Wandering mage actually is quoted in flavor text of inferno, spined wurm, and shock. I've used that excuse to use her as my cleric tribal commander for years. She seems legendary to me if she is quoted on cards.
Lol, that really sounds like an excuse to my ears. Anyway, it's nice that people play with the card they want as a commander, even if it bends the rules a bit.
I think that the Kamigawa flip commanders should definitely be allowed as commanders, it's frustrating that they're not. Autumn-Tail would be an interesting build around
Anyone else noticed that the Wandering Mage spells out PV96 with the thing that comes out of her staff? It stands for Pete Venters (he illustrated the card) and the year he painted it (1996, the set she comes from is Alliances).
I actually never realized that Chromanticore *wasn't legendary!* Theros came out right before I started college and we had a big commander group at my university, and I swear to god someone used Chromanticore as their commander.
Related to your recent skeleton tribal video, I do believe "Skeletal swarming" should have been slapped on a legendary creature. Love your videos and your angle on the format!
Sages of the anima is a card I’ve been in love with ever since I’ve found out about it, it’s a shame it’s not a legendary. This video however renewed my interest in rule 0ing it into a real deck. Thanks !
Seraph of the Scales is a creature that i wish would be legendary. It wouldn't even be a too interesting Commander but i just love everything about the card. It has one of my favorite artworks in the entire game, i think the flavor of the card is great (Even if i don't understand why it has Afterlife) and the name sounds just good to me.
One of the things that he seem to overlook, Autumn Tail, Kitsune Sage says 1: Move target enchantment enchanting a creature onto another creature. If you pay attention to the wording, that means it doesn't matter if the creature has shroud or protection from creatures. Or hexproof.
Ever since I got two soul fire grandmasters in a dollar bin at my legs I’ve wanted to put them in a commander deck but at the time I had no jeskai commanders so they have stayed in my binder not for trade but just so I know where they are and I feel my play group is lenient enough to let me play with it
Hey demo, nice video as always. In fact I've built one deck with a non legendary creature, I've chosen "Wandering Archaic" which for me it's the most legendary non legendary creature ever. Also very interesting to built around especially if u try no to go heavy on artifacts or eldrazi, instead going for the rare(not so good) colorless non artifact creature/spells. Cheers!
Really great video, once again. Sad to see only the black flip guy in the poll, you got me really curious in a Kitsune Mystic build, finding a nice balance between "good" and "evil" auras. And it offers quite some nice politic possibilites "Hey if you attack that guy, i give you this buff for your creatures" or "Hey if i stop him from attacking/blocking you, would in exchange give me ....?".
Because of your earlier videos, I built 2 Butcher of the Horde decks just 2 weeks ago... one as a voltron deck using lots of gain control of other's creatures features and one as an aristocrats death triggers style. I had a Butcher deck when it was standard... janky as heck, but fun. Thank you for the inspiration.
I got one more commander for you: Craw Giant. The flavor text clearly states that Craw Giant is a giant called Harthag, and normal generic creatures shouldn't have names like that, so he could clearly be thought of as Legendary. He looks really cool as well, and could be a cool casual mono green deck with lure effects like Alluring Scent, Tempting Licid, Lure, etc. The built-in trample also works really well with his rampage ability.
Butcher of the horde would be a crazy strong commander. Would it be the cheapest sac outlet on a General in the game? Would be top tier for aristocrats, but could also go with lifelink or voltron sub theme
I had a Kaldra compleat mono colorless commnder deck a couple months ago. It was crazy fun. Attach it to breaker of armies and watch it exile my opponent's 200 scute swarm
I 100% agree that the Kamigawa flip creatures should be commanders. I mean they 'grown up' to become legendary and even scryfall confuse them as legendary when you're searching for cards. I also think that the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor/Eventide Spirit Avatar cycle should all be legendary. They are all demigods in the lore, the flavour text underlines this, and even have their own aura cards named after them! What more reason do you need! And the art just screams legendary also. My favourite is Godhead of Awe (Steel of the Godhead is the aura). I built a knight tribal deck around it with first strike and horsemanship and a -1/-1 sub-theme. I might build one of the flip commanders too...
I’ve considered these a lot myself but Soulfire Grand Master looked like the most interesting build to me. Firesong and Sunspeaker always looked really neat imo but Boris is already so narrow. I’d love to run them in the 99 with the addition of blue for extra draw and midrange effects.
A non-legendary creature I want to make a commander deck with is Obsidian Fireheart. Mostly because it says "The land continues to burn after Obsidian Fireheart has left the battlefield."
I could for sure see Butcher be a popular commander if it was legendary. People love their aristocrats and a free sac outlet in the zone combined with Mardu's red giving access to token generators like goblins instead of the typical Orzhov or Monoblack.
I think that all versions of flip cards that turn into legendary creatures should be considered commanders. even if it wouldn't be good, i'd love to build a withengar deck.
I think the kamigawa ones should be allowed. The others it'll be fun to have "reprints" that are legendary, with a different name. Maybe slightly changed as well if needed, but that keeps the same idea and flavor as the original
I have started to build a budoka deck, thinking it was legal 😅 Guess I will have to check with my playgroup. Would be great to see how you would build it. I am going for a elemental/treefolk theme.
I've always wanted to build around the Kamigawa flip-legends, but the main person I play with says it's against the rules so they won't play against it 😢 I wish the RC would have counted them as legitimate legends... they really ought to be
The gist plains Walker doesn't bother me because when it's a creature it still maintains it's legendary status. A legendary creature Planeswalker - insect gist. I just imagine they ran out of space. Lol. I think planeswalkers should have transform effects and be creatures on one side.
Soulfire grandmaster would be an extra turn deck, guaranteed. Use damage based board wipes to stall the game, keeping your life total sizable, then time walk to victory
Definitely could be legendary. I actually tried it in my Esix deck as a backup in case someone stole Esix but was always too nervous to get stuck with its effect haha. Currently not in the deck but cool card for sure.
Honestly there's a card that absolutely obsesses me since it was spoiled and I m trying to fit in almost every deck I 'm building and I would really like to build it as a commander. It's Brash taunter. I believe it could be built in several interesting ways and it's just thematically so funny to me. But idk what would most people would think about it. Would you be OK to see it as a commander ?
@@prob094 I was also thinking it would deserve a cool alternative proxy or something for the occasion. But as far as I know his set of abilities is pretty unique, that's why
@@gael_le_cruel Yeah it's very cool. There are a few other creatures with this ability but most don't have indestructible: Stuffy Doll, Spiteful Sliver, Boros Reckoner, Truefire Captain, Spitemare, Mogg Maniac, Ill-Tempered Loner and then some of the 'enrage' cards do something similar. So not 100% unique, but definitely is the best one. Needs a name if you're going to proxy it too! "XXXX, the brash taunter". It still doesn't feel legendary to me but each to their own ✌️

What is the appeal of butcher of the horde? like at best its a 5 mana keyworded 5/4 with you may sacrifice a creature. which is fine but not at all interesting. Wont it play like any other aristocrats deck but instead of a mechanic to spin your wheels around you just get a big body?
Wandering mage actually is quoted in flavor text of inferno, spined wurm, and shock. I've used that excuse to use her as my cleric tribal commander for years. She seems legendary to me if she is quoted on cards.

If you end up building soulfire grandmaster make sure to make it a zirda companion deck
good idea

Herald of leshrac goes in my blip the comedic genius deck. Steal lands, them give them to other players for damage.
Master of the Wild Hunt would be a great mono green commander
A non-legendary creature I want to make a commander deck with is Obsidian Fireheart. Mostly because it says "The land continues to burn after Obsidian Fireheart has left the battlefield."
You forgot Guile. He's so commander-like (counterspell tribal!) that most people use him as the 'hidden commander' for Jalira decks.

Draugr Necromancer would've been a cool commander, if he were legendary. Sort of a Dauthi Voidwalker thing going on.
Not sure if you’ve covered it, but Essence of the Wild would be neat, as long as the copies don’t become legendary. Its kinda like Essix.
