It’s hilarious to me that someone bought that puzzle, opened up the box, saw the picture and noped the eff out. That’s EXACTLY what I would have done 😂
Your technique of taking one piece out and comparing it to the rows of pieces was brilliant! We bought one of these at an antique mall a few months ago, it too was unopened, and the pieces all appear to be pink. Like, all of them. So we’re definitely going to try this method whenever we’re brave enough to put it together.
Great channel! So much fun! I enjoy your delivery plus all the information you provide on the puzzles and their manufacturers. I will definitely recommend to other puzzle lovers.
Your method of doing the all white was section was great! I'll have to keep that in mind for the next puzzle I have that has a solid color section. So glad I found your channel, your very entertaining, and the content is great
Just discovered your channel and immediately subscribed. Good job, man :) I'm searching a lot thrift shops for puzzles lately, but never found anything special or mysterious yet. This kind of mystery box would be amazing to find one day :)
I'm so glad the RUclips algorithm put this video in front of me! Subscribed right away. 😊 I love doing puzzles without knowing the image. I have my husband bring me just the pieces of a puzzle in my collection, but he sometimes buys them for me in secret, so I can't even be sure it's something I've seen before. My favorite one I did this way was Evening on the Town by Big Ben Luxe. If you look it up, you'll see all the swirly bits that were maddening. I didn't know what the car was until I'd done all of that section except about three pieces. Super fun and so gratifying! I am actually working on a Lantern Press puzzle right now. Bigfoot in Van Gogh's Starry Night. Same puzzle pieces as this one -- all the same shape. It's very slow going, but your method of holding one piece and scanning it against the others is one I haven't seen before and will definitely try. I hope you continue sharing videos. 😁 Really enjoying your channel so far.
I definitely want to do more mystery puzzling like this. Did your Lantern Press puzzle come in a box like mine, or did it have a picture? I am so curious!!
@@puzzlephile It came in a standard sort of box with the image on the front and also included a poster. I've shopped some of their other puzzles and like a lot of the images, but honestly I'm not sure I'll try another one because of the frustrating piece shapes. I'm also a little disappointed that there's quite a bit of glare on the pieces, especially since the box specifically claims there's not any.
Ecru used to have a series of "mystery" puzzles. They didn't have the image on the website or on the outside of the box, but they had a sticker sheet with the image, puzzle name, etc, which came upside down at the bottom of the box so you could label your box after you did the puzzle. (Downside, they were quite expensive even for wooden puzzles. But the one I did that way I really liked.)
I am scared of puzzles like that where all the pieces are the same shape! I was glad to see that there is some variation in size of the notches on the pieces, so you were able to find the right pieces. I have a puzzle from the thrift store of repeated images of jellyfish where all the pieces are the same shape. I am not sure I will ever do it because I need to be able to use the shape of the piece to put the puzzle together.
OK, you need a little handheld whisk broom for the puzzle dust. I fear for your pieces hitting the floor with that big broom. I also employ the strategy of removing a piece from the puzzle and going along the rows of sorted ones to find a match. I was just about to give my pro tip of putting a coin down so you can remember where you got the piece from, when you pulled out a washer. Great minds and all that. To speed it up, I put the rows of pieces on a tray of some sort so you can rotate the whole thing. Then you can check the left side for example, rotate the tray 180 degrees and check the new left side. It saves time over checking the top, and then the bottom as you were doing.
Great video! I'm glad you liked to do it without the image, because I LOVE to do puzzles like that and it was also fun to watch. 🙂 And thanks for the tip of taking one piece out, I had completely forgotten about it!
The World Trade Center was once in that location/view. Added an interesting but somber impression on me that the towers were missing in that particular photo and it was shades of grey too. Very enjoyable video quality.
Thank you, I had been wondering if it was an old photo or just black and white - I’m not as familiar with the New York skyline. Must be a relatively recent photo
I got a pretty nice puzzle from Lantern Press a couple of years ago and it came in the same black box without a picture. We liked the image so much we ended up buying a poster of the image as well!
Quite recently I completed the 'Nightfall' 2000 puzzle by Educa which has an older piece cut back from 2006, almost identical to the mystery puzzle in the video. I sorted the piece shapes by their shared characteristics and worked similarly as you did (on A3 foam boards that I could rotate). It was approximately 300 pieces of dark brown. With glare as added effect. 😂
Ok here’s the thing with that puzzle. I’ve actually been intending to remove it from my intro. I hesitate to promote the company that sells it because they have repeatedly stolen artists’ works to make their puzzles, reproducing the images without license or attribution. I wasn’t aware of this when I created my intro, and I will probably replace the fox soon. (The fox itself doesn’t seem to be a stolen image, as far as I can tell.) The company is AimPuzzle - the quality of their puzzles is not terrible, but nothing special. Personally, I’d rather spend my money elsewhere, but of course everyone can make their own choices! Just wanted you to have all the info, which I’m sure is a lot more of an answer than you were expecting!!
They’re actually the drawers from a cardboard puzzle board made by Bits and Pieces. I got it from a thrift store, not sure how old it is and they only seem to be selling wooden ones now. The board is nothing special, honestly, but I LOVE the drawers for plating out pieces
What are the 4 black puzzles over your right shoulder? I see that 2 of them are Springbok. I can almost see them, but nope. I love older Springbok puzzles.
you're an awesome puzzler. I would maybe finish all the buildings but when I got to the all white part I would have said, thank you & bye bye. incredibly lazy & a total quitter with certain things! I have a puzzle that is a street map & the image is so tiny & mostly black & white. might have to send to you!! meg
I've gotten plenty of no box, no picture puzzles from the thrift store just for the fun of it, but 1000 is still too scary unless I can make sure the pieces are unique enough lol Also I think?? I've seen that brand in the thrift store before, the box wasn't sealed so I saw the picture and it was a field of purple flowers I think
It’s hilarious to me that someone bought that puzzle, opened up the box, saw the picture and noped the eff out. That’s EXACTLY what I would have done 😂
7:34 ...and the pieces are in a 1-to-1 ratio (they may be oriented in any of 4 directions).

Oh wow! Solid pink, or is there some kind of design?
@@puzzlephile We’d seen some kind of textures on the pieces, so we’re thinking bouquet or field of flowers
Yes great tip..thx!❤
Love finding unopened puzzles! You're right, you never know what you're getting in a taped thrifted box.
Great channel! So much fun! I enjoy your delivery plus all the information you provide on the puzzles and their manufacturers. I will definitely recommend to other puzzle lovers.
Thanks so much!!
You are brave...you are skilled...you are hilarious....thanks for letting us join in your mystery challenge!
Thank you for watching!!
@@puzzlephile of course 🧩 your fellow puzzler cantwaittopuzzle 🧩
You're funny. You're explanation of the possibilities of the black box puzzle made me laugh. 😄
Me, too. It was so relatable at the same time.
4:40 - It's no 'Starry Night"! :)
You are funny. Enjoying your videos...even in black and white!!
Patience is a virtue especially with those white pieces. Great build and no missing pieces.
I’m feeling very virtuous this week! 🤪
Looks great all together!
Just subscribed. Love your different vidiography than Karen kavett puzzles. Keep it up. ❤

Thanks! It got the job done, but I’m still hoping to find a method that’s more fun - even if it takes longer 😆
The washer idea is brilliant. I’ve done your method before but always lost my place as well!
It was so many hours of losing my place before I came up with that 😆😆

What a wonderful video! Greetings from Brazil!

I usually work without looking at the box, but this was my first time having NO IDEA what the picture is and I loved it!
Hey, i am totally new to your channel and i am in LOVE! you do a very good job editing
Thank you!!
Oh goodness, your puzzle by Lantern Press was so much harder than mine!! Looks cool as a final image though!
I bought that exact puzzle at goodwill store still unopened not sure when or if I’ll open it lol 😅

@@puzzlephile Your Welcome ! :)
I got a pretty nice puzzle from Lantern Press a couple of years ago and it came in the same black box without a picture. We liked the image so much we ended up buying a poster of the image as well!
Thanks for the info!
I thought it was going to be a vintage picture of the iron workers a top the Brooklyn Bridge ...wrong of course... good job on the all white section.
That would have been a much more fun image to puzzle!

Oof, I just looked it up. That looks brutal to do with no piece shape variation - good for you for sticking with it!
@@puzzlephile Thanks, you too!
