You are changing my life! I've been using my harbor freight gun to bend PVC, but have never considered foam. Thanks for opening up a new universe to me.
I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong when I held the heat gun at the noodles, saw the melt, turned the gun off and set it down, then pressed the noodles together! Now I learned that I can't hold the gun! Thanks for showing me what I was doing wrong!
I heard from several people that their pool noodles were different, and this didnt work lol- they are all the same, its technique. they also cool down amazingly fast.
OOOOK 😱 Thank you so much..this video is perfect timing for me. I was making the mistakes in your example and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong 🤔😡🤬Thanks again 😃🤩🤩😉
This is very good to know. I plan to try this on a Christmas project and it will be my first time using a heat gun and pool noodles. A very big thank you!
Learning time. you're the first person I've seen using this technique (in previous videos) and it's pretty cool. Not had the chance to use it yet, but it's sotred away for the right project. Just made my own "buddies" but instead of buckets or barrels I used yogurt pots...Once I have my own garage and garden I can go bigger : p Thanks for being an inspiration.
I have been doing this stuff a long time- so alot of technique is pretty internalized so I have to slow down to make sure that I express the why along with the what lol.

Watched one of your earlier videos on this, but it just wasn’t working for me. (Mistake example #1 maker)😂 came back to the channel hoping for a detail video and here you are. So grateful! Thank you!
Thanks for the clarification Allen! I appreciate you taking the time to share this with us. I was definitely performing bad example #1. Can wait to try the proper technique when I get home from work today...
I have a porter cable that I got from Granger because I'm a soap maker and I use a shrink wrap system I wish I had known about the $10 harbor freight heat gun but I know now and I love this technique that you shared a couple of weeks back and this is just a highlight of what to do and what not to do! Again an awesome share from your studio that's pretty sweet thanks again! ❤️
I can vouch with the density of pipe foam insulation and pool noodles. Recently made an 8 foot tall Groot costume and it was made from both materials mostly and personally I did NOT care for the pipe foam insulation because it melts waaaaaaay too easily. The pool noodles were perfect for the suit. However I wished I knew about the heat gun trick. Would've saved me time and money. Regardless, it turned out pretty badass!!

I just want you to know I got yelled at for using a spraycan inside ( saying you did it too didn't help) oh well. I just got my heat gun and a nice little air compressor with "free" air brushes so I can practice for when I can come to camp. Got about 25% of my usual trick or treaters this year. They came just for my house!!! Hope your day was good.
Love your channel, learning so much. Thanks for sharing. Also, just realized... If pool noodles are denser than pipe insulators because they have more cells.. that suggest that pool noodles are actually pipe insulators?!!
This is the video that changed my life forever! Now all I need to know is how to make a skin for the creatures I make using pool noodles. I'm thinking of putting together an octopus as a classroom prop. Is there anyway that we can bend/ shape the foam floor mat you get all the time from Harbor Freight? Or is there a way to do duct tape corpsing with a heat gun to bind the edges together?
@StiltbeastStudios I think you could use that pool noodle foam for some nice fungus. With some touch ups it could look the part : example 5:18 looks like tree fungus
that was a perfect example how to connect the pool noodles! Thanks! I am making palm trees with pool noodles and rebar. I want to paint a pool noodle brown. What kind of paint can I use? Spray paint is what I want to do, but I am not sure if it will work.
I'm trying to decide which noodle to use inside a grapple dummy where I'll be bending the arms and legs. Which one would tear easier, the pipe insulation or the pool noodle?
I built an giant ufo for my zipline and I used this method to make a hexagon shape for the clear umbrella dome to slip into. It turned out perfect , I wish RUclips would allow pictures in the comments so I could show you guys what I mean
from heating it there are very few fumes- there is no odor. If it catches fire however thats a different story. if there is smoke then you are doing it wrong.
@@StiltbeastStudios oh gotcha, I've cut it with a hotwire before, needless to say a respirator was involved, good to know it's s not so volatile at lower temps.
you are just using it too long, it does not take much at all, practice and you will see its the fastest and most secure way to bond them- but there is for sure a skill barrier and it takes getting used to.
@@StiltbeastStudios I had to glue Kaizen foam. Epoxy worked best for me by far! In fact the crazy thing is the 5min set Gorila Epoxy which is NOT supposed to be for Polyethelene was the one that worked best.

Our Dollar Tree up here in the PNW didn't have any noodles. So I had to use the pipe insulation.

Looked up the heat gun you are using. Do you have it set to 750° or 1000°?
Always 1000! There is no low power!!!
Have the harbor freight plastic welder with a few different nozzles..could this be used for more precise pieces? Since you can get all up in there
yes, I have that also- but most folks dont so I try to not use specialized tools lol.

I dont know how I feel about "nice fungus"
Have you ever tried just holding them together before you put them in front of the heat? And then let them melt together?
they are such good insulators that they only heat up on the very outside, no penetration.

Can I do this with anything other than a heat gun?

Glad it was helpful!
Just curious if you have a favorite place or supplier for purchasing the foam in bulk ????
foamnoodles.com/ has been great for us!
Is that able to weld both foam with different density, example the low density + high density
the low density will shrink faster so yes you can but there are challenges

buy from foamnoodle.com, they have thicker, denser noodles and thats what you want.
You are so helpful. Would this work on polyurethane foam too??
Im afraid not-specific to polyethelene.
What temperature (celsius)?
Have you ever tried glue? If so, which type of glue works best
it dosent sadly.

Will this work to bond pool noodle to EVA foam?
no, only polyethelene foam

@@StiltbeastStudios oh gotcha, I've cut it with a hotwire before, needless to say a respirator was involved, good to know it's s not so volatile at lower temps.
The hot glue seems to provide better results. The heat gun deforms it way too much.
