- I never had a dreadnought guitar before - and after having heard many good things about this particular model I decided to buy one. My best pal Jonas Normann kindly offered me to make a small film of my first few chords on the new guitar, and this is the result. It's all in one take - no second takes, so what you hear is what you get. I'll make another video of the Eastman E1D in the near future featuring this original tune along some others as well. I'll give a more comprehensive description of the guitar in the next video. But all I can say is that im absolutely blown away by this guitar.
A HUGE thank you to my incredibly talented friend Jonas Normann for taking time to film, cut and produce this little preview of my new acoustic guitar.
Please go check out his work at jonasnormann.com/
Take care, and thank you for all of your support. I appreciate it more than you know.
//Chris Effort
I first saw this video after buying my own eastman a year ago. I've learned how to play this by watching it over and over again and i still love listening to this. its my favorite song to play till this day
Thank you so much man, sincerely. it really means a lot.
I came here to listen to the eastman e1d, but I was taken elsewhere and literally enraptured by the beauty of your music and the depth that transpires from your playing. Thank you so much for sharing this pearl, which shows your absolute talent and made my normal day really special, listening to those "first chords". Best from Italy and thanks again!
This is one of those songs that hit you in the core of your soul. Like magic.
The only bad thing about this video, is that it ended - that song was beautiful
You Sir, are my favorite acoustic guitarist. Soooooo inspiring. Thank you for sharing your gift.
This love is genuine how much spirit and life is drawn into me . They say from a mans guitar many stories are told .
Thank you so so much . I am in awe
This is toooo good, another definition of high quality production.
You've done it again Chris. You've touched my "soul" with the depth of feeling in your playing. So beautiful. That Eastman had a lovely voice too. Best from Australia.
Thank you ever so much Bill. I really appreciate it. Have a great and hopefully much better and brighter new year 🌟
Probably the most beautiful guitar video on RUclips.
Thanks bud, that is big words man. And I appreciate every one them. Take care
Got the e1d for my step up guitar, allI can say is WOW, thanks Chris making my decision easy, loving it 👍🎶🎶🎶
Beautiful playing and lovely sound, Chris. You convinced me to buy an E1D... until I discovered not a single left handed one is available here in England currently. Eastman should have you on commission, I bet your two videos of this E1D have inspired a whole bunch of people to choose one! You make it sound head and shoulders above any other guitar in its price bracket. Keep doing what you're doing, and thanks again for putting this out there.
i found your channel today cz i was looking for Martin guitar reviews. I stayed back for your guitar playing. So Soulful and wonderful.
*Eastman guitar
That sounds so percussive and resonant.. and it's new? Unreal...great bottom end..bass.
Yeah it was brand spanking new at the time. Such a great guitar, and not just for the money.
I bought a E1D today....after debating between the 1 or the 2, your videos made my mind up on the 1. Its absolutely incredible!. Your song sold it to me. I need to learn it!
Thank you Aaron, I’m so glad it was helpful.
That just might be my step up guitar👍🎵🎵
I have the Eastman E2D. Same as this model except mine is solid cedar top instead of solid spruce. It’s incredible.
Beautiful, you make this guitar truly shine. Play my E1D just at home, the high end specs on this are superb for the price, with that and your skills it sounds like a professional level guitar. That's my guess as I can't afford to own one but I'm delighted that I chose this guitar every time I pick it up to play. It delivers on all levels: strumming, fingerstyle, drop tuning....and you've delivered it here superbly, thanks.
The playing on this video is outstanding. Lost count how many times ive re-watched
Thank you Kris, it means a ton!
This needs to be on Spotify
so good, what tuning is this in?
Hey Chris, Thanks so much for doing a great "review" of these two fine guitars. It was a pleasure to watch and listen without a bunch of time taken up blabbing about specs and such. You just let the guitars speak for themselves. Very good job. Thanks again. Now... I gotta go out and get a a 000-15SM... If I can find one... Keep up the great work Chris.
Thank you Jeff, I appreciate that very much. I see the 000-15’s pretty regularly on reverb, and the older ones seem to have opened up a lot and so wonderful.
Chris let me tell you, man, that was beautiful. I felt a lot of feelings and emotions with your interpretation. Very nice. Amazing guitar.
Thank you Merlin for bringing a big smile on my face. Your comment means a lot
Just like some other guys I came here to check how the Eastman E1D sounds and was amazed by the beauty of your music. The experience from listening to your stuff is just hard to describe through the words. This music speaks directly to my soul.❤ You are very skilled guitar player with great songwritting talent. Keep going Chris! 💪🎶Greetings from the Czech republic. Take care
Thank you so much!
My goodness! Gorgeous sound. Incredibly soulful writing and playing... dynamics off the charts. I listened over an hour ago and I can still hear it. Thank you!
Thank you so much Daniel! Means a lot to me to hear that.
What a touch Chris
Just blown away
also Guitar tone is heavenly awesome
Thank you Ayon for making my day with that comment
Beautiful. I also own an Eastman E1D and it is literally the only acoustic guitar that I haven't sold yet, that includes other Eastman guitars. I regret selling a new Martin D-28 though, that one was beautiful in every aspect with a beautiful hard case, but I needed the money back then.
May this Eastman grow old with me like fine wine.
You play beautiful music; it really does something to me, it definately connects with my inner soul. What a lovely tone as well ❤.
I'm with you my friend...but, I kept my Martin....but hardly ever play it after buying my E1D 🙂
I am looking to replace my one year old Martin D28 that I had to sell. It was difficult to part with. Would like to get a much more affordable all solid wood guitar, and this Eastman is very impressive.
Loving the sound of that Eastman Chris, beautiful playing by the way🇬🇧🇺🇦🇺🇸
Thank you Paul! Much appreciated mate
Beautiful playing and a gorgeous guitar. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much Sir!
I know the video is about showcasing the guitar, but, man, that’s a really beautiful piece of music. Well done!
I found that very moving. Some chords will do that to you. Beautiful. I echo the comment below - came to see the guitar, stayed for the gorgeous music ❤ If I buy that guitar can I play like that? :-)
Very organic, and yet a dry Tone !
The sound of this wild cat is beautiful
Thank you for your kind comment
Sounds great. Love your playing
Thank you Skye, I really appreciate it
Great piece of work. Ty. Love the chord changes off the given progression. Very good.
Thank you Joshua, appreciate it a lot!
Simply amazing playing.
Man, everyone is gonna want an Eastman E1D after watching your videos.
Haha thank you! I don’t know about that, but it’s an awesome guitar, can’t recommend it enough :D
You really put a lot of Chris effort into this! Thanks for the upload 👍
Haha thanks for making me smile Leon :D
I have an E1D and what a pleasure to play... You do it so well Chris!
Thank you for your kindness and support Fabien. It really is quite remarkable how great a guitar it is
This tune is beautiful .
This is absolutely gorgeous, what an ad for eastman! What is the tuning used here?
A story beautifully told.
Solid instrument in great hands!
Thank you Serge
Sounds great! Love what you played. Thank you!
Thank you Marcus
Very appreciated.
This is the first time I've seen this video. You my friend play well ! Thank you for staring !! May I ask what tuning you were in ?
Great playing and a great guitar. Love my E1D.
Thanks Matt! It’s absolutely awesome!
This inspired me to check out and test Eastman guitars, I'd never seen or heard of them before.....well long story short just the other day I was at one of the best guitar shops in Sydney Australia (The Guitar Factory Gladesville, shout out to these great bunch of guys) the salesman asked me to give him a run down of what I was searching for and he presented me with an E6SS-TC , torrefied Spruce/Mahogany, Ebony bridge/fretboard, man once it came out of the rack there's no way it was going back, got him to play it to me (good player too) then I played it myself and after only a minute my search was over, I'm overwhelmed by it....way better than I deserve, it's inspiring, thanks for your videos and awesome music sounds and style, I owe you Chris 👍👌
Thank you so much! I’m dying to try one of their TC series!
I hope your new guitar will bring you infinite years of joy, take care
@@ChrisEffort thanks so much, I treasure growing with it.
That was very moving, absolutely beautiful....could you please tell me what tuning you are in? thank you.
Not 100% sure but looks like open D!
Great.. totally brilliant, new, attracting
Type of guitar playing
I love this! You know how to play and record properly. I subscribed after I heard this video after watching the Martin 000. This is a great demonstration of that guitar, and it’s sound and power. I love the flat open pore finish. My friend has a few Eastmans including an E8d (rosewood) but his thing sounds better! I will try to check one out at my local dealer. I don’t have any dreadnoughts and I can’t afford a Martin. I like the way this wood combo sounds , Eastman did a nice job on this.
Thank you so much man, I really appreciate that mate
@@ChrisEffort you’re welcome! I actually just bought an E1D because of your videos! It’s a fantastic guitar for the money, I actually scored one on Facebook marketplace for $350 used.
This helped me decide to buy this model guitar. Just amazing!
Thanks Rob
I’m glad you could use the video. And congrats with your new guitar. It’s a great one!
Yes thats a great bit of playing to!
Sounds great chris! Awesome playing and a great guitar😍
Thank you my friend 🙏 It’s such good guitars. Wow.
Clicked bc I've been comtemplating buying this guitar, but just wow. This has been replaying in my head for weeks. What tuning are you using?
Thank you Brendan, appreciate it! Very kind of you. If I remember correctly it’s tuned DADF#AE.
Really nice - great playing and great sounding guitar! I've snagged 2 Eastman Grand Auditoriums in the past year, I do believe an E1D might be next...
Thank you! The E1D is soo good!
I came hear to listen to the guitar since I’m looking at buying an Eastman… it quickly became more about hearing you play. Don’t know what I expected you to lay down, but it wasn’t that. Listening to that kind of playing is good for the soul man. Awesome. Do you still have the guitar? If so how is it doing for you?
Thanks man, really appreciate it!
I don’t have the guitar any longer unfortunately. I tend to switch a lot to try as many different guitars as possible, and hopefully land on one that will stay for a long time.
It was a killer guitar!
You make this lowest cost all solid Eastman sound so good!
Thanks man, really appreciate it
Is that in open C? Absolutely beautiful my friend.
It’s open D
Class, great playing..
Thanks a lot man!
Bought the Eastman E1D SP today. Nice besides my D18. Use the E1D for alternate tunings.
Ohhh man, beautiful! Happy & Healthy New Year Chris!
Thank you very much man, and likewise! All the best to you
Hey Chris. After watching your videos I decided to get this guitar. (After comparing it to the similar one with a cedar top. I thought I'd like the "mellowness" of the cedar, but I prefer the crisp clarity of the spruce.) Two things:
1. You should get a commission from Eastman for all the people you've steered their way via your reviews.
2. When I get it and it doesn't sound like yours (i.e. your playing) can I get a refund? 😀
Gorgeous sound
Thank you Alex
Gosh, this guitar sounds great. I’m in the market for a new guitar. Been wanting an OM model because I really don’t like big dreadnoughts but this sounds amazing. You really have me thinking now 🤔. Wonder how the OM sounds. Great style brother. Subscribed.
The OM is great too.
Funny thing is my dog has two totally different reactions listening to us play this guitar😂😂😂. Hearing this she chills and goes to sleep. Me, she leaves the room
Haha thanks man!
I can't get this song out of my head.
Do you happen to have tabs for it you could share? What tuning are you using?
Was thinking abou the E3DE now im night have to look at this one wow
What tuning is this in? I’d love tabs for this song it is beautiful
Same question
I bet you could make a barbed wire fence sound good just climbing over it. Great playing and you still having the honey moon with the e1d . Kind of hung on the fence myself about buying one . Found a great deal on a ed1 -classic Eastman. What’s is your opinion. By the way thanks for such great review videos. Jeff Clark from Rockdale Texas
Hi Jeff, thanks man - I’m not sure I could pull that off haha, but I appreciate your very kind words. It’s a banger of a guitar, really loud, but also quite touch sensitive. If you’re in the marked for a Dreadnought - an e1d is possibly the best bet in that price range. It definitely punches above its weight class, that’s for sure. It is really killer!
Superb!
Wonderful playing, reminds me of Iron and Wine. This guitar is on my shortlist, I think you just nudged it to the top! Tone is beautiful, what strings are you using / recommend?
beautiful playing
Thank you Joe, really appreciate it
Sounds unreal. What's the name of this song??
That’s a great tune! I once had an E1OM, gave it back, kinda regret it as it was actually amazing, still have store credit and am looking at these Eastman’s again. I did play the E1D in the store, and it didn’t make me go «WOW!» like the OM did. In video comparisons the 1D often takes it though, simply out-muscle’ing the OM. I’m a softer fingerstyle player at heart, so that may be why. They’re undoubtedly great guitars though, especially when considering price.
Thank you Kristian!
I’ve tried an E1OM as well, and what a flipping good guitar. You’re are right about the E1D, it’s a canon for sure. But it was the better choice for me since owning a 000 Martin. However - I’d absolutely love to add an OM style Eastman to my collection in the future. The E20OM is amazing too, a buddy of mine has one. For the money it might be the best I’ve tried.
@@ChrisEffort This video popped back up in my recommended again.. I mean the riff is really good and addictive! You wrote it?
Since my first comment I’ve now acquired not one but two Eastmans, both cousins of your E1D. First an E2D and just two days ago an E1OM, with a lovely unusually dark and grainy sitka top. That E2 though, both looks and sounds like milk chocolate, warm and honest.
What a great playing and you make this guitar sing !!! Subscribed within a min of listening. Question - which one would be your choice between E1D or Martin d10e or Yamaha LL16 ??
Really appreciate it! It’s hard to say, because I haven’t tried the other guitars. But I can totally stand by the Eastman. It’s sooo good!
Lovely playing......
Thank you Jonothan
Awesome. What song is this?
Chris, quick question. I bought an ED1 after hearing your playing. Wondering about a string change. Find the B & E strings a bit thin and reedy. Might be 11s, I don't know. What would you recommend for strings? Many thanks for any help at all.
That’s sweet Joe! I still experiment with different strings to find some that suits it well. It’s a very bright sounding guitar, I think. I’ve tried the stock strings which I believe were Elixirs. I have tried Martin Retros and the MA540T’s, and they sound ok, but a little too bright to my taste. Next I’ll try some bronze strings, with no phosphor - just to test if it will mellow it out a bit. But the guitar is very young sounding, so it could potentially be an attribute of the guitar. I’ll give you a heads up when I tried some bronze strings. Oh, and I only use 12s.
@@ChrisEffort Many thanks Chris. Would be great to hear how the bronze works if you have a chance. Waiting for the Retro 12s to arrive here.
This, or a yamaha fg830? You make me wanna start playing guitar man, amazing
Oh you absolutely should start playing guitar. It’s so rewarding. I would pick the Eastman any day
Hi! Awesome playing😮🤩, what mic do you use?
Thanks bud! It was a shotgun mic - a Rode NT4 I believe. Nothing super special
Hello! What about playability of these guitars? Is the neck profile confortable, easy to play? I have small hands, and usually i play on a Taylor guitar. Tks
Sounds really great!
Thank you Roger
Beautiful. Do you have tabs for this by chance? What's the tuning?
Looking for the answer my self, drop D could double dropped D, I'm just starting work this tune out .
Nice playing! What tuning did you use?
That Sapele/Spruce sound is the best I have ever heard sweeter than mahog. The martin road series has several with this wood combination but I am not sure they sound better than this e1d. they sound brash by comparison but maybe what I am hearing is the #13 strings martin puts on the d10e.IDK I live in an area where the guitar shop has become nothing more that a repair shop with strings and things.
Beautiful. May I ask what were the strings you used in the video?
Thank you Jonathan
I’m using Martin MA540 Treated 12’s here. I have the Martin Retro strings on right now. They sound really good too, and cost only half.
@@ChrisEffort I finally got this guitar and it is amazing! Do you think the strings you changed on it sound better than the originals?
@@LoneWolf-cv6pl Congrats Wolf! It really is. I’m using the light gauge Martin Treated strings. They are called MA540T.
That’s beautiful, Dude. What tuning are you in?
awesome sound man!
Thank you Davi. It’s a great guitar!
Sounds like you got a keeper.
Thanks Ray! It could very much end up being that. For the money it’s the best acoustic I have ever tried.
I was unsure of my recent purchase, which is coming tomorrow until I re-seen your video. My purchase is gonna be well welcomed. It'll do me good and proper until I get another 'proper' or should I say properly overpriced guitar like a gibson j200 or another d35, the one that got away.
Thank you for taking me away with your playing man cheers from NE UK.
I’m so glad to hear my video was able to offer you some reassurance. And thank you for your kind words. It’s a killer guitar. But oh boy so I know about the one that got away, but at the end of the day guitars are just things, and there will always be another one to drop your jaw, that’s my experience.
@@ChrisEffort for me it was a 2011 d35 sold it cheap at £1325 because I needed money to buy carpets and the chap was apparently short on money, funny thing is the same chap is tryna resel it at a pricey sum of £2200. I hope I do get another that blows me away. Ps don't stop doing what your doing man your playing is special
What song is this?? It's incredible and I wanna listen to it more
It's an original tune, and thanks man really appreciate it!
@@ChrisEffort it's unbelievably beautiful - do you have a Spotify or anything where I can hear it recorded just audio?
Hold da k.... hvor lød det fedt, virkeligt smukt og flydende, må lure den teknik af - TAK !
Tusind tak Leif! Det er virkelig pænt af dig at skrive det.
beauty
Wow that sounds incredible. What tuning is the guitar in please. Thanks
Thank you my good man. I experiment with different tunings, and if I remember correctly - the tuning is an open D except the high E string remains an E.
@@ChrisEffort Great tune and sound. I sat down with my guitar as I watched your vid and I am almost always tuned down a half step, anyways I put the capo on and shazam I was there.
Nice tune buddy, guitar sounds great aswell, don’t have the best trained ear, is that standard tuning?
Thank you Josh. Appreciate it. The tuning is DADF#AE if I remember correctly.
Great, thanks Chris! Im going to add this to my practice routine, I’ll do my best not to butcher it too bad aha. keep these great videos coming!
와우~
연주가 멋져요
This is so great - does anyone know how that guitar is tuned?
DADF#AE
Sounds great. No doubt because of the playing, but what microphone was used to record it?
Thank you Cian
I believe it’s just a Røde NTG shotgun mic, processed with stock plugins in premiere pro.
@@ChrisEffort wow sounds incredible for a shotgun mic! I figured it was some boutique $4000 mic specifically made for acoustic guitars lol. Thanks for the reply and the consistently great videos
just......damn.
I've listened to this at least a dozen times today.
I appreciate it Curt, thank you!
👏 👏 👏 👏
Does anyone know what tuning this is?
