He probably should be prefacing these vids with a disclaimer stating it is for informational purposes only and does not condone or promote the use like the big drug channels do.

Salvia are amazing. Well, I started doing drugs 23 years ago as a teenage, got addicted to cocaine. Spent my whole life fighting cocaine addiction. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Cocaine addiction actually destroyed my life. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

there have been quite a few people attempting it on youtube, some successful, some not so much but it appa the synthesis is finicky, but tbh sodium metal is pretty cheap if you know the right places

Pack a column with the leaf material, chill it, then use ice cold MEK as your pulling solvent. Distill the MEK off. Next, when it's mostly gone, wash with warm naphtha or hexane as well as water.. Distill again for a bit to remove the last bit of MEK and chill in the fridge to let the layers separate . The SA will be in the water layer and stuck to the flask, while the organic layer will have fats, carotenoids, and waxes. Separate the two. Next, weakly acidify the water, and add DCM or chloroform to the flask. Do several pulls, the SA will dissolve in this layer. The water layer will have the garbage in it.

To get purer product you could also make a column from activated charcoal and use a hexane/ethyl acetate (40/60) solvent mixture to elute your product, then recrystallize from methanol to get crystals without any color impurity. The activated charcoal will take all the non polar/hydrophobic compounds like chlorophyll completely out of the mixture. You could skip the washes and just go straight from extract, filter, column, recryst. with activated charcoal.

How terrible of an idea is it to consider a DIY version that doesn’t run thousands of RPM, but can settle solids out of a liquid in larger quantities? I don’t have a specific use, but those little ones seem built for running many samples for bio or medical labs - which I have zero interest in.

Good job! Still want to say, as a drug researcher and safety advisor, please, *no one treat Salvia without the utmost seriousness!* Practice harm reduction, do EXTENSIVE research, NEVER have something like this be ANYWHERE near the first substance you try (work your way up in intensity over time..), and be aware that things like this can cause permanent trauma, disorders, and more to occur. If you do decide to be stupid with it, and devoid yourself of these safeties deliberately, then at least go all the way and post a video of it. I'm sure it will lose its sense of humor in the making of it.
Oh, and P.S., Salvinorin A isn't really a psychedelic. It's a very atypical hallucinogen that I've heard more people compare to dissociatives, mostly. But it will have a wide range of effects between psychedelic, dissociative, and deliriant-seeming ones.
This is the mistake I've seen sooo many people when I was younger make ... "Oh it's legal so it can't be that potent" .... Oh how wrong you can be! xD

Can confirm. As someone who has done every drug you've heard of and a handful you maybe haven't, Salvia is on a whole other level. More vivid and intense than DMT. If you "get there" with Salvia, it's like being thrust into a very intense dream, and you won't remember that you've taken a drug. Meanwhile, there is often no disconnect from your actual body, so actions you take in this dream state may play out in the real world, with your real body, which can be physically dangerous.
Honestly I would give it another go, but I'd need to be strapped down to a chair.
@@timothymcguire5126 Yeah pretty much. All drugs start off legal, but it's only when there's issues with people "abusing" them that the gov steps in to ban it. Salvia is nasty, and only diehard psyconaughts mess with it, so it's stayed off the govs radar (they know it exsists, but have no motivation to spend the time making laws about it as in totality it poses little treat to the wider population because barely anyone wants to take it).
I encourage people to watch videos of people doing salvia on RUclips if you are ever thinking about trying it. After watching a few, I am going to pass. I have read accounts of people doing it and report living entire lifetimes in the few minutes the intoxication and altered reality lasts. That pretty much assured me that I will never do it.
if anyone wants a reason NOT to try salvia, let me regale you of my one good attempt.
so i had tried it many times before, but at a very low level buzz, just feeling like i'm being pressed down into the couch kind of feeling. This last time my friend had the pipe and he held it in, and then got very crazy, going around the room smashing shit. I got jealous of how high he got and not to be outdone, I took an even bigger hit and held it in longer.
the next thing I know, I feel like I'm trapped in a giant circus tent that's collapsing and I'm THRASHING about trying to escape that shit.
I come to my friend holding my hands in a towel that was slowly drenching in blood and covered in stanky bong water. whilst thrashing about in this insane drugged out illusion, I had knocked over and broken the bong, and then I kept mashing the broken glass with my hands. I ended up having to dig out giant pieces of glass from my hands and let me tell you, the alcohol rinse after was harsh as fuck to say the least. 1/10 would not do it again.
the lesson here I've been told after the fact, is get yourself flat as soon as you take the hit cuz then you're probably not getting back up to do damage whilst you're completely incapacitated from reality, and your friends should be watching you to keep you from mashing glass

Try freezing the salvia as well, having both parts cold will lower the solubility of the chlorophyll and other plant matter! I’d also use a reusable tea/coffee filter to separate the two as much as possible when first infusing! Every second counts: the waxes, lipids, chlorophyll, etc. dissolve along with terpene like substances pretty fast in my experience; the second wash truly just makes your process harder(honestly a minute might be overkill itself, you want a golden color to the solvent at the most)! Not to play backseat chemist lol, love the channel and hope this idea continues to be grown upon!

salvia is one of the strongest psychedelics out there, fun stuff. sadly it recently got banned where i live. but thankfully anything related to mycology or ayahuasca is still fully ok here.
an amazing therapy tool that's helped me overcome many hurdles in the mental department.
sadly reaction vids on youtube really demonized salvia and was a big component into getting it banned.
Why are psychedelics banned in so many places? Most of them aren't addictive or as harmful as things like cocaine or meth.

@@oitthegroit1297 cause psychosis in someone that has a tendency towards mental issues, change someones personality, sometimes (very, very rarely) people get "stuck" during their trips and trip for way longer than they reasonably should be able to.
All of those are very rare, but because they can happen, everyone wanting to do psychedelics should be informed about those risks beforehand, especially people in 'dark places' mentally, or people with some kind of mental issues like bipolar, schizophrenia or similar stuff
@@oitthegroit1297 the same way a person coming back from a war might not be same person that went to war in the first place you could hallucinate and see something bad enough to get PTSD which I think is the cause of people saying they're getting acid flash backs it's really PTSD manifesting itself in the shoe's on acid on the other hand I've seen someone go from smoking and drinking all Day do coke to tripping and not being addicted anymore I think it's more mushrooms that or know for helping people with PTSD or addiction it's also possible for it cause PTSD kinda crazy it's a fix and a solution

The alkaloids called mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine are said to produce the recreational effects. But the plant contains over 50 alkaloids that are speculated to work synergistically.
Alkaloids are found in many plants and I'm sure that there is a way to extract them in their pure form but I don't know how.
Chemdelic could invent a new potent drug here that would be legal in many countries.

Basic acid/base extract with recrystallization.
Salvia extract is weird. Not pleasurable, but an interesting experience I've had a handful of times. My last experience I bought very strong extract, and it was so intense. I blacked out, saw a weird orange rainbow, and came to sitting on a couch in another room a few minutes later. Scared the hell out of me.
At this point a small silica column might let you separate the remaining components.

It would be worth doing a cold Butane Extract. Just put together a Honey Tube like for Bud.
You can then add EtOH and freeze to Winterize out the Tars and Waxes. Filter after a few days of freezing.

Never extract with butane thru an open tube.
A couple hundred bucks will get you a dead simple closed loop from BVV.
There is a reason butane extractions are done in a C1D1 environment.

You need to use Anhydrous Acetone. Add Zeolite beads directly to the Acetone and freeze. Acetone forms an Azeotrope with Water.

Did this and smoked it....out a pipe with some erb, I still cry when trying to describe the experience to people as it was so intense. Acetone extract of 40 grams. Weighed out 100 MG .01 (smallest my scale would weigh) and took the ride of my life

I work at a extraction company, we extract thc and cbd from hemp. We use super chilled ethanol(-32f) mixed with the hemp vs acetone.

From the looks of this, I think its great until the naphtha wash, but the water/IPA washes look lossy for not much purity gain. I think doing a silica column instead of the polar washes would be a lot better.
What does it take in time and money to set up a silica column? I switched from chemistry to computers, and missed a lot of interesting stuff.
@@firstmkb It is a hassle if you do not have everything ready. There are many different kinds of silica powder you can find online, and unless you are buying from a lab supplier it might not be suitable for a column. Also you need quite a bit of solvent volume usually. And it can take multiple hours. So if you have everything ready, a couple hours at best, but more likely an entire weekend if you include cleaning out the column and complications in general.

Naphtha has carcinogenic aromatics like ethylbenzene in it, so I would use n-heptane if possible, which isn't quite as risky (assuming one is consuming the final product). Bestine is a stamp remover, I believe, and is like 99% n-heptane if I'm not mistaken, but that's just my cursory knowledge about this stuff.
Mine is not for consumption but if it was then I would use n-heptane!
There are a lot of dimethyltryptamine extraction methods that use naphtha and then wait for it to evaporate to be left with dmt crystals.. is that not actually safe? I read that there may still be residual naphtha in the crystals that were not able to evaporate so that doesn’t sound good for your health if you consume them
@@MnemonicHeadTrip in pharma the last evaporation steps on active ingredients are usually conducted with non toxic solvents exactly for this reason, you can never remove quite 100% of the solvent and if you used DCM or benzene the consumer is going to get exposed to minute amounts of it with each pill.
Non chlorinated brake cleaner is composed of heptane, however I don't know if it's pure heptane or not.

I have done a few extractions. Not the kind you are, but oils. I have gotten a good chlorophyll free extraction with butan/propan (what ever is in lighter gas) under pressure.
Butane really doesn't work with the extraction part, but the cleaning part rather.

I have a question, is there anything else you can use other than Naptha? I.. I mean, I have a friend.. who used Naphtha with Mimosa Hostilis root bark and it would take on a slightly brown color and taste like Naphtha when partaking in it. Which cant be healthy, so I'd like to recommend to my friend something else thats not as oily as naphtha.
Heptane would work I think (You just need a non-polar solvent). I am doing a video soon on heptane and diethyl ether from starting fluid soon along with ether reaction and production!
n-Heptane will work for your friend. While trying to source some heptane, try taking a small amount (15-20ml) of your naphtha and put it into an evap dish (shot glass works) and see if it leaves any residue behind. If there is anything left at all, you have contaminated naphtha.
This testing of solvent contamination is good idea to do with any new containers of solvents, so you know what you're working with before you spend a lot of time and energy into extracting something that might have contams in the final product.
Additionally, the color could be sodium hydroxide contamination. Are you using a separatory funnel? If so, there's no shame in letting the tiniest bit of solvent drip into your NaOH solution just to be sure no NaOH stays behind. I've also started tipping my sep funnel over and decanting the solvent out like a flask to remove my heptane because there are always a few droplets of NaOH solution stuck to my sep funnel's drip tube. But if I do happen to get some dark NaOH droplets into my solvent beaker, I've noticed the droplets stick to the borosilicate glass, so if I swirl just right, and pour gently, I can always leave behind the NaOH.

Although, I've gotten pure snowflake crystals of nnDMT with a cold straight to base extract method, without the purification. Additionally, I vacuum purge all organic extracts.

Distill it with liquid propanol, its done the same way for THC. Just get the small cans from the gas station you use for refilling lighters.

You can improvise a decent preparative chromatography column out of a 50mL syringe and if alumina is suitable you can source it from dentistry supplies with known granulation, silica gel is also advised but at least do a gradient elution and try this out on a small 1mL scale first just to practice
