- With a cold winter and Covid restrictions ongoing, I’ve recently been going back over old videos and came across a load of footage from when John visited Canada back in 2019.
At the time, I didn’t bother uploading them anywhere, unsure whether they were good enough quality, whether they would get views or if they would gather enough subscribers. The videos sat on a hard drive for 18 months unwatched.
Since we lost John, the significance of these videos and the memories within them has become more important and I hope that those of you who enjoyed watching John on the channel, whether you knew him personally or not, find some comfort in seeing him enjoying one of the things he loved most, riding his bike. Despite that fact he spends most of the time complaining about cramp or fogged-up goggles!
I came across a quote that I think sums this scenario up very well - “sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory”. When I first heard this, I guessed it was by some world renowned philosopher, Gandhi or someone. Turns out it’s by the bloke who wrote Cat in the Hat, how about that.
I’m not sure if anyone actually reads these descriptions but if any of you have made it this far, thank you for watching and being a part of helping John’s legacy live on. He gave so much to everyone around him and personally, he brought me into a group that has given me lifelong friends bonded together by a passion for riding our bikes.
Take care and happy riding,
Dan
Great video,it's always a pleasure to hear his laugh, met him a couple of times at Hamsterley and Guisborough.A great guy loved by so many of his peers and neighbours alike.
Thanks Scott, glad you enjoyed the video!
Looks amazing. 🥲 John.
Thanks Rich, it was great to share this with John!
Great edit again. Cheers for sharing 👍........I did Blue velvet when I went to Whistler in 2018, my hands are still knackered from the braking bumps 💥🤯
Thanks Simon! Yeah Blue Velvet is billed as a beginner trail but 3 miles of braking bumps is quite the sufferfest!
remember being at Hamsterley Forest couldn't see him but I could hear his laugh and you couldn't mistake John's laugh
Too right! John's infectious laugh was the loudest of the lot!
