual citizenship with a country in African of the individual's choice. Of course some country or countries would have to offer it. There is no hiding from the power of superpower anyway.
How about Detroit that's a good place to put you blacks, oh I forgot there are 780000 blacks and 100000 whites in Detroit. Detroit at one time was the murder capital of America, now new Orleans is the murder capital of America.
There was a argument that was made for this in what is known as the Black Belt of the American South. This didn't gain substantial legs because of the geographic isolation but also the economic pull factors of migration of black Americans to where job opportunities would be. The great migration changed the demographic of black America precisely because of the war effort. Labor was needed in the industrial and manufacturing cities which black folk served as the base for. In conclusion, geographic isolation, lack of central economic import and export base within the belt, and the rise of great migration made this idea infeasible.

I'm not familiar with MMT, but common sense say that the tax payers will pay in the end. It will come out of the budget, and thus less funding will be available to pay for the already existing things that must be funded. We already have much to fund - rebuilding the infrastructure, and from the ever increasing destruction from storms and other natural disasters, and likely with continuing pandemics, not to mention wars. There is the option of a peace dividend on the international and domestic levels, but no one wants to entertain that kind of idealism. I proposed it to most of the Democrats running for President, in the last election, by submitting it to their websites. Black intellectuals and woke activist can call for the defunding and abolishment of police and prisons, but this old novel concept is still ignored by most of the world. Even if reparations were to come in whatever form, it is no guarantee that it will eliminate the problems that exist among many Black people. Those who are in a position to benefit from them to some extent, based on their individuality, will and those who are not, will likely not get much out of them. Our problems are not all external, as the woke among us insist we believe. As long as we deny and don't correct the ways we make our situation worse, these problems will likely continue to get worse, until the government steps in with drastic measures of their own. We will never know how much of our problem is racism in all its forms, until we eliminate the internal causes that exist. I believe they are significant. I believe it is more the individual than it is the environment in which we live. If it were, most of us would be living at or below the poverty level. A criminal is often, if not in most cases, the exception in their family. This is the fundamental problem with us on the Left, but with us Blacks especially. All the idealism that we on the Left values is only directed at and asked of the government, but none at the people. Again, those who speak as if they represent all or most Black people, have the attitude that all our problems stem largely from racism in all its form or 'White supremacy and systemic/structural racism. That, from my perspective, is a formula for failure.
Hopefully These Knowledgeable Black Men Will Mentor Our Woke Young People To Carry The Tour h After They Have Long Gone….

Hi, I was at work, so I had to make my comments short. Could you please have Professor Cornel West back on the show and don't let him skate around your questions?
He talked about truth and integrity. But I didn't see that in him in this interview. For the intelligent man I took him to be, I would expect more in his repertoire than the same old blues and jazz analogies. I think Trump has exhibited a broader range of talking points than what Professor Cornel West has done. Even Trump's talking points are crazy at best. At least, he says the most radical thing to play to his supporters. When it comes to reparation, the 1st speaker laid out some great facts he should have been able to capitalize on.
Instead, it seemed he danced around the questions with jazz and blues artists. Those questions, in my opinion, should have received straight, clear answers that told us clearly what he would do or wished to do.
Then please find out if he has been bought out to sabotage his own campaign.
Because I don't see or hear the true efforts in getting his name on the ballots in all the states.
When something doesn't smell right, I want to know why.
Let us know if he tries to blow you off until later. I hope and pray that's not the case. But like he said, "No one is perfect, and his heart is crooked too."

Ronald Reagan did a tax cut in 1981 that amounted to 3% of the GDP. A similar sized (4-4.5%) commitment to reparations would generate $12-14 trillion which would come out to more than $350,000 per eligible person payable over ten years. Very do-able.
