Great first look into the tech behind this helmet. With how light full-face helmets have become, why would you ever want to wear a half shell? It only takes one crash to smash your jaw on any given ride.
The timing is perfect for this release for me, I currently have a Stage and a Gambit and love and hate things about them both, I am hoping this will be the best of both of those. Riding in the south heat management is critical and that is where the stage comes up short compared to the Garmbit. The Gambit though doesn't have fidlock and just doesn't seem to be as comfortable as the Stage with its padding.
Great review and I watched all of full face helmet review videos! Unfortunately I'll with for it to go on sale. Damn it is insane how expensive mtb helmets are compared to motorcycle dirt helmets!
have the exact same Proframe RS in a medium, but having to return it. Im a 56cm head, and also wear a Fox rampage Carbon in medium. The sizing difference was noticeable, the Proframe RS was massive even with the boa at full tightened state. In addition, when compared to a couple of mates who got new helmets last week (Smith Mainline light enduro lid and another brand similar) the minimal padding in the Proframe RS actually makes it quite an uncomfortable helmet too. For the money it cost (£310) it felt a bit...overpriced. Super disappointed in it if Im honest. Great looking lid, but not comfortable for me, or for a couple friends who tried it on (for ref one wears a large proframe...and he found the medium RS roomy.
That's interesting, Drew is a 56cm and after dialing in the internal pads, was able to get it feeling snug. Perhaps your particular helmet came with incorrect thickness pads inside that are meant for another size?
@@TheLoamWolf I think anyone with experience with these type of helmets knows the pads don't do much for fitmet for these helmets. In particular the cheek pads etc are extremely soft and compress to almost 0 thickness. The helmet industry is definitely dropping the ball with fitment for helmets. There needs to be a size between Small and Medium.
I hope one day they make them in XXL or above size (65cm-66cm). I tried the XL for a week and the fit was so excessively tight that putting it on destroys my ears and gave me migraines at every use with no room for coms or sunglasses. I genuinely like how the helmet looks including its features, but the lack of size for the truly big-headed is a major bummer.
I just wish they added the mesh or plastic vents over the chin bar... Nothing like getting debris shot into your helmet when you're following someone... One of the reasons I didn't like my last Proframe.. I would reconsider having that option if they had it, or at least ones that are able to be inserted.. Which would be a cool customizable feature you could work with..
I've crashed and busted 2 of these helmets now, and have had no lasting injuries. They cost $$$ but its worth it to be able to walk away from crashes. Totally worth it in my opinion, great helmets. Light and airy enough to wear for trail rides too, I rarely grab my half shell anymore. For the added safety the full face offers, and as comfortable as it is, a great all round option as well as being optimal for enduro/DH. For what it's worth, one of my crashes was an OTB onto rocks head first at 30kmh, and the other was at 40+kmh down a 1m rock drop where I landed flat on my back and had a rock contact square on the back of the helmet. If you're thinking about buying this helmet, do it.
@@TheLoamWolf I'm currently laid up with a broken leg from the second crash, that was this Saturday just gone 😂 but the main point is the helmet did its job, and my head is still in one piece with not even a concussion or headache. No worries at all 👍
My head is 60cm, 7 1/2 in hat size. The large proframe RS is just a lil bit to big even with it at its tightest. I would say the Sumyt in L fits a hair tighter than the Mhdrn in a L but is still not snug to be a comfortable fit for me. I also tried on Medium for both of those RS models which fit just a lil to tight, almost a perfect fit. Only problem was the shell was too small and almost ripped my ears off removing the helmet. My solution would be a medium inside head liner with a large shell. Ended up Getting the the original proframe in a L. Fits perfect
looks great and love boa but all that open space at the back of helmet around boa adjust worries me a little, hate to catch a pointed rock in there. Question: how is weight and heat/air flow on this for all day trail riding?
Picked one up today and while I use a TLD D4 for park I did a test fit with a Leatt neck brace and it works. If you're using a neck brace though I'd go for a full DH helmet. My D4 is designed with way more focus on neck brace compatibility.
Hey.. has anyone tried to compare the shell size between two sizes Small and Medium, and are they feel totally different when fit with our head.. understand that head size ranging from 54cm - 56cm would fit with those two sizes
My head is 23 inches exactly.....that puts me on the high end of the medium and low end of a large. Should I go medium or large? Would it be better to get a helmet where I have to tighten a lot......or loosen a lot for a good fit.
Thank you so much for the donation. Greatly appreciated. Sadly you are right on the cusp between sizing. You could likely go either way with pad adjustment inside and honestly the size/shape of your face and cheeks will also have a lot to do with it. I’d say if you have a narrow face maybe try small and if you’ve got a fuller face Medium. But I’d just try to but from a shop that allows returns. Or better yet, buy both sizes try them on back to back and return the one that doesn’t feel best.
Hard to call - most of the team is on the same size, but others have had to size down. Try to test the fit prior to buying, or order multiple and return one if you can't get it locally.
I tried these on last week and the medium was way too big. I'm a 55-56 usually in motorcycle lids. The small was ok but even with the BOA as tight as it would go I still felt there was a lot of up-down movement (ie grab the chin bar and lift it) which didn't change even with the thickest cheek pads. I really wanted to buy it but after trying it I walked away. Has anyone managed to stop the up-down movement on theirs? I feel like it would be easy to leave my chin exposed in the event of a crash or for the lid to move down over my eyes a bit in a sustained bumpy descent.
These helmets are super sloppy. I think even in this video you can see how much wiggle there is when he puts it on. But that is how these enduro lids are, soft padding giving the illusion of plushness/protection but the foam is entirely too compressible. With REAL dh helmets, the pads are a lot more firm.. and the way you get the helmet on and off your head is by creating a wider opening by prying open the chin bar by pulling laterally on the straps. It is all a trade off in the end though!
I hope they solved the easily snapping chin guard. I've seen several claims of it with pictures. But I've also seen a video of crashes aa guy jumped a small jump face planted the chinguard snapped, looked like he hit his face or almost did. I've also seen a guy claimed his friend died cus of this helmet. But I don't know if that's true. But it would be interesteing to see some testeing and a review on it. but the new helmet is interesting. There was too much negative on it for me to even try it.
@@mtbboy1993 That would be nice. I just picked up my new Proframe RS today. The fit and build quality is stunning. Better than my Met Paradhute. I’d be dead twice, if it weren’t for a helmet. And, that’s after 18 hours of surgeries. I feel safe wearing this helmet.
I was at the bottom of large for the old proframe and I went with medium for the RS. It's a close fit, but no pressure points. Feels safer and more locked on whereas my Proframe always felt a bit loose at 58.5cm. I couldn't get the original medium Proframe to sit correctly.

Fox (not the tail logo) is so late on this tech. Giro had done it several years ago (look for spherical technology). This Fox proframe rs has no match to Giro insurgent spherical helmet except for the weight and vents.
Looks pretty nice. However I was confused by the comment, "good for light bike park duty". Isn't the helmet dh certified? Why wouldn't it be good for bike park, vs a *real dh helmet? Don't they pass same safety standards?
It's a statement completely based on personal bias/preference. Yes it is DH certified, but we'd still rather wear a full-blown DH helmet for full on bike park/DH bike days. You'll likely not see this helmet on World Cup DH racers heads, again, even though it is DH certified. Take that for what you will.
These enduro full faces all have loose-y goose-y fits. With out without the Boa it doesn't help. Not that it should effect safety. Mips is designed looseness anyway.
