No offense intended, but all he's doing is reading cue cards with Bogart's original 1942 dialogue. It's not as if he sat down and wrote this stuff himself. He's not nailing the talk as much as he's repeating it, word for word. :)

That's a new made up term. There's no such thing.
It's in theater what's called standard stage accent,or General American.
And what Simmons was doing, wasn't an accent at all.
He got the style, quick paced pattern of that era of dialogue in films, but that's not an accent

Watching this again I’m impressed by her imitation of Ingrid’s voice, with the 30’s movie voice, plus Ingrid’s accent, it’s wonderful.

Ed Miller tell me how. To me it’s very American which I usually find very hit or miss and silly and prefer dry subtle British humour but this is such a good satirical take on something so iconic
I love how Kate stares into the middle distance instead of looking Rick in the eyes. She really captured that odd eyeline from the classic movies.
I was thinking same thing, such a small detail but makes whole sketch even better...

***** yeah but obviously Wiig is much more accomplished and has created an incredible career for herself . She is the only female SNL cast member i can see winning an oscar because she's a very good dramatic actress and now she is also directing a movie. After she leads Ghostbusters of course!

I am convinced that this is one of the best SNL sketches ever. It is perfectly written and perfectly executed. Both JK Simmons and Kate McKinnon do their parts way more than merely justice. Kate is, of course, being her comedic self. But JK is perfect. He does Bogart without actually DOING Bogart. And he keeps a completely straight face through the whole sketch. I doubt I could have done that.
I watched Casablanca with my daughter a couple of weeks ago (August 2021). She had never seen it even though it's one of my all time favorites. Why? She's a Millennial and not fond of black-and-white, old AF, movies. As soon as it was over, I fired up RUclips and played her this sketch. She laughed her ass off. Made my heart swell watching her appreciate something I revere so much.
It's this or "Meet Your Second Wife."

This is the funniest skit I've seen in a long time. I laughed during the whole scene. My wife and I love watching Casa Blanca on a nice weekend with a bottle of Pinot Noir and cheese. This lady was so good at comical expression. I don't much about her but she did wonders at many small roles with her skill of finding funny links in different aspect of some Euro or Yank culture. Full marks to her and the director.
I've watched this clip so many times, and I'm pretty certain that the "no no no Richard no" at 1:31 is reactive improvisation to fill up the time between the cue card change to the next line. And she continues to use "no Richard no" in a more planned manner after hearing the audience's reaction during her improv. She's brilliant
