    @Welcome To An Experience:
    Now that railfans no longer have rail fan windows on today's rolling stock (the R-32's being that last ones, now gone forever), your videos are now THE GO-TO SOURCE for HIGH-QUALITY, HIGH-DEFINITION rfw videos here on RUclips. Prior to your series, most if not ALL amateur RFW videos were fuzzy, dark, underexposed, and low-definition. Now you came along and have given us incredibly bright and sharp videos!! In fact the only thing better would be if the crew of the Track Geometry Trains filmed RFW videos as a side-project for fans while they are assigned their rounds!! But this would never happen---but it HAD BEEN PROPOSED to the head of the MTA to do so for a profit to the MTA, but it has been vehemently refused by MTA brass. Now YOU HAVE MADE THE DREAMS OF RFW FANS COME TRUE! It is my hope that, in time, you may be able to offer us videos of all lines and in both directions per each train. If that is not on your agenda, then we will love and treasure whatever amount of videos you CAN provide! Bravo!!

    Thank you soooo much for making and posting this excellent video. I’m always amazed how well the IRT lines were designed and constructed. I’m sure the designers and builders had no idea their work would not only still be used in the far-off year 2022 but would remain just as vital as when it was first built. The 4 line is ancient - some of it dates to the original IRT line of 1904, some of it was opened as part of Contract 2 in 1908 and the newest is the Dual Contracts portion from 1918. There are so many historical artifacts to see on the line - the old Ninth Avenue/Polo Grounds Shuttle connection just north of 161st Street Station in the Bronx, the fantastically designed stations on the 1904 portion, the closed 18th and Worth Street stations (unfortunately Worth was blocked by a 6 train on the local track), the severed connection at Fulton Street, the old connection to South Ferry south of Bowling Green - it’s all just amazing to see.

    19:51 when I was a kid going to the old Yankee Stadium with my dad I thought it was so cool how the 4 trains up on the el were part of the scene inside the stadium. This exact spot is where you could see the trains between the main right field stands and the bleachers. In those days there were a mix of R62s and R33s on the line, the latter in their redbird livery near the end of their career. Whenever he’d spot a train of R33s through the gap my dad would claim the “red train of death” was an omen that something big was about to happen in the game.
    My dad, the stadium, the R33s, my interest in baseball, and that cool view are all long gone now, but it’s a fun memory. Actually *riding* the 4 on game days was a rarity, though…One of my dad’s many colorful quirks was his hatred of the IRT ever since he was a kid in Brooklyn in the ‘50s so if we took the train up it was almost always the D.

And it's interesting seeing how close Wall Street Station is to Fulton too. That subway system along that 4 line has some cool views underground. All right full 4 line video! Much appreciated! It seems that there may have been a different track configuration at Woodlawn as the iron work can be seen (to the left as the train departs) for a 3rd track runs up to the tower. Perhaps the middle track ran up there with a bumper block? Truly a rare sight at 1:47 to see the old wooden walkways (on the right) vs the new steel yellow or faded white by the sun. Really unusual to see 2 train yards right next to each other, especially when 1 is IRT & the other is IND/BMT. Guess they were running out of real estate when planning the system & just went with it. Really makes it easy for work trains to change divisions. The strange thing about Concourse yard is that it's on the other side & has to cross under the of the IRT Jerome Ave line. Really odd to see ballast as the southern half of Bedford Park BLVD & after the station also, not to mention the trash & soon to be forest growing on the tracks, but I read that the neighborhood demanded something to dampen the sound of trains. I know of other places that would like to have that also. Is it just me or did the track workers after Bedford Park BLVD fail to set up green flags for trains to know when the work area is over & can resume normal speed? Going into Burnside Ave at 10:57 on the right you can see the old iron work for the crossover to the express track. This station differs as when you leave the station, in both directions, there are 2 single crossovers instead of a "X" double crossover. I wonder if that is a cost saving method or not. I also noticed after Burnside Ave the signal stop arms changed from the ones that went straight up & more common on the IRT to the ones that rise to around 45 degrees & more common on the BMT/IND, wonder why the change? Just before entering 167th St you can see the single crossovers that were used by the Polo Grounds shuttle (Formerly 9th Ave EL). The shuttle terminated at 167th St, used the express track to lay up & reverse directions, start again at 167th St then descend below the line & head west to cross the Harlem River back into Manhattan. Could you imagine if the NY Giants still played there? The 159th St elevated train yard was located just north of the Polo Grounds for the 9th Ave EL. images.cf.nycsubway.org/images/i141000/img_141122.jpg Such a crazy track configuration in the vicinity of 125th street to just after Times Square. Back in the 90's I used to take the 7 to Times square & the 4 or 5 to Union Square for work. It was always fast! At 38:11 on the right you can see a glimpse of the local track from how this line originally ran up 42nd Street to Broadway. Right before Union Sq is the site of the Union Square wreck & where the old pocket track use to be. It was a weird design that they placed a center track at Spring St instead of closer to an express stop, cool part of history though! www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?17488 Nevins Street is a unique station for several reasons. it has the unused lower level, the space in the middle for an additional 5th track & the layup track between Nevins St & Atlantic Ave. What also stands out to me is that the signal leaving the station can only show red or yellow. This is probably like this to keep trains at a lower speed to reduce wear on the switches ahead. More sections of ballast before Franklin Ave. I'm thinking that the areas that don't have ballast were where they had to repair the roadbed & just declined to re-lay the ballast. After Franklin Ave there is another oddity in that offsetting crossover that takes the 5 line across the 3 line at grade to join the 2 & this section becomes multi-leveled with Utica Ave/New Lots Ave bound trains on the upper level & Manhattan bound trains on the lower level. It's surprising that they didn't or weren't able to go underneath or over as most other lines do. Right after Kingston Ave & just before Utica Ave looks like there were crossovers there at one time. Once at Utica Ave it almost takes you by surprise & feels like the line should continue & it might have continued if plans for the IRT & IND Second System had been allowed. To accommodate the expansion proposals, the line east of the station divides into three routes. Just outside the station on the local track are bellmouths leading south in Utica Avenue for the proposed Utica Avenue line. This was not preempted by the later IND plan for such a route but an alternative. From time to time the one or the other plan is resurrected, only to sink and die again. East of Utica Avenue the tracks in the tunnel split into the present New Lots line and a set of layup tracks. These tracks lie under Pitkin Avenue and are intended to continue the IRT east in that street. The tunnel mouth between Utica Avenue and Sutter-Rutland is an early example of a split-level portal. Wow. This has been one of the most special and amazing comments we have received thus far. Thank you so much for taking the time to sit and educate us by sharing your knowledge of the system; both past and present. We appreciate how you were able to carefully point out all the details that have changed and the ones that remain the same, while being knowledgeable and able to explain them both. As for the green resume flag not being seen, train operators have been instructed to resume normal speed anytime after they make a station stop and don’t see a green resume or to utilize the signal markers to also have an idea of when they are allowed to resume normal speed. Yes it is unfortunate that there isn’t a flag and being that we don’t know why there wasn’t one, we won’t judge them from the outside but rather send them positive energy that moving forward, they are able to ensure that the flag is there. We also want to thank you for sharing those links where people can click on and learn more about your breakdown of elevated train yard and of course the spring street center track. It was also wonderful that you gave credit to nycsubway.org so folks can also go here to learn more and pick up from all of the knowledge you have given us. It was a pleasure for you to gives us a breakdown of the areas you are familiar with from the Bronx and all the way to Brooklyn. We are so grateful for you and your support and we hope that we can continue to earn it. Thank you so much.

    Another fun filled ride! The 4 train is quite fast, especially in the tunnel sections. I liked the spots where we could see the R-62's running local beside us and the spots where we play catch up or race by them on the express track. The year before the old Yankee Stadium was torn down, I did get to see a ball game there. I took the 4 from downtown Manhattan to 161 Street-River Avenue. That view coming out of the tunnel was great. The Yanks won over the Angels 12-0 that day. The other reason I went there was to see the place where all the Yankee greats past and present called their home. Also, I wanted to see the place where the Pittsburgh Pirates (my home team) won Games 4 and 5 of the 1960 World Series to bring Games 6 and 7 back to Forbes Field. In 2014, the Pirates split a double header with the Yankees at the new stadium. The home team won the first game, the Pirates won the second, marking their first win at Yankee Stadium in 54 years! Thanks for the ride! Looking forward to more!

You truly do very hard and tirelessly for us fans and we really appreciate all the things that you do. Keep up the amazing work. I’m also a little curious as to how you manage to get a big team like this? You always seem to amaze me with all the surprises you provide for the fans. And I would love for you to keep this up. As for how we achieved these camera angles, that video is coming soon as many have asked before. As for the team, it’s always easier when you have folks who believe in the end goal of the work we do. This is only the beginning; our main reason for doing this is yet to come but when you have members that believe, though it may seem like work, we do it with pleasure. You guys deserve to enjoy this experience while all we ask is that we continue to give credit to the NYCT employees.

    4 train extension down Utica Avenue remastered, let’s go.
    The 4 would branch off south from Crown Heights - Utica Avenue to go down along Utica Avenue.
    First station-
    Empire Blvd - Lefferts Av (or just Empire Blvd for short) - accessible, side platform, cool designs, and connection to the B12, B17, B46, and B46 SBS.
    The line would go elevated, and pretty high up, maybe a few meters taller than the Flushing Line (7, ) and the Livonia Avenue Line (3).
    This is to keep the bus lanes intact and the noise to be muffled a bit more.
    And the geography of mid-south Brooklyn.
    There would be a middle track forming, which I believe could be a potential express service along Utica Avenue, which could benefit riders. What do y’all think? It would stop at Empire Boulevard and skip Winthrop Street. Then it would go on and skip the side platform stops and stop at the island platform stops.
    Next station-
    Winthrop Street - elevated, accessible, side platform, ordinary design, and connection to the B46 and B46 SBS.
    Elevated, along Utica Avenue.
    Church Av - accessible, island platform, cool designs, and connection to the B35, B46, and B46 SBS.
    Elevated, along Utica Avenue!
    Next stop!-
    Clarendon Rd - accessible, side platform, ordinary designs, and connection to the B46 bus service.
    Next stop-
    Kings Highway - Avenue H (just Avenue H for short, since the stop would be mainly located there) - accessible, side platform, nice designs, and connection to the BM2, B6, B7, B46, B46 SBS, and B103 bus services.
    Elevated, along Utica Avenue.
    Next and last stop-
    Flatlands Av - accessible, island platform, elevated, very cool architecture, entrances and tile placement, and connection to the BM1, B46, B46 SBS, B82, and B82 SBS.
    Announcements soon

All the research I've done about my dad's years in NYC has really helped me know a lot. One of the venues he performed in there was the Roseland Ballroom. I guess that was a big deal back then. He made several recordings at RCA Victor and a few other labels. Much of my screenplay is set in NYC. I even have an exciting subway scene in it! Thanks again and blessings to you!

I don't like those trains, because of the way they move and they always make that humming sound! I prefer the R142a 4 trains, because of the company Kawasaki! know this might be a dumb question but how do trains change tracks? Like for example the 4 and 6 are running on the same track, then the 4 switches to the express track and the 6 stays on the local. Is there like a scanner or monitor that sees if its an express/local train and switches the tracks accordingly, or does the operator push a button?

    • @wtaenyc
      @wtaenyc  7 месяцев назад +2

      Great question and shoutout to you for asking. The subway system utilizes switches, governed by the tower operators, that are used to divert trains from one track to another. Like an ATC, these operators have a system in place that helps them locate all trains present within in system, diverting them as needed. Some switches do require a button to be pushed, alerting the tower operator of the direction required for the continuation of the train's journey.
