Hey WillE, big fan, don’t usually comment but this video really hit me in the nostalgia - thanks for your contributions to the WoW community as a content creator :)
The path to raiding was well defined in WOTLK making it accessible to Andy's like me, who never got their Immortal Title, or their Heroic Lich King kill, but by golly was it a good time to be alive :D
I've played on a bunch of Pservers, and Trial 10 nm (which only yields gear for the first 2-3 IDs anyways) & hc can be cleared easily in 1 hour in the first ID, 25nm probably takes about as much time in the first IDs for casual-semicasual guilds. Which would leave you with 1/3 of a raid night and another whole raid night for every guild raiding 2 nights a weak, so clearing 4x a week isn't a huge problem imho. And again, those numbers are for the very first ID after Ulduar. I'd say it's rather boring actually if the gaps between patches are too long, if anything there needs to be more content for the ToC-Patch, going for 0 wipes isn't really the only thing you want to work towards for 3 months
I'll never forget Wrath because the guild I was in, we used to do pulls blind. We wouldn't use strats other guilds used, we would just go in and figure it out, we were that good as a team. I also got Tribute to Insanity with that guild, it was 10 man with a few people, pally healing and I was healing as a shaman. I also remember people getting mad because I did good DPS as elemental in 10 man and could dominate on Mimiron in 25. That was the first time I actually did good damage and was aware of it since I had always been healing up to then.
Haha, I think you just called me out, I've been watching your videos for a long time but I must have forgotten to actually click the Subscribe button, sorry =P Thanks for the great content and keep it up! =D
hey willie loved the video! thats so impressive u have ALMOST 100% of ur viewers being subscribed. big congratulations, your channel will certainly grow with the quality content and effort u put in!
Wrath was to me the best of WoW in terms of raiding. Story telling. Lore. And zone designs. And that intro cinematic just fueled my excitement to kill the LK. I started Wrath as a hunter. Ended up tanking Naxx as a paly. And by ICC I was a destro lock. I absolutely loved the raiding back then. Wrath is basically the only classic WoW I am thinking about playing.
@@Unforgiven11 understandable. Normally i would agree, but i simply lost hope blizzard will do something good again and im done paying them a subscription
Ulduar raid was the pinnacle of raiding in WoW in it's entire history. The sheer scale, variety of bosses, Hardmodes to fit all types of players, possibility for guild content on weekly basis due to 10 man settings with all or only set amount of hardmodes based on group setup, the achievments, the build-up to Algalon... If Blizzard ever wants to revive the raiding scene and make it fully accessible to all types of players, they simply just need to bring back the Ulduar raiding setting and the raids will keep us entertained for a whole week on a positive note. Please, Blizz, just bring it back, OK? We will thank you a thousand-fold. Why did you ever had to butcher this perfect raid with ToC, only God knows...
gonna be hard to do since you'd have to give people better gear, then when ulduar comes, it'll be trivialized unless buffed, but i agree, so many private servers died right before ulduar cuz of the lack of content and spamming the same super easy raids.
@@Shotgunz999 I agree, it's hard to balance. It could be that you can nerf normal mode loot slightly and make the heroic loot the old normal loot. That's just an idle thought. It does rather imply you're "supposed" to do the hc which isn't the point imo, but wow players have always been willing to put in large amounts of extra effort for potentially very small gains in power.
@@WillEmmo yeah that's my expectation too. Problem being achies by their nature you only do once. Less incentive to do a 4HM cleave if everyone already has the achi from last time you pulled it off. It's not like there's better/extra loot for doing the achi strat (maybe that's the solution?)
Its subjective, but you're not wrong. Its one of the best overall for sure, though I'd hazard that there's been a few raids that are technically superior - but Ulduar was the pioneer of what we consider a modern good raid. And its the only one with such a unique method of activating hard mode, so bonus points.
I feel like the raid encounters in Wrath had the best balance between being tank and spank and having too many mechanics like they do now. Modern raids (and even dungeons) feel like I am playing dance dance revolution, rather than playing my character.
Wotlk was that nice medium part of the wow spectrum as far as overall mechanics. As the transitional phase it was enough of what made the game great and more modern mentalities. As a BC baby I loved it, and sadly things only went downhill after it. I'm not sure how blizzard intends to roll things out for classic, especially with the acquisition. They definitely shouldn't repeat TBC classic. No boosts, and the botting situation needs to be handled.
If Microsoft adds WoW subscription to their gamepass service it will be a gamechanger...there will be a gigantic influx of more casual players and honestly WoW needs that. The community is far too sweaty/focused on buying gear/ranks/boosts. It's near impossible to find dungeon groups now and old quest content areas feel dead.
wotlk was the 1st expansion i discovered what raiding is even tho it was on a private server during 2018 summer. it caught me off guard completely and kept me excited for months. way later, after few years, after trying different expansions(so far i ve played all except wod for the sake of absence of wod private server) and 3.3.5 patch is still somewhat attracting. surely enough, after a lot of mythic raiding at legion and bfa, icc and RS hc are easy af and being farmed, but for w/e reason i still want to play them again and again. i find it very cool, that, in fact, there are 4 raids in different modes that u can do at 80th lvl. ive had one of the best raiding times when i was waking up, there was a raid in 2 hours, i was raiding whole day on different characters and it was like this 6\7 days. RS\ICC\TOC, hcs, nms, speedruns, w/e. looking back id say that its the most huge content patch in terms of raiding. also the fact that u can gear a character really really fast adds few good points to the patch's score too.
Are you sure the Raid wide buff for ICC was introduced 4 months after? Cause i remember Paragon needed this Buff too kill the lich king the first time. And you also clearly see they have the Buff in the Video of the First kill
I started at the very end of TBC, trying out classes left right and center. But when wotlk hit, i went with ret paladin. i've never shunned away from ret pala ever since. Good memories, i can't wait
Looking forward to playing a Death Knight as they were meant to be played. I don't mean the overtuned situation at the start of WotLK, but how the talent system worked for that class. Every spec played a little different, in both dps and tank roles. At least that's how I felt back then.
Its a big difference, blood is the only spec ppl tank in....frost damage is reined in heavily. Unholy is the only one the sorta held its power all the way thru, pvp and pve.
What wasn't mentioned in the video is how accessible the raids were. Even Ulduar, which has an absurd amount of memes about how difficult it was, could be pugged back in the day. The Immortals and Undyings on my server were all done by pugs, and after ICC opened, 50-attempt colosseum runs were pretty popular as well. And it's not because the players were super good or overgeared, but because the raid difficultly was in that sweet spot where any newbie could walk in, get something for their trouble, and learn something even if they died on pull. After Vanilla, where raiding was considered a huge investment, and BC, where elitism was first introduced at max burn, being able to just casually log in whenever and clear a raid in an hour or two really helped the casual playerbase a lot.
Is it just me, or does wow's art style lend itself best to horror themes like undercity, undead, and death nights? Like the darker side of the color pallet they went with just slaps when paired with the Tim Burton Gothic horror art style. I think that's why I originally was pulled into wotlk zones so completely. Nothing since has quite had a vibe/tone achieved so perfectly.
{10 man heroic siegecrafter blackfuse wants to know your location} really though I was a serious 10 man raider and this shit took us 500 attempts, we got it, then 2 weeks later they nerfed the 10 man versions hp by 20% because they knew it was way overturned. Then the 2nd place guild behind us got the kill immediately after the nerf, which pretty much destroyed our lead. But yes, 10 man heroics usually required less mistakes, since you had 1 battle rez vs 3. Another example is heroic Lei shen, where on 25 heroic you could have healers on each corner for the transitions, but only 2 healing for 10 man you had to have 2 corners without a healer
I can't wait to tank naxx again with my prot pally! Getting The Safety Dance achievement on the Heigan the Unclean fight was a high point for me at the time!
Loving your content WillE, and yeah, raids in Wrath were AMAZING (well, except Naxx, having done it in Vanilla it was pretty disappointing to me how pathetically easy it was) Ulduar specifically (before the nerfs) in my opinion is the best raid they ever put out.
@@ChinnuWoW You clearly didn't do Vanilla Naxx if you think Wrath Naxx was ANYWERE in the ballpark of its difficulty. Hell, for a lot of the abilities they barely (or in some cases didnt at all) change the values of bosses attacks and abilities. The ONLY time it was challenging was doing Immortal/Undying runs since internet was still iffy back then in a lot of places and doing achievements. Shit, a group of lvl 78 druids cleared it, thats how easy it was.
@@alexrompen805 You know I was talking about Wrath Naxx, right? That's where the black proto and plagued proto drakes come from, the glory achievements.
Didn't even know they planned to remove 10 man heroic. I was in a 'strict' 10 man guild that only did 10 man content and were not allowed to wear any 25 man gear (there was a website that tracked armories/achievements (no kill achievements for 25 man current content allowed) for competing with similar guilds on other guilds). This would have killed our guild.
Sounds like they were a trash guild then if they couldn't push 25 and didn't want to be reminded of it hence the no gear rule. I feel sorry for that experience my dude.
@@PKNshire what? That was intentional. We wanted to only raid 10 man to cut down on the increased stupidity factor/management of more people. The gear limitation was just too stop us (and competing guilds) cheesing the content with higher ilvl. All of us could have joined top 25 guilds (and apparently did after I left due to life commitments mid cata). We had a rogue with the insane achievement for example. We just liked raiding 10 man's.
Yeah I was surprised to hear they planned to remove it too, this is the first I've heard of that. 10 man Ulduar hard modes were my first real experience of progression raiding with a stable group and I had a lot of my formative raiding experiences in there. We had a dedicated 10 man group that progressed through the entire place on hard mode and eventually got our rusted proto drakes, but whenever we tried to fill a 25 man, the other members were so bad that we could barely make it past the first 3-4 bosses on normal 25 haha. So many people doing literally 1/4 of the damage their characters were capable of, with an endless list of excuses any time someone brought that up. I made friends in that 10 man group that I'm still in touch with to this day and I have so many fond memories of meeting up with them, going to a net cafe and somehow convincing our guildies to stay up until 3-4 in the morning while progressing on Mimiron haha. It would've been pretty upsetting if they'd removed 10 man hard modes in the next tier.
Interesting you have such a high opinion of Undying. Myself, I always thought that achievement was 'do you know 24 other people in 2008 who all have 2012 level internet connections?'

That was the first time I actually did good damage and was aware of it since I had always been healing up to then.

they will 100% update the level boost for wotlk classic lol.

What a step back in time. Thanks WillE.
Totally agree bro. Im currently playing wrath on a private progressing through icc 25 hc and i can honestly say im having a blast doing it again
@@floreaciprian9742 I CANNOT WAIT for Wrath Classic but I dont wanna spoil the hype with Private servers
When Ulduar was live I quit WoW Retail. Ulduar raid was the final nail in the coffin. I hated it.
No. Fuck "accessible". It killed the game
@@hurtigheinz3790 and you must be the only person in the entire world with that opinion xD
@@hurtigheinz3790 wtf? Literally the TOP raid in WoW's history, you dont like WoW if you hate Ulduar in my opinion. :D

I wasn't subscribed sorry, now I am!
Sartharion 3 drake, Ulduar (minus flame leviathan's vehicle combat), and ICC were some of the best raids ever made
I think the opening tier could use a heroic mode to satisfy some people after TBC.
I'd say this is something I hope for more than most things, aside from a small group of fresh servers on launch for those who want it.
If we are lucky and Blizzard do say something about the concern of overly easy T7, i bet they will say just do the achieves tbh
gonna be hard to do since you'd have to give people better gear, then when ulduar comes, it'll be trivialized unless buffed, but i agree, so many private servers died right before ulduar cuz of the lack of content and spamming the same super easy raids.
It's not like there's better/extra loot for doing the achi strat (maybe that's the solution?)
awesome videos!
Good shit WillE

It was me. Now I'm subbed.
Ulduar, the pinnacle of raid design. My favorite raid and one that has yet to be matched for me.
Its subjective, but you're not wrong. Its one of the best overall for sure, though I'd hazard that there's been a few raids that are technically superior - but Ulduar was the pioneer of what we consider a modern good raid. And its the only one with such a unique method of activating hard mode, so bonus points.
OOh ooh thats me, I can subscribe!
I feel like the raid encounters in Wrath had the best balance between being tank and spank and having too many mechanics like they do now. Modern raids (and even dungeons) feel like I am playing dance dance revolution, rather than playing my character.
Zoomer gamers take a lot of adderall...and their generation of games reflect it...
Haha, that dance dance revolution part made me chuckle

@@hgkghkhgkgh8378 go down another adderall, you're heart is beginning to beat normally again.
@@qntcats5974 this was always a problem in wow
@@MoonTurky no it wasn't. There were always more casual players enjoying the content. Now it's just Boosts, GDKPs, and raid logs.
Willie you kick ass!
Wille, I just found out that Conquest of Azeroth exists, can you do a review of it?
Wasn't the first hard mode Hakkar in ZG?
wotlk was the 1st expansion i discovered what raiding is even tho it was on a private server during 2018 summer. it caught me off guard completely and kept me excited for months. way later, after few years, after trying different expansions(so far i ve played all except wod for the sake of absence of wod private server) and 3.3.5 patch is still somewhat attracting. surely enough, after a lot of mythic raiding at legion and bfa, icc and RS hc are easy af and being farmed, but for w/e reason i still want to play them again and again. i find it very cool, that, in fact, there are 4 raids in different modes that u can do at 80th lvl. ive had one of the best raiding times when i was waking up, there was a raid in 2 hours, i was raiding whole day on different characters and it was like this 6\7 days. RS\ICC\TOC, hcs, nms, speedruns, w/e. looking back id say that its the most huge content patch in terms of raiding. also the fact that u can gear a character really really fast adds few good points to the patch's score too.

Same! I want to do a proper look at the differences between launch and 3.3.5 DKs in the future too
Its a big difference, blood is the only spec ppl tank in....frost damage is reined in heavily. Unholy is the only one the sorta held its power all the way thru, pvp and pve.
@@jamesbaggett3655 pretty sure blood wasn't a tank spec until Cataclysm, frost was the tank spec for wotlk

I think that person might be me haha! You just gained a new subscriber 😉
Ehm back in the day Ulduar had "memes" about how people in full blues could clear it
Is it just me, or does wow's art style lend itself best to horror themes like undercity, undead, and death nights? Like the darker side of the color pallet they went with just slaps when paired with the Tim Burton Gothic horror art style. I think that's why I originally was pulled into wotlk zones so completely. Nothing since has quite had a vibe/tone achieved so perfectly.

Always enjoyed your videos , but somehow forgot to subscribe O_o
You got me. I subbed now
for me, it always felt like 10-people was harder then 25-people.. and that balancing was a mess all over the raids.
For a while, it was. It wasn't your imagination.
During Cata I know certain fights were waaaay harder on 10 man as some mechanics didnt scale down to the smaller size too well
{10 man heroic siegecrafter blackfuse wants to know your location} really though I was a serious 10 man raider and this shit took us 500 attempts, we got it, then 2 weeks later they nerfed the 10 man versions hp by 20% because they knew it was way overturned.
Oh, hey. I'm apart of that 0.1%
I'm finally in the 0.1%! My mom told me I was special.

Loving your content WillE, and yeah, raids in Wrath were AMAZING (well, except Naxx, having done it in Vanilla it was pretty disappointing to me how pathetically easy it was) Ulduar specifically (before the nerfs) in my opinion is the best raid they ever put out.
Strange they removed the black proto drake if the raid was so easy
@@ChinnuWoW You clearly didn't do Vanilla Naxx if you think Wrath Naxx was ANYWERE in the ballpark of its difficulty. Hell, for a lot of the abilities they barely (or in some cases didnt at all) change the values of bosses attacks and abilities. The ONLY time it was challenging was doing Immortal/Undying runs since internet was still iffy back then in a lot of places and doing achievements. Shit, a group of lvl 78 druids cleared it, thats how easy it was.

I would like to see some info of how pre-patch works and what to expect.
