Yep, it's the rubber vacuum tube on the driver's side manifold down under the brake lines that will come off. It controls the blend doors to change from defrost to the other settings. I had that problem before and today. Check that first before you take anything else apart. It's fairly easy to get to on my 2002 4.0L engine. Take a dab of Flex Seal and put it on the manifold tube to hold the rubber vacuum tube on. Do not get any inside the tube. When the Flex Seal dries it should hold so the rubber vacuum line doesn't come off again.

On a 5.2 V8, I found the vacuum line that goes through the firewall to be under the top heater core line (big line). I use a new fuel line hose (3/32" which is a snug fit) to reconnect both ends of the vacuum lines. Heat gun each end of the fuel line so that it can easily stretch and go over the vacuum lines.

helps a lot actually, I had mine default to defrost. not that bad considering its winter, but my value line is rotted half way through at that T connector. also that line goes into the fire wall at the same spot that those ac lines go in.

Just had to do this for my 1998 Grand Cherokee ZJ. I found the vacuum hose and it's seems good, but not sure why the air won't blow through the vents. At least this temp fix will get air into the cabin. Next have to get the ac recharged for cold air. Sheesh

CAN SOME ONE PLEASE HELP... I had this exact problem in my 1997 grand Cherokee I did what he did in the video and it worked perfect in a pinch. But now I have fixed the vacuum line and I need to get the actuator rod back on the arm. I have tried glueing it back ziptying everything and it just won’t stay together. I need to find a replacement for the plastic white arm that the rod connects to and figure out how to remove it thanks for any help. The white arm that controls the defrost/vent is what I need to find

Tie wraps will probably not hold.. without going to the junkyard and retrieving one..the only thing I can think of how to fix it is.. take the accuator out from under the dash so that you can work on it.. drill a small hole in the end of the rod where it sticks through the white connector... Put the actuator back in place with the rod back in the connector..then place a small washer on the end of the connecting rod..then where you drill the hole put a small piece of wire to hold the washer on, and that should hold it in place very securely.. hope this helps..
