Today was the big Hamilton meetup! I have always wanted to hear an HOR Super Sirex (technically this one is a Sirex No.15), so after moving to SW Ohio and being within 45 minutes of one I wasn't about to pass up the opportunity to go see it. This is a 7/10 port siren; very unique to hear in person.
Not a whole lot else to say, except I had a ton of fun. Met up with Bruin (StormWarning04), Aiden (Sirens of SW Ohio), Jonathan (Tri-State Sirens), and sorta with Jeremy and Dominic (SuperSirex127).
The siren was pretty loud, and while the rotation doesn't do a whole lot up close, it does seem to help somewhat project the sound once you're much further away.
In the beginning, you can hear an ambience of Hamilton's Thunderbolts (which go off on the first round of tones). At first, we had thought this siren failed as I didn't know Butler County did two separate sets of tones, and apparently this one goes off on the second set. You can also hear FSK polling all the sirens in the county during and after the test (except the few older sirens elsewhere in the county that use the DTMF). All in all, this was a great test, and it was an awesome experience. Enjoy!
Yes, I did chop most of the chopper wind down out of the video to save space (and make this video 6 and a half minutes long instead of 8 and a half minutes).
Sirens in Butler County are tested on the First Wednesday of each month at noon, weather-permitting.

Nice! This is a holy grail among modern sirens!
Thanks! Sure is!
It is
Another rare Devil’s interval siren!
Truly biblical experience this was. Awesome video.
Thanks! Sure was an amazing experience.
That siren has seen better days
Sure has, although it was put up in 1954, so it's been up there for quite a while. Perhaps they'll repaint it at some point.
Crocodile Playz still chugging along perfectly
Paint jobs don't tell you everything, just becuase the paint has faded, doesn't mean the siren isn't still healthy as can be.
As much as I'm stickler for filming unrecorded sirens, this one is a major exception. I will never get tired of seeing videos of this siren.
If you get a chance since you live near here now, you should try for an ambiance shot.
Thanks! I'll definitely be coming back to try an ambience shot of this one at some point.
@@sirenfreak57 Awesome! If you do, I'd try somewhere to the south of the HOR. I think theres a pretty sweet harmonization between it and one of the higher pitched Bolts to the south that I heard in a different video, but not quite as much when I did it.
@@sirenfreak57 I think that would be great, Kurt! Plus, we could meet up again since you moved to Dayton.
@@TommyBNSF hi
@@TommyBNSF hi
A nice video of a nice classic siren!
Thank you!
@@sirenfreak57 You're welcome!
Nice Video, Kurt! Glad we could meet up!
The siren just gives me chills.
I would love to here this in person one day. Great video!!
Awesome!! Great test!
Thanks! It sure was a cool experience!
Siren head game
There were never many of these Sirex/Super Sirex models to begin with compared to the various FS, B&N/ACA, and old Sterling models within the same class, but these particular units had both a characteristic build and sound to them, and they were constructed like tanks when it came to braving the elements! Henry O. Ricci knew what he was doing when he designed these!
This sounds like the old amber alert tone...it used to scare the hell out of me as a kid
Soundscape The 7/10 interval produces what is commonly known as the “Devil’s Tritone” effect. And let me tell you this is one of the creepiest sirens I’ve ever heard, more so than the Thunderbolt.
firefreak57 oh yea the Thunderbolts has that gut turning tone especially with those ominous clouds. I grew up in Dallas and most of those thunderbolts all had different lower choppers set 😖
NICE VIDEO! Wish I got to go but o well!
Thanks! That would have been fun, but maybe you can come down next year, who knows! I'd be willing to record this thing again.
firefreak57 well IDK 😐 but we will see!
What kind of siren maker would put a horn on the INTAKE port?? Doesn't the sound come from the holes around the stator? If so, then the rotator would be completely useless.
Ah yes, I love two minutes of tones before watching a siren video! /s
Great video! I would love to get out here to hear this beast...but I’m a bit far :/
Midwest Siren Productions Thanks!
**Gets PTSD from the Amber Alert Siren**
Cool video!!!
Epic!
Thanks!
Did anyone else hear the tbolt?
We heard you, buddy!
I swear this is the only dual toned siren that's low tone dominant. That and the decot red arrow model 12.
Rgeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
**scary siren noises**
Why did they even build these to rotate? The sound comes from the ports so if anything is just being projected downwards, it would be better to put a 45* cone around the top of the tower it is mounted on to reflect the sound as it rotates a bit like a cross between the deflector on an RSH-10 and an SD-10
Great siren
if you could here closely you could here that the sound is actually kind of low pitch
Awesome Video! Also 1 Question, What scanner do you use? And how do you find the right channel (DTMF Tones) an all? Sorry if I didn't say that right.
xXSo1arGamingXx Thanks! I use a Uniden Bearcat BC75XLT scanner, they retail for about $80 on Amazon. A bit pricey but don’t have to worry about the bad quality other scanners like Baofengs have, and these have some more features and are overall built better. And a good place to find frequencies is through radioreference.com, which has a State by state/county by county database of all frequencies, trunked or not. If your county’s frequency is trunked (for example, my county is operating off a Ohio Regional Interoperability System (MARCS) System now, so everything is trunked but I can still pick up dispatch through a normal frequency thankfully), you won’t be able to hear anything transmitted across it. Most frequencies however are not trunked. Hope this helps!
@@sirenfreak57 Thank You so much for this information!
the siren: time to be siren head
Sounds like a siren from Hell 🙃
nice
Thanks!
Do you know of any sirens you can compare this with when it comes to volume! Awesome Video!!!
Thanks! It actually wasn't too loud since it was more omni directional than anything, but you could feel the rumble in your chest a bit. I'd say it was loud but not loud to be like super shrill or irritating. If I had to compare it to anything when it comes to volume probably about as loud as like an STL or something, but I'm honestly not too sure lol
I think this thing is the same volume as a super sirex. That's the best thing you can compare it to... lol I'm joking hehe
@@sirenfreak57 Thanks for the info! It's kinda hard to understand the output of these sirens since I have always grown up with 12 port sirens lmaoo
@@MiddleTNSirens Yeah I've lived near either no sirens at all or 2001s all my life so I don't really know either lol
Ray's World Can’t be. I don’t think the motor in this one is 40HP like the Super Sirex.
Spooky siren!
1:27 LOL "This is the one." Kurt forgot there were 2 DTMF strings. lol
haha siren go BRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRBBBBBBBBBBMMMMMM
Ekiuse me this sound like siren head yo
The game developer used this sound specifically for its port ratio, 7/10, which is in my opinion the scariest.
This is like the amber alert siren
I heard a thunderbolt
I hear a thunderbolt in the background
it sucks they dont do attack.
Nice! Adrian was kol
Thanks, and lol
I wonder if that projector works still :P
Its an air intake actually
Thats a stupid way to put a horn at: the intake.
Address
Siren Head?
BIREN BEAD
HOa many decibels
This siren sound just for soldiers
Because the sound of this siren like the alarm fire siren
I know this is supposed to be a cool rare siren, but... 7/10 isn't a very good sounding interval. Just sounds ugly.
Sounds like sirenhead
how’s this siren doing, does anyone know?
Up and active as far as I'm aware
Doing fine. Just passed by it, early first Wednesday on my way to Clermont, and back later that day, and It rotated.
SIREN HEADDDDDDDD
Uh, no.
@@thespiritstingray9359 dude, the sound is siren head i think
@@carlosthec5ashunter lol no its definitely not. Siren head's sound comes from a completely different siren. Plus, this siren is from 1953, much older than the siren head bs. The siren sound siren head uses is from a different siren (chicago's sirens), those of which are from the early 90's, still older than siren head
@@thespiritstingray9359 ik that but, it kinda sounds that from the game
