Love this. Not everyone could understand how easy it is to actually only be able to get water one time a week. As a child in Germany after living in Huntington Beach CA. The 4 of us kids would get to take a bath in the same 4 inches of warm water every week or so. I was the youngest so I got it cold and dirty. Lol. Not that we didn't have water. It was the price to heat it. Ours took coal. Most people in the village had electric heat. We also didn't have a refrigerator. We had a cool room. I believe that time in my life made me understand a simpler life. That was 1971 and I was 8 years old.
There should be signs of where the leak is. You shouldn't need to dig up the whole line, just where the leak is. The ground will be very soft there, or the grass or weeds will be growing very well there. It can be repaired. It may be muddy digging but the water should have softened up the dirt in the area. Water travels downhill, so start digging closer to the top of the wet area. Once you figure you are close, turn the water on and have a look in the hole. It will become obvious which direction you need to keep digging. The line should be in a fairly direct line between the city line and the house. People don't tend to dig trenches longer than necessary.
The line zigs and zags apparently...they went around boulders and over creeks Keep in mind...there are no rules here and things are done in unconventional ways. . But there are 2 very distinct wet areas and they think they the leak is in the bend...but they couldn't find the bend (not sure how hard they looked) . I'll get another crew to look at it in the spring. Thanks Danny
Wow, you and your daughter are troopers gathering water and filtering. Some of the comments about finding the leak makes sense, I hope this is doable for you in the future. Otherwise, you've got a really nice spot. i was looking for the chickens, hope they are well and you are enjoying fresh eggs. Don't worry about the tooth, you look fine. I have mine pulled one at time, whenever they go bad. Fixing them is way beyond budget. You survived Covid? That is great news. Did your smoking have any effect? I've been a heavy smoker for 42 years, and wonder what effect that might have. The obituaries in the local paper are quadrupled, daily, what they normally are, and this is rural northcentral PA. Many blessings to you Sue, and looking forward to your gardening video. I should take heed, and plant myself a garden.
These damn chickens are freeloaders. Ha. No eggs until spring so I just have to wait. Regarding dental issues....that's been my plan too Greg. Ha. I was set to have them all pulled and get dentures but Covid stopped that. So maybe next year I'll do something. Yes, I had Covid very early on. I thought my unhealthy ways had caught up with me...yes the cough was bad but what was more worrisome was my blood pressure and fatigue. I was waiting for the big one. Tried to stop smoking, eat better, take a walk etc, went to the Drs and had heart and lung tests.....and then after a couple months I felt better and Covid was common knowledge and I thought...oh I just had Covid...so I went back to my slovenly ways. Ha. I had the garden vid all ready to go...and now my movie maker stopped working......coming soon though. Now is the time to dream and scheme about gardens.
It should be easy to find the leak if you leave the water on long enough. Our water bill has just $7.00 last month. I thought wow! Is this right? We keep the grandkids after school every day. The 4 yr old will go to the bathroom and the next thing I realize is the water has been running a while. I have to tell her to turn the water off. I don't know if it's something she has learned at school with COVID or if she just like to wash her hands, but she soaps up and rubs her hand until the soap turns thick and white. She really works those hands around too, like she is washing for surgery. LOL I also do a couple loads of laundry a week. Their parents are divorced so I have to make sure the clothes they come in from mom's is washed so they can wear them home when they go back to her. Some weeks they go once and some weeks they go twice. So that's double the laundry. I just throw our clothes in with theirs so it cuts down on water and my time. LOL HUGS~Donna
$7? Mine is $34 minimum...even if we never use it. I'm allowed 2k gallons a month for that and then they charge extra. I doubt that I use 500 gallons a month even with the leak. We have an idea, now, where it is but it was beyond the scope of the guys that put the spigot in. I might make another attempt in the spring. LOL, "like she is washing for surgery" ...kids are so funny. Happy New Year.
