@@chandracox6814 There's a lot of tattoo commentators that aren't artist. I think they mean it's nice when someone talks about application and technique from experience.
I actually loved that little skeleton tattoo. The half sleeve of course is gorgeous, but that little skeleton for whatever reason I find has more charm and character.
The skeleton reminds me a bit of Hugo Simberg's work, he was an late 19th century artist who did a lot of paintings with grim reaper figures, often in casual poses like tending gardens or listening to music.
You should do a video where an average person who knows nothing about tattoos tries to critique them, and compare it to your critique of them. I keep trying to find issues with tattoos before you say them to see if I know tattoo art haha.
Handpoke tattoos can be and are professionally done, with sterile materials and actual tattoo ink and the finish can be extremely clean and beautiful, and look just like a machine tattoo, people tend to think handpoke is child's play and they go and give themselves not so good looking tats with whatever sharp object and ink they can find but it ain't no game and there's great artists doing great work in many places around the world :)
Yeah but they're few and far between. The general consensus is that stick-n-poke tattoos are done at home by teenagers/young adults. It's a stereotype but not exactly false.
@@chandracox6814 you know, one day i wpuld love to see a video of the life journey of a tattoo artist that started just like that doing some stupid ass shit on themselves, which then eventually evolved into a full on handpoke artist. So far i have only saw people saying that they either switched to machines as they got serious about it, or went straight to machines by buying their first cheap ass machine somewhere. But seriously, pointilism is a legit art form where you make huge detailed pictures by doing simple dots with a marker or a pen. Translating that into the handpoke would be super easy because is exactly the same principle only applied to a dirrefent surface. Having an artist doing exclusively that as a whole career? Sounds awesome

I have the roof of my mouth tattooed and it felt like the entire top/roof of my mouth was trying to escape my body and would twitch off and on. Super crazy
I don't have a tattoo but I have had a shot on the roof of my mouth for dental work. It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced, worse than childbirth.

Hey Pony! I’m also surprised the artist of the little skeleton chose to remain anonymous. Your channel is a great platform to get a wide publicity. That tattoo was really good! The whimsical pose, intricate detail and contrast in that piece shows a real talented artist! ❤ I really appreciate your channel. Having a professional tattoo artist critique, educate and promote other artists is wonderful to see. You’re really paying it forward, helping artists be the best they can be, and using your status to promote new artists in the industry. Mad respect! ❤ Also, as someone who is not a tattoo artist but appreciates the art form and loves learning, you break things down and explain terms so that I understand where you’re coming from. Thank you for that! ❤
With all of the covid stuff going on and my immune system being shoddy do you critique tattoos on the silicone skins? If so I would like to send in some pics as it is the only way to keep in practice for me as my skills develop further.
Love your videos ❤️ and your insights, I watched 3hours of your Bea Arthur livestream and watching you work was beautiful, you are clearly passionate and precise and I love how youve run with a specialist area while still having a broad portfolio 🥰 Love learning more about what I should want in my artists' work, though I love all my tattoos. And hearing you comment on infection control in a critique video makes me so happy, basic hygiene practice is just as important if not more so than the art because you are breaking through the skin which is mainly functioning as the body's defense against the outside world and bacteria, viruses, parasites and other sources of infection which can cause lifelong complications if aseptic procedures are not followed, suitable care is not taken during the tattooing process to keep the tools uncontaminated and the tattoo is not cared for as it heals. Drilling that into people thinking only about tattooing as a different artform almost need to start from scratch thinking about tattooing as a cosmetic medical procedure and their workstation as a medical table to set up like a surgeon or dentist would. It's why during the pandemic I was far happier getting a tattoo than getting my haircut... I know *my* artist understands infection control. At my hairdressers they have face masks and screens between clients but still blow-dry particles everywhere and still share apparatus between stations and clients and dip into pots of hair product after touching their clients, instead of using single use sachets or spatulas to get product out because they don't think medically. That was a long winded way of saying 'you raise super teaching points, Pony, and really offer a lot to the community and young artists coming up in the industry. So glad you have a channel ☺️' 🥰💕
That Fight Club tattoo looked weird to me. It only vaguely looks like Brad Pitt to me. Something with the way the jaw line was angled too sharply and then like the left side of the tattoo as you're looking at it head-on it's just like there's no dimension to it it was all just done like an almost straight line and since the face is in profile seems like it should just have a little more depth or something to it. It's still a nice tattoo but that's what stood out for me
I liked the Tyler Durden tatto at first but the longer i looked the worse/wonkier it got. Didn't notice the forehead was actually a fivehead, maybe even a sixhead, until Pony mentioned something was a little off. The eyes went a bit wonky too. That said, at first glance its great. No one but the canvas would really have the time to notice/realize how wonky it is. Also it's clearly Tyler Durden so that's a plus.
Pony, I love your honest critique. You strike me as a very kind person with a great sense of humour! You are also extremely talented. Love seeing your work. Bravo 👏🏻
Omg on the one tattoo with the nun u counted how many times he used the word quality. But in the tattoo with the cross and rosary u should have counted how many times he used the word shade I didn’t count from the beginning but I’m thinking about 15 times lmao 😂
The person who tattooed the roof of their mouth needs to spend more time at the dentist and less time caring about decorating the roof of their mouth. I can visibly see a cavity on one side and a cracked tooth on the other. If that’s visible to the naked eye, I can only imagine what x-rays would show.
as a dental student, that hard palate tattoo just makes me cringe.... I wish people would realize that there are just certain areas of your body that SHOULD NOT BE TATTOO'D... intraoral tattoos can cause serious gingival recession and infection, especially since tattoo artists aren't really trained in mouth hygiene.... And lets be honest, that tattoo is going to essentially not exist in 5-10 years.
I'm not familiar with tattoo photography, so I may be way off here. But I know with regular art, sharpening up an image makes everything more crisp and defined. I think it can also make the darks more dark and lighten up the lights. So my guess is that for tattoos it makes it both more difficult to judge linework (because it may look better in the image than in reality) as well as gradients (because they may be less visible in the image than in reality).
