A fair comment but I did use a different amp and guitar on that first video. Just for fun I might try to recreate that environment with this V3, which I actually like more.
+Brett Kingman I'd be curious to hear that for sure. I've already got a plexi-in-a-box with my rothwell hellbender, but I love the way these are laid out and how they look ;)
I have version 3 and there is a very important trick: normal channel volume should be always less than the bright channel, regardless of the total amount of gain. otherwise, there will be a huge bump in low mids, like as you have backed off guitat tone knob on neck pickup for woman tone or just as you set a wah pedal for low mid bump. back off normal knob on marvell and problem is solved. :)
Hey brett, i own a dls mk3 and has been my favourite marshall type pedal. But really considering this one cause for me it sounds closer to a marshall. The dls sounded muddy after hearing this demo. Just wondering about the 9v, 18v toggle switch. Do you have to change the power supply from 9v to 18v when you switch the toggle?
almost sounds like fuzz on the lower frequencies to me, is that just this video?. I'm torn between this pedal and the animal rockett, anybody have any input?
I just bought this pedal a few days ago and was not totally impressed at first although it is starting to grow on me. With all respect to Brett I think this is the worst I've heard him sound. lol. It does sound more like a fuzz in this video, not so much in real life.
i had a ehx hot tubes, the tube version, very raw and great dynamics, liked the sound very much, but very big pedal and wierd power supply makes it not so practical
+James Montegomery no i didn't played the nano version but i like what i heard on youtube...if you like raw, fuzzy overdrives check out the catalinbread formula 55 and sft, moog mf drive, fairfield barber shop, death by audio interstellar overdriver, snarling dogs tweede, earthquaker devices bellows ;-)
I have this pedal, its more old school Marshalls dirt rather than JCM800 high gain / mid tone brown sound from the 80's. For $250 AU dollars its better value than the Wampler and to my ears does a spot on job creating 60-70's style tones, nails it better than any pedal I've tried or owned. Loves the bridge pickup on Strats and Les Pauls, as for neck pickups you need to work the controls or it can get a little muddy / fuzz like, which some people will actually love. Looking forward too to the Friedman BE-OD too, this will be high gain modern goodness in a box.
@@frankie4321 Thanks Frank. Currently running high treble at 2 o’clock / normal at 11 o’clock, master at 12 o’clock and presence at 2 o’clock. Got a pretty good thump and very nice Marshall gain quality. Thing I'm not too happy about is clarity , that is to say, note definition. That may be the function of the amp ( Marshall DSL40) and not the pedal though. How is your note definition with the Marvel FX.?
thanks for this review. Impressed that this pedal can handle the high gain.
The quick "My Woman From Tokyo" riff sounded pretty darn smart . . . this is an interesting Plexi pedal . .
I have a viral condition affecting my ears at the moment, and this sounds a bit 'fizzy'-I'll check it out in a few days for comparison!
I don't think it's fizzy but springy just like some Marshals I recently watched on Johann Sedgborn's YT channel. The pedal seems quite accurate to me.
Muddy ?
I loved how that sounded with low output singles WOW......
I don't know if the guitars, or the amps or the pedal itself, but I think you got much better sounds out of version one when it first came out...
I was thinking the same thing, wait for a second hand version 1 from eBay.

That's because he used an SG. Mahogany guitars just sound better, imho

HEY BRETT great demo yet another brand i will have to look out for.by the way have you done any demos on the brand SVI SOUND?.thanks ben

I actually like the mxr fod pedal better, but great review

No. Done internally.
Sounds great Bret, I wonder how it would sound with my old twin.???
Superb! trust me...
COOL, thanks.
Mr. Kingman, could you please do another snippet using your Laney VH100, please?
I feel like a 7.6 volt setting would be perfect. 👍🤘
VL Pedal Power Sag.

@@waskele.wabbit717 I ended up buying the pedal and selling it at this point. I actually loved it and regret selling it now.
dude...
I love how raw it sounds. Anyone know of any other pedals that are comparable to this, or just raw in nature?

livinthesound Thanks! I've heard of that, I'll have to check it out. Have you played the recent reissue?

livinthesound man, you are a treasure trove of good information! Haha, thanks a ton! :D
+James Montegomery hehe, it's a pleasure to help someone on the same quest! check out also the jhs modded double muff and ews little fuzzy drive...
This or Wampler plexi-drive?
why?
How would you say this compares to the Wampler Plexi-Drive, or even the new Friedman BE-OD?
I haven't had either pedal but going off of videos I'd say the Marvel is more like a real Marshall but the Wampler sounds better ;)

What settings do you use. I have this pedal too.
BanditPanda high treble at 2 o’clock, normal at 2 o’clock, master at 10 o’clock and presence at 1 o’clock , works for me 👍🏽

Not a fan of this, especially with single coils...
congrats brett , you managed to make the best plexi pedal in the market sounds like ass:))
Thanks! Your opinion means the world to me.
Sounds very thin and fizzy...
Nope
Great guitar work… mediocre pedal.
